OK people. Thanks to Keleigh3000 we now have a compatibility patches for Book Covers Skyrim/Lost Library and SkyRe. I would like to draw huge attention to the fact that he did this without any request, completely off his own back. For his work I am deeply thankful. Please give him the kudos he deserves.
I know almost nobody is downloading this any more, or even looks at these comments, but here goes:
I AM NOW WORKING ON THIS MOD AGAIN!
Well, I'm actually developing it into a more feature packed mod which I expect to release as a standalone mod when it's completed. The main goal of the new mod is COMPATIBILITY. To that end I've already re-written the Eloquent Reader code from scratch. It no longer requires applying scripts directly to books; in fact no Vanilla records are touched at all! That's right; absolutely ZERO incompatibility. It'll work with anything. Mods that change Vanilla books? No problem. Mod added books? It'll work.
It's just. that. good.
OK, OK. So what's the downside to this I hear you ask. Well, the new version will require SKSE. Simply put without SKSE I just wouldn't have the functions required to make this work without the need for compatibility patches.
There's no ETA on a full release for the new version, and I'm not going to spoil it's other features just yet. However if you're intrigued feel free to download the sneak preview that includes The Eloquent Reader's features from the Files section here.
I hope you like what I've presented here, and I can't wait until I can release the full package.
I really enjoy, and appreciate this mod and can't for the life of me understand why it hasn't had more endorsements and downloads, except that maybe STEP is directing people to and outdated, unsupported mod that does something similar. And that's even after they just updated STEP. I can sort of understand their problem though. The STEP program has SO many mod associated with it, it would be nearly impossable to keep tabs on all of them.
I'm installing the STEP Extended set up... plus a few extra mods I just don't think I could live without. I've liked this one before and endorsed it, so I'm going to try your demo. I could use the original with patches, but it would be nice not having to worry about them. I'll try to let you know how it goes. I'm also looking forward to what else you may include in this new mod.
Good luck and thank's for what you've already done.
so hopefully this will work with requiem...been trying that mod out and i like it. will be trying this mod a diff profile though until im sure it works with requiem or gets a patch for it.
Glad to hear you're working on it! I tried the preview and it works pretty well, only thing is that it lets me just infinitely read the same book over and over. Not sure if that's because of some kind of conflict (which would be weird), or if it's because I installed it mid-playthrough. Or maybe it's just some freak thing and skyrim is just laughing at me again.
It's because the system is set up to count the number of books you've read and compare that value to the Skyrim's own books read count. If you start a new game that means that you'll only get the skill boost when you read a new book as both counts start at zero. If you install mi-game you'll have a Skyrim books read count of, well, lots and my mod will still be starting at zero. Just keep reading one book and eventually the two will level out and you'll start only getting the boost when a new book is read.
After using the regular version, definitely going to try out the preview version. I'm using the superb Signposts mod, and this would be perfect for the "gossip" board i.e. learning about the townsfolk helps me speak to them better. Keep up the great work! Looking forward to the full release of the new version!
Yes and no. I haven't touched Skyrim modding in over a year (I did a few quick dirty mods for Fallout 4). However with the Special Edition release I've been kicked back into action. The first job will to be port my Diverse Character Creation mod to get a handle on scripting again, then I'll be working on NPO and this. I'm not going to promise any ETA's or anything like that; realistically it's going to be a while as I'm also designing a custom computer case in my spare time (it's more complicated than you'd think).
True Scholar works pretty well, BTW, and it's replaced RLS which i've used for years. Works with all books, which the predecessor did not, so BCSLL and my other book mods don't feel like a waste. The only minor bug I've come across is the mod changing the type of some reading materials, like Notes categorized as books. But it works great, regardless.
Hi Guys, I have spoken to the mod author regarding some questions, and will post them here if any of you have the same questions.
[In the Words of Author, Daiyus] " Q. Is True Scholar an exact alternative to Eloquent Reader? A. Yes, the current Demo version replicates Eloquent Reader functionality but is completely compatible with everything. No patches required. Ever.
Q. Is [the Demo] stable? A. Yes, the Demo is completely stable.
Q. Why is it a Demo? Does that mean it's incomplete? A. I originally planned to add much more functionality to the mod to improve multiple elements of book based learning and scholarship whilst being 100% compatible with anything. There were plans to create Spell Books that would allow you to learn/forget spells so you could manage your spell inventory just like you can with weapons/items/armour, plus some other less well though out concepts like limiting skill books to require a certain base knowledge (Skill Level) in that subject. The Demo was just a demonstration of the "100% compatible" concept using Eloquent Reader goals. Ultimately I dropped the project for many reasons; technical difficulties, real world commitments, depression, etc. It is not complete to the original vision however Eloquent Reader functionality is all there. The True Scholar Demo does everything the latest version of Eloquent Reader does, just better (see above).
Are there any extra requirements for True Scholar? You mentioned that spellbooks would require Edwarr's Spell Tome Books, but the demo only states that it doesn't need compatibility patches.
Great mod! I was wondering if you could make a compatibility patch for Legacy of the Dragonborn?

Legacy of the Dragonborn fully integrates Book Covers Skyrim AND Book Covers Skyrim - Lost Library into the mod. I really don't know what all goes on behind the scenes when creating a patch like this, maybe it's as easy as downloading "The Eloquent Reader-BCS-BCSLL-CP.esp", taking it to TES5Edit, removing the masters, and adding LegacyoftheDragonborn.esp as a master. I'm sure it's not that easy, but wanted to throw the idea out there.
