It should be toggleable and take up a fixed amount of magicka if active. This would be the best solution.

@Saurcastic Exactly, all you gotta do is open up the console, type player.setav alterationpowermod 500 thats for 5 minutes I think, 10000 is for 10 minutes, I put mine to 20000 for 20 minutes just because thats enough time to go through a dungeon for me, it doesnt raise the manacost either, this command changes the time for all Alteration spells, even Dragonhide. And it doesnt disable Steam achievements, I tested it. It also works for Conjuration as well. Its basically the same console command player.setav conjurationpowermod. I think I put mine to 400000, for 4 hours. Just play around with it to get it to your liking, putting it to 0 changes it back to default.

its all well and good increasin the duration of these spells but can u mod them so they actualy work?

i have 210 health as a lvl 30 mage (most went into magicka) - 120 armor with stoneflesh - difficulty on master
guy with two-handed wepon charges me and i get 1 shotted.

210 hp as mage - 63 armor wearing elven armor
same guy, same wepon but it took him 3 swings of his wepon to kill me....

Many aren't aware but armor has a hidden armor rating to it, just for using armor. If you are wearing a light or heavy torso armor you gain +40 bonus hidden armor rating, and 20 for every other piece. This adds up to 100 extra armor rating which is significant. So factoring in that hidden armor rating your elven armor actually gives you a total of 163 armor rating in comparison to the 120 mage spell. Now I don't know why it took three hits for you to die, I suspect the testing wasn't very thorough but I know that the armor spells do function for me as I do take less damage with them up. However they are a bit lacking even with the max level spell and max level perk as shown below.

Formula to calculate damage reduction : (visible armor rating + hidden armor rating) * 0.12 = Approximate % damage reduction.

It is outlined more thoroughly here: http://www.uesp.net/wiki/Skyrim:Armor

To calculate damage reduction you add visible armor rating and hidden armor rating, then multiple by 0.12. The cap is 80%, meaning 567 armor rating + 100 hidden armor rating for using armor * 0.12 is 80.04. Ebonyflesh with 3/3 mage armor is 300 armor rating or 36% damage reduction. As an aside, yes crazy armor stackers that does mean your 2100 armor rating from your super enchanting / alchemy / smithing stacked armor is pointless from a defense point of view.

There is the dragonhide master level that gives you 80% physical damage reduction for 30 seconds though. Now you can see this 80% damage reduction was not a random choice, it makes a mage have the exact same damage reduction as a capped armor user. The glaring flaw of this is that it does not last enough time. A mod that would increase the duration of dragonhide would be a very good addition. That or reduce that stupidly long cast time, it's really excessive for a buff spell.

If tested for you with pulling off my armor and getting hitted by bandits and there's a noticeable difference with and without the spell, as it should.

Maybe the time with onehit he makes a powerattack and with 3 hits not? Powerattacks from enemies with twohanded weapons often are very hard.

can't you use player.setav alterationpowermod command to change the duration of the spells? I believe setting it to a 100 doubles the duration, 200 triples it, etc. This keeps the mana cost the same though, although you can change that w/ the player.setav alterationmod command

    I've added Ironflesh.

All armorspells in one file is possible but on lower levels you could not cast them because of mana costs and on higher levels there's no more need for the lower spells.
