Just wanted to say thank you all for supporting the mod and leaving positive/constructive feedback and tips! You are awesome.
On second note, I would just like to say that Caius is still being worked on. I know there will still be a couple of issues reguarding the balance of Caius' power and how tough/weak he is. That is being tested and worked on quite frequently and to ensure that you get the most of Caius, please stay up-to-date with the latest version of the mod. Check this comment and the changelog (located in the README .txt document) For a full report on the changes with him. I would also like to say that dialogue for Caius is slowly being produced, I have very little time on my hands and I do as much as I can when I get the chance to work on him. Stay tuned! And don't forget to ENDORSE if you like the mod!
*UPDATE* I have come to light that Caius is very, very underpowered now, and doesn't last too long when in combat. I am currently testing/experimenting with Caius to get him the most balanced as possible. For some reason this is proving to be more difficult than imagined. SORRY
If you liked this mod, then check out my other mod(s) too! Skyforge Plus
So I got this mod for my elf character. For the first few days he worked great! He followed me around, he attacked, and he did what I said. I noticed, even though I took off the collar, he didn't change to a red fox. I brushed this off but when I was climbing to the 7,000 steps, I wanted to change rings. Caius had the shock ring and I knew there would be trolls so I wanted to switch to fire. I could access the talking menu just fine, but when I pressed A, I play one a Xbox controller, on the inventory trade nothing happened. I was still in the menu. It was like my button press had no effect. Note! My A was working before and this was the first time he did this. I knew I couldn't play like this. He couldn't be dismissed, he couldn't be commanded, he would just be a clingy fox at that point. This isn't the first mod this has happened though. I just hope this can be the last. PLEASE HELP!!
Also I have used console commands such as the setfollowers to 0 thing.
Thank you, great little friend you made there. Caius is not overpowered, easy to manage, doesn't bark (except when interacting in dialogue, so do not change this please, it is perfect as it is), catches up very well - always in vicinity, the unique look is very nice and is very sneaky. Yep, a perfect companion. Caius starts at level one and level up on its own, not with the player, the following instructions modifies this easily: - Open the console (press ~ sign) - right-click on Caius (if done right, its name appears along with its ID) - type in the following command setlevel 1000 0 1 100 - close the console (press ~ sign)
You're welcome, be sure to check out my latest update, it fixes some dialogue issues (Specifically when it took forever for Caius to react to something you said like "lets trade items" and it would take like 5 seconds before showing his inventory)
Ha. Only took me months to notice this reply. Sorry!
Yeah did have a few problems with that. Not so many that it became to much of an annoyance though. Caius is still an awesome fox to have around though (I loved his looks and that he becomes invisible when I sneak). Perfect for sneaky characters. Looking forward to any updates if you get around to it.
If you check the changelog in the readme file, the latest version states that he is a protected follower, meaning only the player can kill him. I haven't played the game for a long while, nor done anything to the mod in the time; therefor I cannot entirely confirm that Caius cannot die in combat by any other means than the player. From what I remember, however, protected means that he will go into a bleedout state when his health drops below a certain number, and NPCs and environment alike will ignore him, but I am unsure if he can still be killed by collateral damage (i.e. a fireball splash).
I really want to download this mod but I can only install mods manually, I was just wondering if you could tell me how to install this mod as I don't know how to install mods with .esp .bsa .bsl files (I'm on a mac if thats helpful)
I have installation instructions in the ReadMe File above. Just drag and drop the .esp and .bsa files into the data folder like any other mod. Don't worry too much about the .bsl, as there is no data on it. If you would like to put it in just in case, be my guest.
It would be cool if you could add a feeding option like with the BFF mod (http://www.nexusmods.com/skyrim/mods/20812/?) I'd love to be able feed both of them <3
Love the mod However told him to relax in BB Luxury Suite and later could not find him again. He just dissapeared, tried back at the cabin but no sign of him
Ah, yeah that dialogue option from UFO does not work with creature followers. This is not my fault, this is a bug within the UFO mod itself. Caius is considered a Canine follower or creature companion and this is really glitchy with UFO for some reason. Everything else works exept this dialogue option. My advice would be to tell him to just wait the next time. If you absolutely cannot find him, type in the console "set playeranimalcount to 0" without the quotes. wait about a day or so, and caius should be at the shack.
UFO is a great mod when just using huamn followers. However when it come to using it with creatures its limited in what ya can do. So if you want to seriously use creature followers mods or the available creatures followers in game . Then use AFT (Amazing Follower Tweaks). Even with UFO you are unable to have more than one creature followers (as in the vanilla) where as with AFT you can use pretty much as many as you like. My recommendation for those who wanna use Caius.
If you are still interested in a "relax" type dialogue option, I recently came to light on this mod right here called Followers can Relax
It is still a little buggy with creature companions, but it thankfully came with a debug tool (in case he begins to wonder off, jump around, walk on the ceiling, etc) Check it out if ur still interested
i can't make him look like a normal fox whene i remove his collar and, whenever i start sneaking, he go away like if i'd dismiss him until i unsneak and talk to him, which is borring since it is said to be made for Sneaking type character in the first place.
I'm using: http://www.nexusmods.com/skyrim/mods/12933/? For my follower menu, not UFO, and Interesting NPC http://www.nexusmods.com/skyrim/mods/8429/? . Since it change abit the alchemist shack (Adding an NPC) it might glitch him.
Hello there! sorry for a late reply, I have been.. well to say the least -busy.
To further help your situation, can you give me more detail on what happens when you remove the collar? In one of my recent updates, I retextured Caius to be black/grey with blue eyes. Does this fit the description of what he looks like when you remove the collar? Also, I am unsure as to why he is dismissing himself when you go into sneak mode. . . my best solution that I can think of is tell him to go home, type in the console "set playeranimalcount to 0" without the quotations, then go back to Caius and talk to him and get him to follow you.
My other guess is that Follower Extensible framework menu. I have a very high suspicion that that may be the culprit. It is probably causing some conflicts with the current scripting that I have. That mod was released back in 2012 so Im not sure what might've changed since then. If I were you, I would suggest using UFO instead of this, if you can handle it, otherwise I can't confirm the functionality of this mod, with that one. I will get around to testing it later.
EDIT: I figured out what the problem is, make sure that UFO, and that other menu mod that you have are placed AFTER CaiusTheFox.esp in your load order, this solved the problem Let me know if you have further questions.

Thought he had done a runner as I am sure I heard him mutter a couple of times - "This bgr fights too many Dragons"
