Hi... I was super happy to find this mod. The snow everywhere looks SO GOOD now. Such a small thing, but really nice. Makes a difference in how I interact with the world.
I've done a lot of work around Windhelm, so I've always had a few glitches in the area, but I did start noticing more disappearing walls and stuff after installing this. Thankfully, no CTDs, and you've put out a patch for the biggest issue, the disappearing palace of Windhelm. Honestly, some rare disappearing walls might be worth it because the snow improves the look of everywhere else!
One question - just to be sure.. is the Windhelm Fix .esp a replacement for the standard .esp, or do I need to keep both installed?
I've found a strong incompatibility between this mod and Project Parallax Remastered. The use of both prompts the game engine to crash (CTD) once you are inside or outside Windhelm. The problem come from several meshes added by PPR. As PPR add a ton of meshes in Windhelm, i didn't want to test them all, thus i just kept the ones which are essentials for me (wall & floor). But if someone want to investigate further, here a samll list of meshes (probably not complete) causing the game engine to crash: - whpalace1 - whpalace2 - whpalace3 - whpalace4 - whpalace5 - whdocks1 - whdocks2
I'd say this list is about right... At least for my load order.(using a number of texture mods with Noble Skyrim HD taking priority, and the parallax patch for it from PPR.) Hiding the .nif's(meshes/architecture/windhelm) you mentioned for PPR's patch in MO fixes my CTD's in and around Windhelm. Doing that, I am able to use the snow shader fix to keep the palace and some walls from disappearing, and not CTD Going to leave a post on PPR's page about these files as well. I already knew the palace meshes were a problem from my own testing, but hadn't gotten around to hiding the dock files yet. So thanks for shortening my search to root out the culprits There's a lot of files in that folder lol
hmm interesting. i don't use ProjectP but i use Tamriel Reloaded, which has those nifs, with parallax. i get ctds around there. is the issue caused just my Project Parallax nifs, or any parallax nifs and this snow shader? could Tam Reloaded and snow shader be causing my ctds?
I have used BDS since it came out. But after I installet an enb some of the snow textures went disco shine fo no reason. This mods only issue for me is WH palace disappearing which you made a fix for. I haven't had any CTD anywhere in windhelm or other snowy areas so far. I do however wanna say that CTDs may as well be an incompatibility issue. Much more then the mod itself. I use JK's version of Windhelm and Dawnstar with no issues. Then again they don't add new meshes as far as I remember.
Yay! No more Dutch Boy surplus high-gloss enamel, or glazed frosting, or whatever it was! Now it looks a lot more like...snow! I knew there had to be a fix! Windhelm Palace did come and go, but the patch seems to have fixed that. Endorsed.
I'm also getting CTDs in Windhelm. Reading the comments, you mention " /meshes/landscape/snowmatshader.nif", but I just don't have this file. Your mod also does not come with it, the .7z file only contains a .ESP and the readme.
It is supposed to come bundled with your mod or the .ESP load it from the BSA? I'm just a little confused, any help will be welcome.
I tried the mod again, and am a bit puzzled about it when used with No Snow Under the Roof. It looks like it uses its own meshes, which kind of makes this mod useless in that combination. The snow around the stairs and porches is totally different :/
The snow shader makes the game look so much better, I am hoping that a solution can be found in the same way memory allocation issues have been solved by Sheson's Patch
I ran all around Windhelm and I don't get a CTD. Would be helpful to have more info to allow me to debug. How close are you to the texture memory limit on your graphics card? You can check with Skyrim Performance monitor. Are you using both Sheson's patch with SKSE 7 and ENBBoost?Do you have any big mods loaded?
Edit: Did you verify the /meshes/landscape/snowmatshader.nif shader file is there?
Edit2: Any broken scripts in your savefile? The following tool will show them marked with a #. http://www.nexusmods.com/skyrim/mods/52363/? Save game script cleaner
Jack I can verify that there is a CTD in windhelm outside palace of kings, in the grey quarter, and at front gate. I personally went through all my mods and this one was the one that was making me CTD every damn time. =/
I tried it with numerous new games and cleaned my save files with the script cleaner, and the file snowmatshader.nif is there. I think this mod isn't compatible perhaps with some lighting mods like RLO and CoT. I have 212 mods and I don't want to go through them all to find out the incompatibility, I just know that I prob. won't be using this mods.
It's kind of a pity though, it added some cool looking snow. But I think we have found the reason why Bethesda left this out of the game originally. =P
Do you have the same CTD with Better Dynamic Snow with your mod lineup? This may help identify what other mod it is conflicting with so I can add a warning. It does not conflict with CoT. I don't use RLO. Just like BDS, it may have the potential to conflict with mods that improperly edit meshes that the effect is applied to. If you find the lighting mod that it conflicts with, it may come down to choosing which mod you prefer or using an alternative mod to achieve the same effect.
Do you get CTDs if you replace this mod with BDS? BDS edits the same shader. You can look at this mod in Tes5Edit and see any conflicting records with other mods you have loaded.

SE snow shader option is pretty bad, not using it just give us the basic LE snow

Thanks!
This mod works flawless in every single place, minus in Windhelm.
I guess I just have to live with this and disable this mod for now.
