5/2/15 - Added a compatible ESP ptach file for Immersive Sounds that adelinadragonborn was kind enough to make. That mod added drop and take sounds for the soulgems, so use this version of the ESP if you are using that mod (main file still required).
UPDATE VERSION 2.0: The latest version takes all the improvements of version 1.1, but expands the mod to have separate effects for empty soulgems and filled soulgems. this requires an esp, so for people who don't want an extra esp in their game, I'm leaving the 1.1 version as well.
The empty soulgems have the original color-changing animation, but filled soulgems will now have a pulsing glow animation as well. They look almost like beating hearts entrapped in the soulgems. This effect is something that is very hard to show in a screenshot, so thankfully Supertin was kind enough to make a video to illustrate the effect. Go to the front description page to view the video.
It took a lot of work to come up with a empty/filled version that looked good in game, so I hope people are pleased with the result. Much thanks to Saerileth and Nazenn for all their help, and Supertin for making the video.
Worth noting as well, the esp is fully compatible with Acquisitive Soul Gems, Enchanting Awakened and all of the total game overhauls, the only thing you will notice is if you are using Requiem then soul gems won't be as expensive as they should be, but that is an easy fix in tes5edit if it bothers you
UPDATE 1.1: This is a minor update (not the empty/full version that people are waiting for, sorry).
In this version the soulgem fragments now have transparency, and vary slightly in color. The diffuse textures have been adjusted to make the edges of the soulgems more transparent. The soulgems now have their own unique cubemap texture, rather than sharing the Chitin_e cubemap like the default.
The color shifting animation now varies between the soulgems, so it's not so repetitive. Larger soulgems transition slower than smaller soulgems. Just some refinements that I planned on including later, but decided to go ahead and update them now.
RUSTIC SOULGEMS was a mod I had intended to release a while ago, but was never happy with it. Not the textures, but how the meshes operated. I wanted the soulgems to have transparency like real crystalline gems, but I couldn't figure that out myself. I asked Saerileth if she could employ the same refracting method that was used on her Gemling jewelry gemstones (a technique that madcat221 discovered), and she agreed to help. I was finally able to get the soulgems looking the way I intended them to be.
Skyrim doesn't handle transparency well, so the effect isn't perfect, but it's still much better than those dull opaque rocks that Bethesda tried to pass off as soulgems.
Feel free to post your comments and queries here. The user gallery is open, so add any screenshots you like. It's always nice to see how the textures (and meshes) look in different lighting situations.
I saw this comment on a Reddit thread from 3 years ago.
Rustic soul gems, got me trapped in the dreamland vision dungeon daedric quest and many other annoying dungeons because it broke all soulgems on pedestals/traps and made them uninteractible.
I don't recall having any such issues with this mod, and I've been using it for years. Whiskey Tango Foxtrot??
AMAZING AMAZING AMAZING. I hope i get those installed when i try to play Skyrim again after years. But this is a must have! Thanks for the effort and thanks for sharing!!
Because this wasn't explained very well on the files page, I will try to offer a better explanation: The sorted version isn't for "Item sorting mods." Regardless of what mods you have, what it's going to do is change the naming convention of your soul gems. If you prefer to keep the vanilla naming convention, get unsorted. If you want your soul gems named soul gem I, soul gem II, etc. for ease of sorting, get the sorted version (I noticed it doesn't rename every soul gem in the game. Some of the soul gems I found in Temple of Miirak still had the vanilla names.)
Acquisitive Soul gems is outdated and full of bugs. You should be using 'Mysticism - The Lost Art instead.
And no, this mod seems to be barely compatible with it. For some reason I still get the 'old' soul gems everywhere that's completely useless; even if I create a batched patch.
The sorted version is for item sorting mods, such as? I don't have any item sorting mods now, I think, but I might add one in the future. Will the sorted version not work with vanilla?
Btw, I use almost all of your mods. All of the Rustic series, the Peltapalooza and Rugnarok ones and some older ones such as the sabrecat retex. They're all mandatory for me.
Mods like Sky UI organize your inventory lists. If you aren't using such a mod, then just use the non-sorted version. If you later start using a sorting mod, then you can switch versions then.

This really helps, I use skyUi and unsure what version I must use ^^;

Thank you for your mods, Gamwich. As I've said before, they're mandatory for me. Stay well.
