Not So Fast - Main Quest 1.4

by CDCooley
2016-08-01

for
The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim

*********************************************************************

Introduces pauses in the otherwise hectic pace of the main quest
and alters a few other plot points along the way. The actual time
delays and whether the Season Unending negotiations are skipped
can be configured with MCM or the console. In the order they are
encountered:

* Breezehome is available for purchase immediately after giving
Farengar the tablet from Bleak Falls Barrow and Ireleth does
immediately not appear to introduce the first dragon sighting.

* Six days after giving Farengar the tablet the journal entry
"I wonder if Farengar has made any progress on his Dragon
research." will appear. Ireleth's scene about the first dragon
sighting will start the next time the player visits Farengar.

* The Horn of Jurgen Windcaller can be successfully retrieved
and returned to the Greybeards without interference from
Delphine.

* Nine days after returning the Horn to the Greybeards and being
formally recognized as dragonborn a courier will deliver a
message from Delphine. "Dragonborn -- I need to speak to you.
Urgently. -- Delphine of the Sleeping Giant Inn in Riverwood"

* Some of the "cloak and dagger" dialogue is stripped from the
Delphine introduction, but she still will want to see the
Dragonborn in action for herself.

* The silly link to the civil war quest (which triggers when
you don't have an interest in the civil war as a way to
force you into it) can now be disabled. Balgruuf will still
think it's crazy to trap a dragon, but since the entire
process takes only a few minutes and presents no real
opportunity for either side in the civil war to stage an
attack this pointless and tedious activity can be disabled.

* Jarl Balgruuf can now reward you with potions instead of
armor just before the first dragon battle. Requiem users
will get the Requiem potions and by default mage characters
(who have a higher Alteration skill than either of the armor
skills) will also get potions. There's a new MCM entry for
changing the default reward if you aren't using Requiem but
would either prefer to always get potions or never get potions.

These particular changes were chosen because it required the least
amount of dialogue and quest editing.

Version 1.1 adds WilliamImm's better quest objectives (with permission).

Version 1.2 changes the default delay times and leaves the Season
Unending quest enabled by default. The quest update notice to visit
Farengar will also not trigger during combat any more.

Version 1.3 adds support for Requiem's potion reward from Balgruuf.

Version 1.4 restores Delphine's dragon burial mound map which was
accidentally left disabled.

KNOWN AND POTENTIAL MOD CONFLICTS

Book Covers Skyrim should be loaded before this or the note from
Delphine will have the wrong text.

Any mod that spawns dragons before the main quest can bypass part
of the main quest if you absorb a dragon soul between the time you
give the dragonstone to Farengar and the Western Watch Tower dragon
attack. (You'll be missing the Western Watch Tower attack.)

Skyrim Unbound bypasses the first few parts of the main quest. You
may still be able to use these mods together, but load Skyrim Unbound
after this one if you want to try it.

Quests MQ103, MQ104, MQ105, and MQ106 and their scripts are edited
by this mod. Changes from the Unofficial Skyrim Patch have been
included, but other mods changing those quests will probably conflict.

CONFIGURATION OPTIONS

These three options are available from the MCM if you are using SkyUI
but for those without SkyUI here are the console alternatives. You
can also use the console to set a delay greater than 30 days.

setpqv MQ104 NSFMQ_DragonDelay a_number_-1_or_higher

The default is: setpqv MQ104 NSFMQ_DragonDelay 6

Changes the number of days delayed before the first dragon sighting.
Changing the value after delivering the tablet but before the scene
with Ireleth starts will reset the delay time starting from that
moment. Using -1 will cause pause the quest and preventing the
Ireleth scene from starting until you change it to something else
later. Using 0 will let the Dragon sighting scene with Ireleth
start as soon as you are in sight of Farengar. (Setting the value to
0 before giving the tablet to Farengar means the sequence will run
just like in the original game.)

setpqv MQ106 NSFMQ_DelphineNoteDelay a_number_-1_or_higher

The default is: setpqv MQ106 NSFMQ_DelphineNoteDelay 9

Changes the number of days delayed before the note from Delphine is
delivered. Like the previous delay value, if you change this after
returning the Horn but before the courier starts hunting you then
the new delay value will start with the command. Using -1 pauses
the quest until you change it to something else and using 0 will
give Delphine's note to the courier immediately. Even if you set
this to 0 before getting the Horn you will still retrieve the Horn
instead of finding the note from Delphine and the courier won't
try to deliver the note until after you return the Horn to the
Greybeards.

set NSFMQ_NoNegotiate to 1

The default is: set NSFMQ_NoNegotiate to 0

If set to 1, the Season Unending negotiation quest will be skipped.
If set to 0, restores the original game decision about that quest.

setpqv MQ104 NSFMQ_PotionReward 0_1_or_2

The default is: setpqv MQ104 NSFMQ_PotionReward 1

Controls the reward given by Jarl Balgruuf. A value of 2 will
always give the player a set of potions (like the standard Requiem
reward). A value of 0 will always give the player an item of armor
just like the original game. And the new mod default of 1 will
give the player potions if the Alteration skill is higher than
either of the armor skills so that mage characters don't end up
getting a useless and heavy suit of armor just before heading down
to fight a dragon.
