Combat Evolved made Brodual's Top Mods of 2014 List!

The Change Log can be found at the bottom of the Description page.

Please Read the entire Description page before commenting.

The Description page has been updated with answers to common questions (added info to the various sections). I deleted most of my stickies since players weren't reading them anyway. All common and frequently asked questions are answered by reading the full Description page.

Very simple upgrade instructions - just replaced the esp file in your Skyrim Data folder with the new one!

    Perkus Maximus (Perma)

Perkus Maximus (Perma) is fully compatible with Combat Evolved! I did a detailed examination of both mods and compared them in TES5Edit. There are three minor differences in the Thief module (stealth settings) and one minor difference in the Warrior module (bash reach). Combat Evolved can be placed before or after Perkus Maximus (Perma) in the load order. The four minor differences don't come close to needing a compatibility patch.

If you want slightly harder stealth place Combat Evolved after Perma. If you want slightly easier stealth place Combat Evolved before Perma.

    Wildcat

Wildcat is very similar to Combat Evolved. Both mods edit the same combat styles and most of the same gameplay settings. They can be placed in the same load order, however the last combat mod will overwrite most of the settings of the other. For this reason it is recommended to only run one or the other. If you do run them both then place the combat mod that you want to take precedence after the other one in your load order (last mod always wins if there are conflicts). There are several features in both mods that do not overlap such as poison and spells in Combat Evolved and timed blocking in Wildcat.

    Notes

Players having difficulty with magic doing too much damage should read and follow this guide: Magic Resistance Primer.

There is a lot of bad advice floating around the Internet, Nexus, and Steam lately about optimizing your game (especially INI advice). Read my How to Have the Best Modded Skyrim Experience guide for the no-nonsense truth.

NOTICE: A lot of players are posting issues with the mod making their game too difficult. This is usually caused by setting your difficult setting too high or combining several difficulty mods together such as Perma, ASIS, Revenge of the Enemies, etc.

Players should adjust their difficulty setting to Adept or lower when starting a new game and then adjust it one level higher at around levels 25-30. This mod makes the game suicide on Master or Legendary difficulty. There is no longer a need to crank up the difficulty setting in order to achieve challenging gameplay with Combat Evolved installed.

Why Combat Evolved will NEVER crash your game:

    1. Script free - many mods have poorly written scripts that can cause CTDs
    2. Animation free - animation mods are famous for causing CTDs
    3. Mesh and Texture free
    4. No Cell or Worldspace edits
    5. Doesn't touch weather, lightning, or imagespace settings or modifiers
    6. Doesn't touch or edit the Leveled Lists
    7. No NPC records are modified
    8. 100% compatible with USLEEP
    9. Nothing in this mod persists or gets saved in your save games
    10. Can be installed and removed mid-game as long as you don't reorder the other mods in your load order
    11. Heavily tested for over two years

Good mod but level 6 frostbite spiders still do 200 damage per melee hit. This mod could use some tuning to make it better.

This mod could use some tuning on how hard the enemies hit on higher levels so that we don't have to resort to the restoration loop glitch or something that equally makes us as equally unkillable as the enemies. Setting magical effects to ignore magical resistances makes magical resistances redundant, too. But on the whole nice mod, actually some decent AI for the time this mod was made.

Was pretty good but have to get rid of it since most of the fights boils down to me constantly moving backwards while attacking.

NPC will constantly try to get up in my face, piling on top of me, and I'm sick of it. Though I still like the idea, maybe I'll just make a 'toned' down version.

In a perfect world, difficulty should be tied in to the Combat Styles.

Interesting mod. Adds variety to the combat system.
I have two requests to the author: make a version of the mod in which the enemies will not have eyes on their back , and they, standing at a distance of 50 meters, will not evade the shot, and also will not move with a drawn bow or without it, as if they have a turbine in their ass.
I hope the online translator translated everything correctly.
    Good luck with your creativity.

Not as bad as some of the comments suggest, but does cause some enemies to have freakishly high damage (mainly mages and anything with poison attacks) and makes non archery stealth useless.

Uninstalling seems to have worked fine, maybe try changing the difficulty (I turned mine up to compensate for this being missing).

Hello, in my game EVERYONE, and I repeat, EVERYONE seems to resist any type of Paralysis spell, did someone have the same issue?

If you use the magic module, there are some changes you can remove in tesedit that I think might prevent paralysis:

      1. Save a copy of "Combat Evolved- Magic and Spells.esp"
      2. Open Combat Evolved- Magic and Spells in tesedit
      2. Go into 'Magic Effect" category
      3. Delete all of the records in there (right click on the entry and select remove)
      4. Test in you game, if it makes no changes I would recommend copying back the original esp

*However, I have tested using paralysis in my game without removing those records and it works fine. You might be having a conflict with some other mod

you know what is annoying me about this mod?
it isn't that you turned all the enemies into agent smith dodging aimbots.
it isn't that you made every mage have nearly unlimited mana and spam steadfast ward to block all ranged attacks while somehow also spamming their own spells and instahealing when they get low.

    it's the stealth nerf.

you call it a "minor stealh tweak"...
you basically almost completely invalidated stealth.
every enemy sees me, even when i'm "hidden" , even when i'm "invisible", from a potion.
i'll be invisible, muffled and hiding and the eye icon will be completely closed and say "hidden" and the enemies will still say "what was that?" and then walk right over to where i am hiding and attack me.
or i'll be sneaking and there will be enemies a mile away and suddenly the eye opens, they all see me and start sniping me at extreme range and i'll rapid fire shots at them and see them being yanked back and forth out of the way of every shot as if pulled by a string.

but yeah, it's mainly the stealth thing that is pissing me off. stealth is impossible now. except for pickpocketing sleeping people.

and i saw that you said i should lower the difficulty, you said that the mod is made so that i can have a more challenging game without having to turn the difficulty up...but i can barely survive 2 hits from anything even on adept difficulty. and turning it up to expert...which you recommended i do at level 30, just makes the game impossible. i'm level 45 and everything 1 shots me and this is with 80 skill smithied armor and my attacks barely scratch the enemies. i'm able to struggle through by hiding behind lydia and using magic spells with dual cast impact to stagger them.

i feel like an ass, having to lower the difficulty to adept. I used to play it on master. and i never had to hide behind a follower before. so yeah, you definitely made it harder. but again, it's mainly the stealth nerf i don't like.
i guess i can find a mod that fixes the stealth thing. . .

he didnt make every mage have unlimited magika, its a problem with the original game that is even more evident when you use mods. The mages in skyrim have very large magika pools, have reg robes plus reduction in costs for their spell. Also they dont get reduced magika reg when in combat ( the player does) you have tweak those settings, otherwise the only way is to "cheese" for example if you keep them stagger but that won`t work against more than two.
As for the stealth its been changed, its based on the noise you make, light and movement. Im playing with this mod and I had some problems with stealth too but I invested perk points in the tree, casted muffle , used invisibility and fortify sneak potions.

Can I use the Guard attack hostiles.esp as standalone or do I need the main mod as well?

    Loving this mod!
I am using this mod along with Ultimate Combat, Revenge of the Enemies 1.95 fix, and Legendary difficulty, makes fights extremely hard. And the best thing is it feels light on the system, like nothing was installed (a little exaggeration here, but you get the idea). As a counter, I use EFF and brought an army of Bijin babes to help. Which was impossible if using script heavy mods.

    Thanks.
