You'd think they use a boat like this one to run the ferries on the Sea of Ghosts (Solitude, Dawnstar & Windhelm) and a row boat for this route. Go figure...
You could use a smaller boat that are easier to place and place a npc, the boats owner, on the shore nearby and get the transport done by talking to said person. This way you would not need to bother with navmeshing at all for instance. For the ride back, a similar system could be used in Riften suggestively with another boat owner. Placement of some barrels and other cargo on the boat will give a reason why this boat ride exist, the player are just another chance to earn some gold.
I was just about to say this. Just like the guy you see in Dawnstar and the Windhelm docks, just a few more of these guys along the rivers of skyrim would help a lot.
thank you for the update, oh and if you add some idle markers, like sitting on a box, or hammering they should move to those spots shortly after spawning, and not go "swimming"
I found the dock and the swimming dockworkers, but no boat. Does this mod conflict with Become Jarl of Ivarstead? I ask because the wooden palisade around the city goes right up near your dock and may have "swallowed" something.
Okay, I finally figured this out. It is only the update which conflicts with Become Jarl of Ivarstead, because of the new docks. However, if I install just the main file, I get weird things happening to Riften Docks (screenshot posted), even though I have no other mods installed that modify that area in any way. The screenshot is a view taken when exiting Riften through the door by the meadery. The bridge to the Skooma warehouse is completely dislocated. Just thought I might let you know because the boat travel works and I would like to see this mod fixed, if you are up to doing it. Also, the current position of the boat in Ivarstead covers up a skeleton that you need to loot for a vanilla quest, so you might want to think about moving it further away from the bridge, towards Riften. Hope this helps!
It must be some kind of mod conflict on my end because when I remove your mod, the problem goes away. I have 250 other mods, so I can't really say which one it might be.
It is fully possible to have a mast that can easily be felled for travel under bridges. There you have your modern sail technique right there, no mystery at all. Difficult to pull of on larger boats thou.
I checked this route out for my Honeyside home mod as I'm thinking of using the rowboat to either travel to the mill at the end of the lake and on to Iverstead. Problem is without some work you can't even get a rowboat through due to fallen trees, low water levels and low bridges.
Wonderful idea! However, aren't there all kinds of waterfalls going *down* from Ivarstead to Riften that might pose a challenge to boat travel the other way?
Helpful tip: You can remove the mod's dependency to Dawnguard.esm using TES5edit (and also use the same utility to clean the mod). Could also add a small dock and navmesh it, but then to do so will have a bit of learning how to navmesh exteriors.
In addition, does your mod work alongside Expanded Towns and Cities? I'd like to take this mod for a spin but I'm away from home for a few days.
