Personally i love this mod, the blades look freaking wonderful, BUT i do have ONE thing ide like to say, the marking on the blade could have a bit more depth to them, they just seem kinda like stickers on it....other than that these swords are freaking awesome!
Ha! You have a Sword collection too, That's awesome. I couldn't agree more about your recent comment about. " A person who depends on a sword for their lives would never let dirt and rust build up on their blade. " Throughout all my life I've been a collector or swords and I take real care of mine. I always believed that the way a person treats their things is how they treat others.
Damascus Steel ? so their is such thing. . . . Do you mind telling me some more about it? Very interesting indeed. Keep up the good work and I hope you don't make any radical changes to this epic weapon.
Damascus steel has a mottled look to it. It was called by several different names in Europe; the most common was Spanish Steel. Because of the unique way its ingredients were prepared it had a tensile strength (tested on museum specimens) equal if not greater than 220 rolled steel!
This recipe was lost sometime during the dark ages. It is also interesting to note that the surviving pieces show that the steel was folded like the Japanese Katana.
Read "History of the Sword" for more information you can order it from "Museum Quality Replicas" online. Or just sign up for their catalogue as it always has little history bits!
http://www.minnesotafarriers.com/Damascus.htm This is the correct way to make Damascus steel. It is the same process as back then, just more sophisticated. What made Damascus Steel strong back then, was not the amount of raw materials added, it was the forging process and smelting. The recipe is still around but it is hard to find online or someone with the knowledge of it.
No the online stuff is REINVENTED not original. What we have available now is from metallurgists' destroying original samples in order to REPLICAT the original process, which cannot be done with modern methods. This would be akin to building "Stonehenge" with a backhoe. You can do it but it is not the same and never would be the same. If you want updated information from an expert read "The History of the Sword" or search "National Geographic's" it will point you in the right direction where this history is concerned.
Wow this looks amazing. If only my game wasn't near it's limit max with mods >.< Trying to really savor which mods I will fill up the leftover spots with, tempted to use this one.
The sword was originally for Oblivion and was (at the time) pushing the games engine. Now I'm learning more about Skyrim's engine and updating as I go. Next I think I will try a two-handed version and some more gem types for all.
It's as close as I could get to the original. http://steamcommunity.com/profiles/76561198011548282/screenshots/ This is an in game shot with original textures.
What I noticed of the Hi-Res textures is that it looks a little 2Dish. Can I recommend the Textures from the Cyrodilic Steel Longsword from this mod? I think it would be more suiting if you are able to incorporate the textures from this mod to fit this sword (textures from your work are still a bit too shiny, would like to have a more worn look due to the actual forging of the sword will make it look a little worn. And I believe the textures from Lore Weapon Expansion would fit perfectly). http://www.nexusmods.com/skyrim/mods/44179/?
The sword is supposed to be new and being a fan of "Oakshott's books" and renaissance fairs (and real weapon smiths) and having 15 swords in my own collection, I can assure you that a steel blade is shiny when it's forged.
The textures of the other mod look like the weapons have been misused and neglected.
A person who depends on a sword for their lives would never let dirt and rust build up on their blade.
Iron, copper, and bronze swords are pitted because they are molded but they are still shiny. The only material that is spotted is Damascus steel and the sword isn't made of that.
History note:
The recipe for Damascus steel was lost and all weapons made today are not from the original recipe.
I may make some ruined textures later when it gets tied into a quest and there is a reason for it to start out rusty.
Well remember Cyrodiil lost a good chunk of it's history between the events of Oblivion and Skyrim so if there was a quest that added the sword where it is a little worn would be fantastic. Because the actual forging of those specific weapons may have been lost over time etc. That would be a good quest to earn it than to just forge it etc. And as a recommendation for the quest (no actual quest needs to be made, it can be integrated into any quest-line where you can put it in a dungeon etc). Just giving my opinion on ideas.
For whatever reason, Creation Kit didn't pack all of my files in the latest steam version. Ok; I just re-uploaded the mods files. If you have problems open the BSA in "Fallout Mod Manager" and check to see if these files are there: RingGem_n.dds RingGemRed.dds RingGemBlue.dds RingGemGreen.dds RingGemJocelyn.dds RingGemJocelyn_n.dds steellongsword.dds steellongsword_g.dds steellongsword_n.dds 1stpersonJocelynSword.nif JocelynSword.nif If any of these files are missing please post a comment. If you want to change the gem you will need to unpack the BSA. Or wait until I have the time to make them craft able. To change the ring gem simply re-name "RingGemRed", "Blue" or "Green" to RingGemJocelyn.dds. Then re-name "RingGem_n" to RingGemJocelyn_n.dds. The default is the Jocelyn gem.
I really like the this sword, but I am kinda confused on the proper DL and install process with so many downloadable files. Perhaps you would please help with some instruction. I'd like your standard build (high reflective blade; looks mystical) in High-Res and for it to be enchantable (if possible; saw a file for that). Some of the files said "replacer", so do I DL a main file first, then a replacer and the "enchantable" patch and have them all active in my list? And which files for what I am looking for? Tracking for now. Still, thanks for uploading such a beautiful sword!
What's up with the ".bsl", ".ckm" files with the ".bsa" and ".esp"?
The ".bsl" and ".ckm" are for the steam version download they contain all of the mods personal info. If you downloaded from steam and then downloaded an update from Nexus your files would be changed the next time you logged onto steam because steam checks these files for version data.
So I include them so steam doesn't change your BSA version and you still have an option to subscribe on steam.
So you will find them only in the steam version of the bsa.
I've also added a loose file version for people who do not mind having a bunch of files added to their data folder. It also makes it easier if you want to change anything.

You can find the original mod screen shots on this page alongside some other creations of mine.
I think the actual reason for all of the criticism is that they didn't think of making it themselves.

A good rule would be to merge alike mods together, like weapons, and so on. But you should first check with Tes5edit to see if they conflict.
The only problem is if one of your merged mods is updated you have to re-build your merged mod.
