I've been playing and making mods for years and in a recent play through with ELFX I really got put off by how the bright candle light kills the looks in dungeons. I was going to make a mod that used the torch light and found you had done it already! I wish I had found this mod years ago. Might I suggest an option using the magic effect for fireball? It may be a bit less intrusive.
Edit. I tried the fireball magic effect and it looks really bad. I found another mod that reworks the Candlelight spell into a few color options and they described using the fire effect as "angry."
How about a floating Soulgem or if not at least gemstones or orbs. There's already an enchanted orb but a glowing one that functions as a light would be nice as well. Or a skull, a dim glowing skull for necromancers. An animated glowing moth hovering around? Would that be possible?
What I do for this fix myself is use a mod called "Smartcast". My floating torch spell is automatically cast (without the need to switch to the spell) every time I need it to be cast. I also use this mod for other awesome spells like cloak and healing spells (trust me, combat in Skyrim is so awesome with Smartcast). I hope this helps and good hunting, my friend.
this is the best alternative to Wearable Lanterns,i am waiting the 1.1 version for the floating fireball ( the floating torch is not immersive but is working great) very good job endorse
