Hey bro I tried this mod but when I turn it into an esp or esm it wont load Skyrim it just exits out and when I disable your mod skyrim loads tried uninstalling Skyrim and installing and dosnt work It is not any other mod do you know whats going on? Cheers
I'm not sure what you mean when you say you 'turned into' an esp or an esm, the file you download is an esp, that gets dropped into your Data folder. However as you only have (so far) 5 posts here I'll (perhaps wrongly) assume that you're new to modding Skyrim and point out that this mod is for 32bit Original Skyrim and LE Skyrim, The 64 bit version of the mod can be found on the SSE/AE pages
I've just loaded Skyrim up (over a year since I had it installed) and downloaded the mod fresh, opened the rar and dropped the contents (an esp) into the data folder and it's fine. I can only assume that you have another mod that is conflicting,
Hey can you please update this mod? I have installed it but when I try to open up the game, the bethesda logo just shows up and then it boots me out. Any tips on how to get it working?
Skyrim isn't Middle Earth. Magic works different in all different places. In skyrim it takes study, and Nords ultimately shun it, but that doesn't mean nobody would ever use it. Cultists would use it. Mages would use it. College goers would use it. And obviously the dragonborn could use it.
I like the idea that a random idiot bandit wouldn't use it - they would clearly not take time to study it. But nobody? I hope you make return to this and make it configurable in the MCM menu.
another stupid Bethesda lore inconsistency; Nords are inspired by the Vikings(readanes/Normen) wich had a profound love for anything magic, yet the Nords shun it
I am with Naelnor. Nords hate magic. I don't like the idea that anyone can cast spells. Magic should be for specialized characters like wizards, necromancers, etc., but not for everybody, and less for rude minds like bandits. Magic depends on intelligence. SO, this mod is a must have for me. Thanks for sharing.
I love the basic idea of this mod, mostly because i feel exactly like Naelnor about the use of magic (should be long prepared rituals, not some trivial used fireballs etc.) Sure in the Elder Scrolls series magic is used in a trivial manner where almost everyone can use it, but to me this makes magic less "magical" if you know what i mean.
This man gets the point. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mU2Elrz34gs&index=24&list=PLSzZrjViou0Dy7BLudNEUpfQz-iUIUr8N Just one quote from that video: "Magic in modern games is mediocre, fair, sterile predictable, and sadly generic. Exactly all the qualities that magic should never possess."
Instead of having fireball spells (or any other destruction spell for example), they could have just given those NPCs (or characters) a laser gun or flame thrower instead. It would be the same except those weapons would need ammo, which the magic user doesn (which makes it even more unfair imho) IDK, but to me this always felt hugely unfair towards everyone else and also most importanty completley out of place in a medieval styled world. Personally, i would rather see a more refined combat system (different stances for ex.) than magic.
But that doesn't mean i would prefer fantasy games with no magic at all. A ritual based magic system would be much more mystical and immersive imo. It would make magic something special and not as trivial as it is in most games.
Btw. any chance to get this mod for Skyrim Special Edition?
Dunno if anyone will read this comment chain, but it's not inconsistent, Bethesda's take or even this mod necessarily. The Nords DID love magic; characters bring up the fact outright that, in Ysgramor's day, they would use spells quite skillfully right alongside their weapons. The Atmorans had quite a few magical arts when they moved to Skyrim and lived alongside the Falmer. It's only after the whole "hey, what if We Elves killed the humans" thing happened that they started to understandably be more wary of it. If you've ever been in a place where doing/wearing/liking something makes people side-eye & shun you by association, it's a lot like that. Everything about elves revolves around magic in some way. You can see similar real-world aversions play out all the time to varying levels, and the last thing a Nord would want is to be associated with the group of people that seems to be trying to wipe Nords out.
Doesn't matter that their main warriors of the day also used spells, public opinion has a way of distilling things down to sweeping associations. Kind of like how the human slaves in Cyrodiil got the help of the Bosmer, but gradually came to group their Bosmeri friends with their original Ayleid oppressors. It's possible Skyrim's influence of disliking elves played a part, who knows? King Borgas (pantheon-outlawing jerk) DID want to continue Skyrim's tradition of hating elves in that era after all, deciding to try and rally people to go and beat up Valenwood because elves. Obviously, since this guy was both Skyrim's king AND the last of their beloved Ysgramor's line, his death at the hands of the Bosmer from the (very magical & very elvish) Wild Hunt just made Skyrim yell "I KNEW IT!" and hate both even more. You can imagine Nords easily coming to link magic with the elves in general since it's such a signature elf thing, their distaste for the enemy's favored general avocation coloring their opinion of the thing's use in its entirety over time.
After that, the Oblivion Crisis happened, which was something inherently magical down to its core that messed up the whole of Tamriel. By the end of all that, the Nords were understandably biased against magic, and the whole unfortunate business with the first hold founded by Ysgramor, Winterhold, allegedly falling into the sea due to mages just put the last nail in the coffin. Mages are now tolerated at best. Practitioners of Restoration don't get the same bad rap nearly as often due to it being linked with piety/faith in the Divines, something very important to Skyrim's people, plus the healing is nice. The attempted genocide and slavery with their neighbors is also why Nords seem to hate elves and are wary of outsiders in general. (Interestingly, the Mer that initially attacked them were themselves enslaved by ANOTHER group of Mer after the Nords beat them.)
And then of course, there are players that don't care about the main quest or lore itself, as the game is so old now, many players have modded it in the direction that they wish to enjoy the game, and if that excludes magic then this mod can go on their list, there are plenty of Big bouncing breasted women mods for players to use and they are also not compulsory. Playing games is about enjoyment we get for the time spent... if you don't enjoy it either don't do it or change it so you like it.
Thanks Naenlor, this is a fixture on my modlist, and has been for some time.
Please check out stories, books, and the like, not all Elven-kind are wizard-kind. Take for example: Elf Quest (Authors Wendy and husband Penni, if I spelled them right).

Cool! I've been looking for something like this in a while. Currently playing as an OP witch, so whenever encountering an opponent which is even more OP than my character ( there are lots of them ) didn't go much lore-friendly for me. Of course, one of the several mage weakning mods would work just fine, but I like this one better.

I know it's years later but here it is for those wondering:

I think this mod need Dragonborn, Dawnguard, and Hearthfires.
