========== Requirements ========= [SHREQ]

This mod requires 'Dawnguard' and 'Dragonborn' DLCs. Hearthfire is NOT required.

========== Disclaimer =========== [SHDIS]

This mod is published for free on Mod Nexus and only Mod Nexus. Please do not redistribute elsewhere without my explicit permission. If you paid for this, you got ripped off.

Users are welcome (and encourgaed) to modify for their own personal use. If you have any questions about getting your preferred assets to work in 'SHACE', don't hestitate to ask!

========== Description ========== [SHDES]

This mod is for people like me whom sometimes find the perfect visual style for their Dovahkiin and want to maintain that heroic (or villainous) look throughout the entire game, without compromising on equipment statistics. To that end, 'SHACE' adds a unique set of weapons, armor, and mage-friendly clothing, all of which can be modified via standard crafting methods to keep pace with character leveling. New in Version 1.2: Craftable staves for mages!

Note that the archive contains ONLY vanilla Skyrim assets. I have no skill at modeling or texturing, so my intention for this mod is for users to swap out the packaged meshes for their favorite Nexus content. For example, if you want to use jojjo's popular "Frostmourne and Lich King's Armor" (Mod# 6348 on Nexus), just install his mod as usual, then rename and move his meshes to replace the ones in the 'SHACE' folder. No other ESP than this one is necessary. If there is anything you want to tweak in CK, all of my entries have the prefix "SHACE_" for easy reference.

======== How To Acquire ========= [SHHTA]

The intended way to find these items is to play the vanilla tutorial sequence. Whether you side with Hadvar or Ralof, you then enter Helgen Keep and can explore the ground floor to find the "Warden's Chest." This chest normally contains a few pieces of Imperial gear, which have been altered to the titular adventurer's confiscated equipment. (The key remains as usual.)

To save on encumberance for a Level 1 character, armor is classified as Light and weapons are One-handed. These can be modified to personal preference at the first forge you happen across. There is also a beginner-level enchanted staff and a set of clothing (body outfit, gloves, shoes, and a circlet) intended for mages, or this could simply serve as casual clothes for roleplayers. These items can be broken down and recrafted just like weapons and armor at the appropriate crafting stations. All items are temperable and enchantable.

If you're using ASLAL and begin the game in some other location, or you just don't want to go to Helgen at all, you can use console codes to spawn a chest with this same gear (sans the Helgen Keep key). If you are not familiar with CC, this process is simple:

Step 1. Open the console by typing: ~
Step 2. Type: help "adventurer's chest" (including quotes)
Step 3. Type: player.placeatme ######## (replace #s with the eight-digit code that Step 2 returned)

Note that a console-generated chest will likely spawn floating at some unusual angle, so you may want to use the MarkForDelete CC after claiming your gear. Alternatively, you can look up the codes for individual items (see Contents) and add each directly to your inventory with: player.additem ######## 1

If you're installing this mid-game, you can go back to Helgen to get these items at any time, or skip ahead to level-appropriate gear by spawning the "Adventurer's Cheat Chest" and rummaging around for whatever quality equipment you desire.

At any forge, your Hide-quality armor can be turned into Iron with a streamlined recipe. Likewise, one-handed weapons may be transformed into two-handed ones, to suit your playstyle. By default, the player can only have one kind of sword, axe, or hammer each. And since you're sacrificing the item you have in order to modify it, you must first unequip said item first.

When the appropriate perks are acquired, weapons and armor may be upgraded along the Light or Heavy smithing paths. Equipment stats have been rebalanced independently of vanilla values. In particular, there is now a difference between Light and Heavy weapons. Light weapons swing faster than vanilla, for higher DPS, while Heavy weapons are slower than vanilla, but deal boosted critical damage.

Specific changes are detailed in the optional "SHACE Documents" archive.

For the convenience of training different skills, armor can also be swapped from Light to Heavy, or Heavy to Light. All items can be downgraded at a smelter, at cost of materials and tempering improvements, so they can be re-enchanted to the player's liking. For the sake of parity, there is no Stalhrim-equivalent gear, Dragon Armor is Light Scale only, and Dragonbone weapons are classified as Light.

New in Version 1.2: An assortment of enchanted staves in each of the five magic schools are now available for the player to craft. By default, you will find an "Adventurer's Staff of Flames" in the "Warden's Chest," which can be upgraded at a forge into a stronger version of its type, or can be disenchanted in a smelter and made available to make a staff with an entirely different enchantment. The is completely indepent of the crafting system introduced in Dragonborn, so you don't have to go all the way to Solstheim to make a staff that suits your playstyle.

The unenchanted "Adventurer's Mage Staff" is very cheap to make, but as a matter of game balance, each type of enchantment will require an uncommon alchemical ingredient as a catalyst. e.g. Fire staves require Fire Salts, a staff of Familiar requires Ectoplasm, and so on. Availability of more powerful staves is linked to the player's Enchanting level, because even if you never manually enchant anything, you will likely be using looted soul gems to recharge your staff of choice.

Also, visibility of the recipes is linked to what you currently have in your inventory, so the forge menu doesn't become overwhelming. (V1.2 roughly doubles the number of craftable items in this mod.) You may want to periodically make a blank staff just to see what is available to you. There are even staves that utilize DLC spells or unused assets, just for a bit more variety. For complete details of all the new items, see "SHACE Mage Staves" in the Documents archive.

========== Inventory ============ [SHINV]

Since most of us are using Wrye Bash, there's no point listing the console codes for every item. However, here is the full contents of this mod so you can look them up individually via CC. Or if you use ConSkrybe, just search for "Adventurer's" and open the log file in your Skyrim Data folder for the compiled list of codes.

======= Install/Uninstall ======= [SHI&U]

May be installed or uninstalled automatically via ModOrganizer or Nexus ModManager.

To install manually, extract the contents of "SH Adventurer's Confiscated Equipment.RAR" to your Skyrim Data folder. When prompted, click "Yes" to add "SHACE" to the meshes folder.

To uninstall manually, delete "SH Adventurer's Confiscated Equipment.ESP" from your Skyrim Data folder, then go into \Meshes\ and delete the "SHACE" folder. That's all!

========= Compatibility ========= [SHCOM]

In theory, 'SHACE' should be compatible with everything. There are NO scripts. No leveled lists are edited. Item stats are balanced and tuned independent of base game values. No new material tags are introduced; it only utilizes tags from vanilla Skyrim and the two required DLCs.

Most mods that alter crafting categories (like CCOR) or Smithing perks (such as my favorite, SPERG) should be 100% compatible. And as previously detailed, 'SHACE' alters only one thing in the world of Skyrim, the contents of the Helgen Keep "Warden's Chest." No other changes are made.

Untested: Mods that allow NPCs to craft weapons for you; tempering should be compatible, but upgrading to a new material type may be unavailable. Mods that allow NPCs recharge enchanted items for you will keep your from leveling the Enchanting skill, which will keep you from being able to craft stronger staves.

======= Known Issues/Bugs ======= [SHBUG]

Not so much a "bug" as an "unfinished feature" in the proud Bethesda tradition:

Some Destruction staves added by this mod will actually level your Destruction skill, but not all will, nor will any staves from other magic schools. Other mods which enable staff leveling rely on scripts, but it seems Bethesda originally intended to include this option and then abandoned it mid-development.

I stumbled upon this while assigning tags in CK and I'm leaving it in for now, on the off-chance that some better modder gets an idea how to finish implementation without scripts.
