http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc753194.aspx is what I use for the same purpose, but this might come in handy for people who are not so tech savvy as to go poke around typing stuff in console.

Little secret: I actually call mklink from my code. I just automate the call and the other involved steps.

Hardlinks only work within a single drive, so they do not provide the benefit of space saving on the C: drive, which is the primary goal of this utility.

The shell extension does sym-links too, which I use drive to drive and network to drive, and vice-versa.

Good to have a tool that introduces people to this idea. I've created a lot of symbolic links on my daughter's SSD due to the fact she keeps installing things to program files

I was surprised when there weren't any utilities for doing this aimed at the gaming community, especially since so many games write saves to the C drive.

First thing first, I'm sorry if my post would seem demeaning to your work here. I understand the goal of your work but something much better comes to mind. This is something I've been using for years already (yes, I'm a working adult, thank you).

    - for Win7 / Win8 users
    http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/18629-user-folders-change-default-location.html

    - for Vista users (essentially the same procedure as above link)
    http://www.howtogeek.com/howto/windows-vista/moving-your-personal-data-folders-in-windows-vista-the-easy-way/

    - for WinXP users aka the old-fashioned ones
    http://thundercloud.net/information-avenue/my-documents/

The long-term benefits of following the tip(s) above does not just affect your Skyrim savegames but also other user-generated data (pictures, videos, documents, etc.). I, myself, do not move all folders just those that are most likely to accumulate a sizeable amount of disk space.

If one were to make some (very small) changes to my source, this utility would work on any folder.
