I really like the way you modeled it, but the textures aren't that great. Perhaps you can find someone who has more experience with it?
As for Astrid's hood; Look up the armor mod ''hunting grounds'' This mod has a nice actual hood mesh like Astrid's. It might be worth asking the author to use that mesh and replace the current cloak-ish cape. :3
It's not the context of what you wrote, it's how you wrote it. Regardless, I'm dabbling in Alpha Channel usage. After reading your message last night I started messing around with the cape texture alpha channel, my efforts didn't work. I need to take another look at the model and set it up with a Unwrap UV modifier. This was the first model I've ever done that's ever worked in a game before. So yes, I'm quite new at it. I will improve on the textures when I can improve my skill at UV modifiers.
There's better modders out here that can do a way better job than I can. I'm not quite at that expert level. I still rely on someone else to skin, weight paint and import the model into the game.
As for the cape itself, I know it's not the greatest looking thing in Skyrim. In the last few weeks of playing I've noticed a vanilla fur armor that has the same shape and better texture of what I was trying to accomplish. The major difference in my model is that I made the entire thing from scratch. Nothing was ported from other models.
I'm currently working on a new set of ebony armors inspired by the TF4 AoE Dinobots. Every new armor I make makes me learn new ways of doing things. So please be patient with me. I can make textures that are fantastic, but not when my UV wrapping skill is still at level suck.
Nice job.... Hiccup has the coolest looking armor.... I would love to see that in Skyrim. Have you ever thought about the Leaf Man armor from the movie Epic?
I would like to do Hiccup's armor, but I haven't figured out the best way to go about modelling it. It looks pretty layered. I'm just not sure how I want to start it.
I've only seen Epic once, I wasn't really impressed with that movie.
Right now I want to finish tomolyons Mines of Moria mod I've been working on (with his permission). I've been hammering away at that for months, so that should be my next release.
Looks great in game. Looking forward to updates. Maybe add frayed edges to the cloth on the armor, like the sleeves got cut off. Sewed seems would look nice also.
First, thank you for downloading this mod. Firehawk7171 did an excellent work bringing this model to Skyrim, as you can see. This was also a learning process for both of us, so things can improve in the future as we plan to develop our modding skills.
Please have in mind that, due to the skirt detail, texture stretching is unavoidable and this is more noticeable if you use non-vanilla animations. When skinning, it was a decision between mesh break or texture stretching due to the complexity of the ornaments.

I'm going to give you a few tips.
