Just tried this out with Skyrim SE. Just having it installed through NMM, and the game wont start. Unfortunately, There's no SE version.
Why are content creators so desperate to create another generic mostly naked follower of what they think is a dream girl, but not have robust pet follower content? sigh.
He's buggy, but there are work arounds and ive been using on SE for a couple years. I love him and going to change his skin so he's fluffy like Fluffworks (Fluffy Animals)
Tanback has a lovely design, and he seems to have an awesome personality too. But unfortunately, I cannot get him to follow. I either get the dialogue menu with all the follower options or just the opening dialogue for him. If this is fixed, I want to revisit Tanback, but I've tried everything. I use simple multiple followers if that helps.
I use SMF as well, so I hope I can help. I've noticed that he has a pretty long follow distance (so long that I thought he wasn't following me sometimes) and he lays down when he stops moving. So long as you get a message in the corner saying something about Tanback seeing you as a member of his pride you should be good. Hope this helps. If you don't get the message, try disabling him and re-enabling him once or twice and make sure to grab the note off his old master. I don't know if it affects his recruitment but it can't hurt.
I get only 2 options after locating Tanback, I can ask him what happened to his master, and tell him that I understand him. I've disabled mods, removed savegame bloat, and installed SKSE, to no avail. I've tried with and without other followers. I've setrelationshiprank <tanback id#> 3, player.setrelationshiprank <tanback id#> 3 (his id is 04002e3c in my game, don't know if that's universal). any help would be greatly appreciated.
I had a similar issue, only after I had sent him home. I disabled him and re-enabled him with the console, then dismissed all my other followers (i use a multiple follower mod) and voila. Went to talk to him again and got the magic message "Tanback sees you as a member of his pride." Then I could recruit all my followers back with no problem in just a minute or two.
Works very nicely as an animal follower/pet. I've experienced zero stability issues with him, and he certainly pulls his own weight in combat. I have discovered that if you add anything to his inventory that increases unarmed damage (Gloves of the Pugilist come to mind, plus any number of unarmed combat mod bits), his DPS goes way up. Might be helpful if you don't wanna mess with Tes5Edit or CK.
I'm testing this now, and I haven't "heard" Tanback say anything yet. Subtitles are on. My load order only includes the unofficial patches and SKSE for the test, and Tanback is last. I've picked him up successfully, but all he ever says to me is 'You're part of his pride.' I've fought several dragons and cleared out a bandit fort, but still silence. He growls during combat, but not otherwise, and no subtitles.
I read through the description and the posts. Am I missing something obvious?
I found out this morning that reloading the saved game after picking up Tanback solved the problem. He had two new dialog options that he didn't have before, 'I can understand you' and 'What happened to your master', and he started commenting on our surroundings.
I'm not sure why that fixed it, but if anybody else has the same problem, try saving and reloading.

I really love this mod! Good job! but i have a slight problem i dont know how to fix! he may stay with me for a while and follow me but i suddenly lose him and i find him back in the place where i first found him!! I don't dismiss him as i like his company but he wanders away from me..can i fix it somehow??
thats not the mod witch mod are you useing aft,eff,ufo? lets assume your useing eff for example i'd recommend uninstalling eff and clean your save meaning completely uninstall eff run skyrim wait ingame for 4 hours don't need to wait any longer then that (assumeing your useing eff) make sure that eff is gone from the game then save the game exit skyrim reinstall eff run skyrim again and it "should" solve that problem
Tanback makes a wonderful companion. I would like to see some different textures (like red or bluish purple to match Inigo?). Would definitely like to see a saddle bag implemented. Keep up the good work
