Please let me know if you find any problems or have any suggestions.

    Thanks.

    ==================
If using on an existing game, do the following to gain access to the primary spell.

hit the tilde key and go into the command screen, type "help Rumination" and look for the spell entry for Rumination of the Divines and use "player.addspell <num from above>" then cast the spell.

Hello! The paladin abilities didn't show up for my existing character until I cast a non-Restoration spell. I got a message about losing the paladin abilities, and a short time later they all appeared again.

      Cool mod.

That's a problem of loading into an existing game.

It should have ironed itself out after casting "Rumination of the Divines. But I imagine there is probably a sizeable penalty due to past thefts, quests and murders etc..

Is picking a lock to get through a fortress during a quest considered sinful? My goody-goody paladin got dinged for doing that, I think. Shouldn't this only apply when a theft is actually committed?

Nope, picked locks don't accrue penalties.

In that case, I must have picked up something I wasn't supposed to, so I'll get back to you after I try a few more experiments to see what happened.

Okay, I think I figured out my problem. It was trapping souls. I am confused, though: if trapping souls is sinful, then why is the sacrificial item required for the Plea spell a *filled* black soul gem? How is one supposed to obtain a *filled* soul gem of any kind without trapping souls? That doesn't make sense to me. Is there something I am missing?

liberate it from some evil individual, such as "enyur" or whatever his name is, the mage at winterhold who handles black market sales usually has one for sale.

Then the sacrificing isn't destroying the soul, it's freeing it from the gem so it may move onto whichever god they belong with in the grand scheme.

So it's okay to purchase filled black soul gems and then sacrifice them? I was wondering how one would get them to begin with, but that explains it.

I imagine that enchanting with soul gems will offend the gods. Will disenchanting items do so as well? My character did a bunch of that before I installed this mod.

disenchanting wont do any harm. Just enchanting and charging weapon etc...

Just in case you can’t get the “Divine Transference” to remain stable, I have a suggestion which might still be philosophically in keeping with the Paladin morality you are implementing with this mod. How about the idea that a Paladin cannot trap or use *human* souls but is allowed to use non-human ones? In other words, a Paladin might be allowed to trap souls only in Petty, Common, and Greater Soul Gems, but not Grand or Black Soul Gems (which are the only 2 that can trap human and humanoid, or “Grand”, souls)? Any souls found in Petty, Common, and Greater Soul Gems can thus be used without divine penalty for either enchanting or recharging.

That would still represent an appropriate sacrifice for a Paladin, in that he only has access to the lower-power souls of non-humans, including monsters and wild animals (although you might want to distinguish “natural” from “unnatural” creatures, like giant spiders and suchlike). Might that make some sense and be easier to implement? Skyrim would not be Skyrim without absorbing and, thus, destroying Dragon Souls, so I think that this alternative proposal would be lore-friendly.

I just realized that the suggestion that I made above might also address one of the Enchanting perks, which automatically recharges your weapons with the souls of animals, but not humans. Under my logic, that would remain permissible. It also means that there has to be a way to implement this distinction within the game as it currently exists.

The following is obligatory, I couldn't stop myself, had to do it:

    What's a paladin?

According to Dungeons & Dragons Lore (not TES Lore) a "paladin is a holy knight, crusading in the name of good and order, and is a divine spellcaster". I believe that this conception is what is being implemented in Skyrim by this mod.

Here's more from another D& Site:

"Paladins are indomitable warriors who’ve pledged their prowess to something greater than themselves. Paladins smite enemies with divine authority, bolster the courage of nearby companions, and radiate as if a beacon of inextinguishable hope. Paladins are transfigured on the field of battle, exemplars of divine ethos in action.

To you is given the responsibility to unflinchingly stand before an enemy’s charge, smiting them with your sword while protecting your allies with your sacrifice. Where others waver and wonder, your motivation is pure and simple, and your devotion is your strength. Where others scheme and steal, you take the high road, refusing to allow the illusions of temptation to dissuade you from your obligations.

Take up your blessed sword and sanctified shield brave warrior, and charge forward to hallowed glory!"

Still a work in progress sadly.

For medical reasons I am unable to sit down and focus on it to finish it the way I should.

There are a few bugs still, such as the enchanting transfer being lost when the client is closed and reloaded. Mostly minor inconvenience issues I believe.

What do you mean by "when the client is closed and reloaded"? What is "the client"?

P.S.: Never mind: I just found out what you meant! When I shut off my game and restarted it later, all the enchantments I had transferred to my favorite armor were gone. If enchanting armor the normal way is forbidden, not having that power be stable makes this mod next to unplayable because going up against a dragon without elemental resistances is virtually suicidal. Please try to fix that feature because this mod is otherwise a really great idea.

I think I hit a bug. It is not a big one, but an annoyring one. I have downloaded the mod, but havnt played it yet as I want to rebuild my Paladin char tomarrow. So currently I am playing my Ice Mage and each time she casts her spells I get a message on my screen about it effecting my charecters paladin ability (or something like that). I have not cast the Rumination spell with her...

    Thanks!

Yeah, that is caused by the script tied to the Paladin quest object being used with the mod. It's harmless and shouldn't affect any normal game play except for erroneous messages.

Hope you can fix it. Overall I like the mod! Instead of rebuilding my thalmor paladin, I created a succubus paladin named Grace. Who can remember who she is based off of?

How does one intially get the power "Rumination of the Divines"? I just installed this mod on an existing Paladin-like character.

I alternate between several different characters: some of them could be considered Paladins and others not. If I install this mod, will it in any way affect the non-Paladin characters? Or are these powers only specifically invoked when somehow declaring oneself to be a Paladin and not otherwise?

All the real initialization is one when you cast Rumination of the Divines. Just don't cast that spell on any non-paladin and it should be fine.

Using at least some picture as a preview for your mod will get your mod more attention.
It's not about showing off, but more to show that this mod is no placeholder or a test file.

Tracked since a week or so - will check back
Good luck with developement and further ideas.

May I recommend some mods to go with this?

This mod allows for passive weapons enchantment:http://www.nexusmods.com/skyrim/mods/42356/?
This mod has new Paladin type armor enchantments: http://www.nexusmods.com/skyrim/mods/47988/?

I use the passive recharge one myself. I works nicely.

I am going to look into transferring enchantments from one item to another via spell/prayer so the Paladin has some ability to beyond dumb luck to get the enchantments they want.

Suggest remove the black soul gem requirement, that can be considered an evil act. Unless there is an explanation that he is freeing the mortal soul saving it from the soul cairn (sp?). If possible, I would limit or penalize the general use and creation of black soul gems. Read the in game book on black and white souls for more info. Tracking for now, but this will be a great excuse to rebuild my paladin thalmor

To keep with lore and immersion, the use of a black soul gem isn't actually "using" a soul gem, it is freeing the trapped soul inside saving it from oblivion. Since the penalty for trapping a soul is greater then the bonus for freeing it you won't have a situation where its beneficial to fill a black gem then use it for the plea.

I agree with you guys about keeping a lore centric basis for all the Paladin's abilities and spells.

The paladin has a major problem because of the way things are enchanted in elderschrolls. Enchantments require a soulgem. If the paladin pays some one to do the enchants he/she is responsible for that soul use. Worse than that, now the paladin has involved a second party in the sin. Any enchanted armor suffers from the curse. So, unless a devines acceptable way of enchanting is devised, normal soul enchanted armor/weapons are unacceptable. The curse would include any deadra armor or weapons enchanted or not.
I would suggest a new set of paladin blessings. Shrines of the devines that you could visit that would give a dialog to choose blessings for armor and weapons. Maybe add an offering table where normal(evil soul enchanted) armor/weapons could be sacrificed and the soul freed,in exchange for holy blessings on armor and weapons.
I really would like to see Holy Paladins in Skyrim, smiting undead, vampires and doing the good deeds.

Paladin: A paragon of chivalry; a heroic champion; Chivalry: The medieval system, principles, and customs of knighthood. The qualities idealized by knighthood, such as bravery, courtesy, honor, and gallantry toward women. b. A manifestation of any of these qualities.

I can agree with that, but it involves way too much work to build an entire new enchantment system.

So in its place we work under the assumption that using an already existing item will not offend the Gods, since the Paladin had no direct part in its creation. After all, the rest of the beings are only exerting their free will as allowed by the Gods when they create such items. It's just the Paladin that is banned from personally causing the damage to a soul.

There is a mod out there (don't remember what it is) that allows for items to recharge over time. The is also a custom spell that allows you to spend mana for charge. Let me see if I can find them.
