Resolving conflicts with other mods that modify Serana
Step 1: Load this mod early in your load order so that other mods you have can edit Serana's appearance.
If another mod overwrites this one she'll know the basic Raise Dead and Drain spells but everything else should work.
Step 2 (optional): Remove the extra spells by editing the other mod.
The easiest way to remove the spells is with TES5Edit. Just select the two conflicting mods and when everything finishes loading, expand the list on the left side, select the DLC1Serana entry, scroll the right side view until you find the Actor Effects section (which is red to show the conflict). Drag the (empty) Actor Effects block from the SeranaLearnsSouldCharinSpells.esp column into the column for the conflicting mod (as shown in the third image in the images section) and TES5Edit should update the spells and spell counts (to match the view shown in the bottom half of the image). Then simply exit TES5Edit and allow it to save the changes.
Serana did not learn Soul Cairn spells, she keeps using Lightning Bolt and Ice Spike, she doesn't rise the dead though which is good.
I did as the picture illustrated in tes5edit but still no success even after a day of waiting and manual click on update spells. Is there something I forgot to do? Do I have to learn the spells myself in order for her to learn them too or do I have to visit the Soul Cairn/give her the spell books?
Edit: I don't know if it helps but I've installed this mod after I cured Serana and I didn't go visit the Soul Cairn after installing.
It's best to start a new game when using this mod. Otherwise, after meeting with her, you must use console commands to remove/add spells in her inventory after encountering her. Even if you edited her records using TES5Edit.
She will learn the spells when you learn them from reading the books from the Soul Cairn. If you cannot go there anymore, just add the spell books to your inventory and read them to learn.
This is one of those easy-to-port-to-SSE-yourself mods. Just open the ESP file in the SSE Creation Kit, then save it. That will update the Serana and Quest records for the SSE version of the game. The scripts and language translation files don't need any changes.
100% needs sse I used this in oldrim and now upgraded to sse. This mod is easily one of the most important ones for ppl who like serana it's so f*#@ing annoying her bullshit with the raise zombie that won't go away.
I downloaded this ages ago it seems to me. Nah.. I wasn't being ignorant by not endorsing it before now. It's just that it's my first run of Oldrim in well over a year and I didn't start Dawnguard until I hit level 62. (I kept getting sidetracked.. you know how it goes). Anyway.. mod is great as expected and is "now" endorsed 10/10. Thank you for sharing. I'm off to Darkfall now. Laters :-)
Not working for me with Serana Renewal mod, tried both before and after in the load order, without success. It breaks Serana Renewal, making she appear with vanilla looks.
Or doing the reverse, dragging her body skin and head parts/textures onto this mod's records, will do the same thing. I started using Serana Renewal just now. I'm using https://www.nexusmods.com/skyrim/mods/63261 to remove Serana's hood (the simple version), rather than Serana Renewal's method.
If you're just using a texture of mesh mod to change her appearance, you're fine. But if you're using a mod that makes edits to her actual face morphs, then yes you're going to see a conflict. This is easily fixed in TES5Edit, though; I intend to do just that for the BVFE version of her.
Yes, if you have this mod set to load early then open this and your other Serana changing mod in TES5Edit you can easily change her spells in the other mod to match this one.
Seranaholic definitely does not work well with this mod. I tried them both and she has the vanilla look with green and yellow eyes, but the mod menu works for the magic control.
Okay, here appearance appears to be preserved by installing this one before the other one, but how does she actually learn the soul cairn spells? We have already been there, so do we have to go back now and do something special?
Her script resets her spells after about 24 hours in-game. You can also force her to updates her spells from the MCM or using a console command. Check the ReadMe for details.
So this does not really require a trip to the Soul Cairn, as I had assumed? That implies that she could acquire these spells even before that quest, correct?
No, she only learns the Soul Cairn spells when you do. OK, so technically that means you could give the spells to yourself using the console and within a day she should start using them.
The original Serana resets her spells every day because as you and she gain levels she learns new spells (and forgets other less powerful versions). I've just added more options to the process here.
Cool. Finally am at the point where she learned the conjure spells. And I can see that the area spells can be toggled on/off in the MCM. This mod is a gem.
It's a shame this was working (on a previous play through) and now Serana will only use drain and ice spike spells and I can get her the use the Soul Cairn spells. All I use is this and Amazing Follower Tweaks with this mod first. At least she's still not raising the dead...
