I've never heard such immersively dynamic groots in my life. 10/10

Yes, I second that statement. Not to bash anyone's work, but if you get permission (or just friggin do it, because an honorable mention should be enough), it would be more in keeping with the inspiration material. They had a matron at giant size, and I believe a patron spawned there too... Behind Anise's cabin. Go take a poke at it, just don't let it catch you.

whoa a good GROOT, nice job ! I don't get excited about too many mods but this has real possibilities. You could stick with the character type as in the movie, and just give some Druidic type spells perhaps. I kinda like that idea but I also like maybe merging his character with that of an Ent as in LOTR. Since Skyrim is not on earth you have lots of flexibility with where you go with that but the Spriggans could be a distant relation, think homo habilis vs. homo sapiens or they could just be a male version of Spriggans and have a very different approach to things. The Spriggans are very territorial and very protective, GROOT could be more of a roamer and willing to fertilize any Spriggan hehehe or perhaps their DNA permits them to change sex at different points in their life or in response to environmental changes/pressures. I think the speech thing will maybe determine where you go with that since GROOT never says much but his last line, WE are GROOT! Could lead down a path where he is protective of his "family" which could be very large. He shields them, heals them without really hurting anyone else. If that causes damage to him he regenerates even coming back from death. Could be a very valuable friend as well as a very pro-living things character.

Have to admit, had a bit of trouble reading all that block text But glad you appreciate it, lol.

I would like to improve this mod, but I don't have the knowledge to do much with him at the moment. And I've got 2 bits of coursework and an exam for university in next 3 weeks, so won't have time to be learning But I agree with the basic ideas. I need to look closer at his abilities when I get a chance - as I stated before, this was only a joke mod originally anyway, so didn't go too in-depth.

The 'We are Groot' protection idea's interesting, but I think I'd use that as a scene in a quest for him rather than a general ability comment. Not sure it's something he should be saying consistently. The regeneration thing is something I've considered since start, but not sure how I'd go about that. I'd need some sort of potted plant model, and I'd have to figure out how to script a change when he 'dies' so that instead of being destroyed he changes into a potted plant temporarily.

Since I've been asked a number of times, and I now have 5 weeks holidays to be bored for, I'm going to give improving this mod a go. However, as I've stated, I'm a newbie to modding, and really have no experience with this, so as it stands, I doubt I'll be able to do much. Googling for guides only gets me so far. I should know - I've tried.

So... below is a list of things I'd like to add to the mod. If anyone can suggest any decent guides or offer help in actually getting any of it done, it would be much appreciated, and help towards improving this mod Also, any suggestions on how to improve the mod would be helpful.

Possible improvements (as of 13th December) :
New Model (Could do with someone who's capable of making a proper model for it, but need most importantly guide on how to add custom models to Groot)
Quests for recruiting (Don't know much about quest modding, so need guide to those)
Possible expanded speech (I can do the basics, but could do with guide to understanding deeper elements of it)
Quests for Groot (Sort of mixes the above. Would need knowledge on quests and expanded speech to achieve this, as well as sensible rewards)

Will also post this on main page for Groot.

I just watched The Guardians of the Galaxy last night with my roommates and all they said was how Groot would be the best companion mod ever. I'm glad to see that you have at least started the process of adding Groot as follower.
I downloaded this mod just so i can endorse it, that way it gets more attention and maybe somebody will want to help you turn Groot into a fully-fleshed follower.
Great job so far, can"t wait to see an improved version. From whoever is willing to try.

I love this mod! If you ever do put the time and effort in to learn more about modding and make this into a fully fleshed out mod, I could definitely get behind that. As it is, though, he's pretty good as just a simple follower.

However, he does tend to get in the way sometimes... and I can't seem to get him to wait without asking him to do something for me and then pointing to a spot on the ground for him to wait. And when I do that I can't get him to follow me again. I can't get him to leave and go home either. Not sure if this is a problem with the mod itself or just compatibility issues that I'm having...

I don't know about the following bug... I've not had that myself, and no one else has mentioned it. Like you said, may just be a compatability issue, but afraid I can't help you there.

Why don't you ask the creator of this mod: http://www.nexusmods.com/skyrim/mods/30020/?
To see if you can use his model instead of a spriggan?

Or even just the male model added by the Skyrim Immersive Creatures mod!

As I've said before, there's really no point in doing any of this at present. I did this mod for a laugh more than anything else, and to practise using the creation kit.

Since I haven't got any proper feedback on the mod at present, I'm not really going to bother going out of my way to update it. It seems like a wasted effort if more people aren't interested in me doing so. If I do get enough interest, then I'll see about improving the model, and also possibly add a translation of sorts to his speech - and more, if I can

It isn't a wasted effort because firstly, you'll get to exercise your abilities with the creation kit, and when it's done, people will like it and get talking about it and it'll be a respectable mod in the eyes of the modding community. If you don't do it then who else will? There's two outcomes, the first is that you don't make it and it's not in existence and the second is that somebody else makes it.

Honestly? I'm not bothered whether it's a respectable mod. I don't have the time to work on it with university work, and I only made the original for a laugh, mainly for my brothers.
I do get your point, but unless there's a great desire for it, I've got better things to do than grinding my way through guides learning how to do advanced modding.

I would absolutely love to see this flesh out into a full mod, with his own mesh and texture. I wish I could do it, but like you i've only done minor stuff with the creation kit, you're more versed in it's use than I am at this point.

Hehe Yeah, it'd be fun to have as a full mod... I've got a lot of ideas that would be fun to incorporate, including other Guardians characters - after all, the Marvel characters seem to end up in other universes all the time - but it's totally beyond my ability.
I'd just die laughing to see Rocket Raccoon in Skyrim though

I think the Skyrim Immersive Creatures and SkyMoMod mod have an actual male Spriggan mesh and texture which looks like a "tree man". Maybe you could ask the authors if you could use that.

Edit: Never mind, saw the comments below.

It's been uploaded less than half an hour at this point

Seriously though, that sort of thing is well beyond my ability, since I'm a complete novice to modding. As I've stated in the description, the advanced stuff is well beyond my abilities.

If I get enough interest in this mod, and can find someone willing to help, it's certainly something I'd love to do. But at this point in time, it just isn't possible, sad to say.

I think Immersive Creatures has a male spriggan model, maybe you could ask to use it? (or find out who made it and ask them)

Honestly, can't see the point in seeking out another texture at this point. The one in use works well enough until I can either learn texturing (which is unlikely, but you never know ) or can find help, so I can create a proper Groot texture for him.
