The smithing update is finally here. Hopefully there aren't any issues with it. I've kept the version without it as an optional download for people like myself who prefer that, but the Main File has the Smithing cavern.
The NPC's update might not happen for a while, but it's still something I'd like to do one day. I'm planning to take a small break from modding so that I can actually play the game. But I'll keep active with bug fixes if they're needed, so don't worry.
Thanks for all the support so far everyone. I didn't expect this many people to like my first ever mod, and I'm glad I could help some people find a good home for their vampires.
Hope you like it! The Thrall CAN be changed to be a male, and it's a fairly simple process. However, even though it's easy, changing one npc for four different versions of a house can be a little time consuming. So if I was to change something like that, it'd most likely come at a time when I'm making larger changes to the house too (like adding other npc's).
The Creation Kit can look pretty intimidating if you've never used it before (this was my first mod, so that feeling is still pretty fresh in my mind), but it's a pretty simple tool once you get into it. While I can't promise I'll get around to changing the Thrall myself any time soon (or at all), I'd happily guide you through the process yourself if you really want it done.
Hopefully you'll be able to enjoy the Den enough either way. I know what it's like to find a nice home but have an issue with one small feature of it.
Best cave so far. The workshop section is great. I liked you put chests and barrels for specific materials. Very well organized, and important thing in house mods. The entrance is epic. You just put the cave in a nice spot. I am using immersive creatures and I always have fun encounters either before going in or out of the cave. Usually see NPC events, specially at night, which had to deal with a group of globins. Not so close from the cave but close enough for them to come running at me. It was like if they wanted to raid the cave.
The mannequins unequipped the gear I had displayed. Glad the gear didn't disappear. Other than that I haven't found other issues. Good Job!
Edit: about the cattle, is not a big deal as I bring my own (companions lol). I just let her moan for eternity hehe.
This mod is absolutely brilliant and needs many more endorsements. Finally some who gets it and made a lore friendly vampire home, vampires are supposed to hide, not live in lavish castles and houses. You have no idea how long I searched for a home like this one, you should edit the title and add the word vampire to it, many more people would find it that way, I found it by accident using Google search for Skyrim cave homes and stumbled upon a thread on Reddit about cave player homes. Bloodfang Den is not descriptive enough so many people wont find your mod. I would rename it to something like Bloodfang Den-Cave Based Home For Vampires, it would add a lot more visibility to your mod.
Why I like this mod so much:
-Lore friendly location, a cave off the beaten paths with nothing outside that indicates someone lives in there. -Actual home is very nice, not too big and not too small, someone built inside it so it looks a bit like a castle, as you would expect from a classy vampire. -No unnecessary clutter and clutter that breaks immersion which modders often do as many houses are too exposed, too big or have way too much clutter that has no place in the house. -It has cave like entrance and stone door that can be lifted and lowered, actual home is behind the stone door, very nice touch. -Lots of bookcases. -Altar of Molag Bal and vampire cattle.
Two suggestions though:
-The activate gravestone is a really nice touch, but it allowed me to open the home even as a non vampire, if possible it should only react to vampire players which would add even more to the immersion.
Nevertheless it is a great mod and I will be using it for my vampire characters who finally found a proper lore friendly lair
Color me interested. I've been looking for a sort of underground lair for a new character (a vampire illusionist and bard who both bemoans his fate as a heinous creature but gleefully uses his evil new gifts to destroy those who would keep him from the woman he loves/obsesses over, a la Phantom of the Opera style) and this looks perfect for that character. I'll keep this one in mind when I get around to making this character. It looks very promising.
Would be nice to finally see a vampire crib with a dungeon. Like holding cells etc.. that the player can populate with choice cattle. With very good mods out there that enables the user to control any npc, there really shouldn't be a need to add cattles to houses. That said, this house is very well made. Though I am still looking for that one home for-> "Vampire", that comes with it's own small dungeon. Nice work.
Hey great mod but i noticed a conflict with the Hassildor Mod while installing it with mod organizer textures/aars/openbook/largenote01.dds if it's already been reported then disregard this message thanks.
Ooh, I always liked the look of Hilltop House. I'll have a look at the shrine there and see if I can get some ideas. I don't want to just clone it though because I need to learn these things myself. Thanks!
i like this little den endorsed. but i have 1 problem with it. from the little pond outside starts a fireplace-sound loop, which overlays all area sounds, it continue inside the den and it stops when i leave the pond area again. maybe a problem with Audio Overhaul?
Thanks for the compliments, really appreciate them.
As for the audio-bug, I've not been able to replicate it myself. I haven't changed anything audio related at all, and the only edit to the exterior cell I made was the addition of my cave. If you're using some audio-related mod, then I'd be inclined to say that it's a problem there, but I'll definitely look into it on my end to make sure. I hope it doesn't ruin your ability to enjoy the mod too much, and hopefully we'll be able to work out what it is.
i like your little den, so will live with this loop till i find out how to fix it. its for me now a must have like: frostfang coven, unique vampire dens and hilltop house. thanks again for this cozy little den
I like this idea. Would you perhaps be willing to offer a few small additions to this subterranean lair?^^:
--Firstly, instead of a simple, very conspicuous, wide-open cave entrance, I'd like to see a totally-concealed door for the main entrance....say: perhaps relocating it behind a difficult-to-get-to waterfall, and/or making it into a cleverly-concealed sliding stone door, activated by a VERY well-hidden T-handle switch, maybe behind wet, moss-covered rocks and dense bushes.^^
--Imagine: A small, beautiful, natural grotto off to the side, with a small hotspring-fed waterfall spilling into a steaming, warm, super-relaxing soaking-pond..."Aaaahhhhh!" (The pond may even be magically-enchanted with some nice slow-restorative effects, favoring Vampires, if possible....BUT, if such scripting would be too much of a P.I.T.A, then just toss that "enchantment" idea.)
I'm reminded of those super-lazy "hunters" sitting and soaking at the "Sulphur Soaking Pools", just north of Darkwater Crossing, just for this idea: --Underwater, natural stone sitting benches with natural stone footrests would be nice for soaking after a long night of "hunting".
--The pond may also be surrounded by a lush, vibrant Alchemical Garden, most likely dedicated to flora possessing negative or outrightly poisonous properties, suitable for a Vampire's Dark Works: Imp Stool, Nirnroot, and other nasty plants and fungi....^^ I'm reminded of the " Deepscorn Hollow/Vile Lair" DLC of Oblivion: it had a wickedly-cool "Garden of Venomgrowth", but sadly, no Hotspring-fed pond.
Do you think that such a natural little Garden Grotto might look nice as an addition to this already cool-looking Lair of yours?^^ Cheers, Brightstar!
I'll definitely consider it (probably as an optional version). People do need to bathe, after all! The full extent of my modding knowledge is already on display though, so I'd need to learn a few things to get something like that working. For now, I hope you'll be able to settle for going to the lake outside Riften for your baths while I get to grips with the creation kit.
Glad you like what already exists though! Thanks for the comment
When I was making this one, I was more focused on players being able to find it, and make their way inside easy enough. I figured the location was 'out-of-the-way' enough and the entrance was discreet enough for anyone passing by to not really bat an eyelid at it. But yeah, I'll definitely take that feedback on board. Perhaps an optional download for an alternative location. It seems like something that's within my ability to accomplish
Do you have any specific suggestions for such locations? I'd love to hear them.
I was thinking about how much Vampires tend to be all-too-often lethally HATED and hunted down on sight by those misguided Mortals, so any Lair for those much-maligned creatures would have to be VERY discreetly camouflaged and well-concealed, regardless of how remote it may be.
As for possible locations: I'd suggest any isolated creek with a nice, picturesque waterfall somewhere in the Rift, Falkreath, Whiterun or elsewhere, that could serve to well-conceal the secret, sliding stone-door from casual hunters, wanderers, bandits, and other typical wilderness out-doorsy-passers-by...
(As for the door itself, basically I'm picturing the same type of T-handle switch-activated secret stone door that you find at the "rear exit" from Bleak Falls Barrow's Dragon-Word Wall Cavern near Riverwood.) Cheers!
Which door is that? The stone door or the wooden door? I'll have a look at the navmesh and see if I can fix it. Glad you like the rest of it and I'll try and be quick with a fix!
Edit: Seems like I've fixed it. Walked an NPC all the way through without any trouble (other than that they tend to be a bit stupid). Hope it's helped!
