Update 10/27/14 - Version 1.2 added which retextures the lock to give it a more attractive Nordic design.
Update 4/18/14 - Improved detail added to the inner cylinder of the lock. Some enhancement of the normal map as well. Purely cosmetic changes (as per request). Gives the entire lock the same worn and detailed appearance.
I think the description says it, but to reiterate...... this mod is a simple lock texture replacer, to give the locks of Skyrim a worn and scratched appearance. By doing so, I'm giving you more visual reference points (without an immersion-breaking graduated ruler), to make it easier to find your prior start point after a lockpick breaks. This isn't needed on easy locks, but on expert and master locks, it's helpful to be able to more accurately pinpoint where you left off, so you don't waste a bunch of lockpicks...... and waste a bunch of time going over areas you already tired.
Anyway, I hope this mod is of use to people...... it has been for me.
If you look in the file preview, you can see everything that's in the file. I just downloaded the file, and I don't see those extra files you mentioned. Perhaps it was a decompression error.
I can confirm this problem. When installing this mod onto Skyrim SE the four *_n.dds files are named with a "._" prefix, and all have the same size of 4k. Is it because uncompressed normal maps won't work on SSE?
I just did a test - a "Manual Download" of the mod, and manual uncompressing of the .zip file. (tested twice) The contents do not match the "Preview File Contents" list - the four *_n.dds files have a "._" prefix. It looks to me like the "Preview File Contents" is out of date, and does not reflect the current mod archive contents.
But if you downloaded the file and it works for you, then maybe something on my PC is different, but I don't know what. I use Windows 7 and 7-zip.
Well, that may be the case, since I didn't see those extensions myself. When I get around to porting to SE I will revise the textures, so it will be a new upload.
The four files in question have the hidden attribute, so you'll need to change Windows Explorer options to check "Show hidden files, folders, and drives" to see these files.
IMHO You should always have the "Show Hidden Files" on in Windows. At least I do, it makes finding issues so much easier and really doesn't matter. Plus it makes modding way easier because you can rename any file you wish with any file extension provided.
It has saved me more times the last 20 years since I decided to run that option always on than I can tell you. Any idea when you might be porting more of your LE mods Gamwich?
This is exactly what I ever wanted in Skyrim. Easier lockpicking but not exactly cheating. I had to search your mod too long to endorse and comment it. But it had to be done. Thank you for doing AND uploading it! It's exactly those super-tiny things that can change a playtrough dramatically!
Yes, all straight texture mods should be compatible, as Bethesda didn't changed the compression formats. The only thing that won't work for sure in SSE is uncompressed normal maps. Any of the other regular formats, like DXT1 and DXT5 work fine in both games.
There aren't any new scratches after breaking a lockpick. The scratches on the lock simply give you more reference points to remember where you started from.
