Update: The latest version of UHP (2.03) appears to relegate previous patch updates to script form, which means I can't undo what they have done to the beds. I have found a work around which works on ver 2.0 of this mod.

    Go to each Bard and Housecarl bed in game. ESC Save, Open Console, left click the bed, in console type;

    clearownership

If you did it right the bed will no longer say it is (Owned). If you accidentally clicked something other than the bed, reload from the save you should have made and try again. Do this for all three Hearthfire houses, a total of six beds. Sorry for the inconvenience, I just can't find another way to make this work.
    ---------------------------------------------------------------
The Unofficial Hearthfire Patch has made a change in their recent update that breaks this mod. They gave ownership of the upstairs single beds to the adopted children (who should be sleeping in a downstairs bedroom). This means I have to reference Unofficial Skyrim Patch and Uofficial Hearthfire Patch in the mod to get it to work if you are using the Unofficial Patches. It will also make the mod incompatible with children if you don't have a downstairs bedroom.

I have permission to use their patches in a mod, so I've posted an update v2.1 for this purpose.

Note that if you have children living in a house without a downstairs bedroom to sleep in you should not use this mod.

NOTE!!! version 2.0 is for Hearthfires.esm only. For some reason Nexus is saying you need USP and UHP for both files. V 2.0 is for Hearthfires.esm without the patch series. V 2.1 is for those who have the Unofficial Patch Series installed.

I've been out of the loop for a while (surgery recovery). After the 2.03 UHFP update I posted a request for help with this mod to the Unofficial Patch Team and this is in the latest Heartfire Patch.

      v2.0.4 (2014-05-24)

      UHFP Fixes
The fix for steward, bard, and child bed ownership added in UHFP 2.0.3 has been improved to only set child ownership on the upstairs beds if the bedroom wing in the house the children live in do not exist yet.

      Thank you UFHP.

You have to have a downstairs bedroom for this mod to function properly with UHFP and adopted children. As long as you put in a downstairs bedroom, in the house you adopt children to, the Bard and Steward will sleep in the upstairs single beds. I tested this running a new game.

This is a very late reply, but I just want to thank you for this mod. As I continue to use it, I appreciate it even more. No one ever slept properly in my Hearthfire homes at all till I got your mod. Thank you and I hope this post finds you well! : )

Late reply. My steward sleeps in the double bed like he's supposed to with this mod, but the bard (Nightingale) still doesn't sleep. He keeps playing his music, or he will stand by the bed doing nothing. I have the bedroom wing all furnished with no children yet. I use the Unofficial Hearthfire patch version of the mod in the lowest load order. Any idea why Nightingale still doesn't sleep?

The bard and housecarl stopped sleeping in my game with this mod. I don't know if something glitched out over time or what. They used to sleep - now, they don't. So I've just removed this mod and I don't hire the bards anymore, because they get annoying after awhile. The steward was continuing to sleep, though, which was odd.

      Anyway.

One solution is to use the My Home is Your Home 4.3 mod and follow the instructions for getting the steward and housecarl on the MHIYH schedule. Here's a link: http://www.nexusmods.com/skyrim/mods/64106/?. I just asked about it recently and there's a good explanation in the recent comments.

And what about USLEEP? Everyone uses that these days. Is this mod compatible?

Thank you for making this mod. I am trying it out now. Whether or not it works is another question but I am happy someone made a mod for exactly what I was looking for.
I hope OP is doing alright after all these years :)

P.S. I had realised a minute after installing the mod that this is for SKYRIM not SKYRIM SPECIAL EDITION. I was so sad as I watched... my steward start... walking over to the bed?
It works! Even on SkyrimSE, it works! I am so happy for this. Thank you! We'll see if something breaks later on but for now it's working! Thank you OP!

I use it for putting in bed my steward (he doesn't sleep standing all night beside bed without this mod/or without ownership of bed).
Now my steward finally sleeps properly (without ownerships of bed). Thanks.

Warning, this mod is a complete disaster and has broken my beds and places where NPCs sleep beyond repair. My kids are sleeping in the upstairs double beds, Vladimar sleeps with my wife, and my steward sleeps INSIDE a wall. Stay away from this mod, it's clearly been broken by other mod updates.

@ Carbon14C: I have no idea what is causing the problem in your game, but since the mod author got things straightened out ages ago with the Unofficial Patch team, I've been using this mod with no issues at all. No one slept properly at all in my game till I got this. Maybe you have a mod conflict or a a load order issue.

It looks like the Unofficial Hearthfire Patch folks have done something with the beds in the Hearthfire houses again with their update from March 18th. This time it just affects the bedroom wing, it looks like, and the double bed there. However, I'm not sure if it's safe to upgrade to that patch yet or not with this mod in.

I've just got everyone sleeping where they belong - I wish I knew more about modding Skyrim, myself, to investigate it. I thought I would post here and see if it's okay to upgrade to the newest patch or if it will cause bed issues again like the last update and this mod need to be fixed accordingly. Sorry to be a bother!!

I think the UHP people hate me. Not that I'm paranoid or anything. My daughter game me a copy of the Mass Effect Trilogy and I've been away playing that for the last six or seven weeks. Almost impossible to not use profanity when talking about the way Mass Effect 3 ends. The BioWare people should be tied to a rock naked and left for the dragon...

Anyway, I came back to Skyrim to find this broken, again. The way the UHP files work I can't fix the change they made from within the mod. Has to be done in Console, see note above.

      Thank you for your support...

Your welcome - sorry a bit late to reply! : )

I was a bit disgusted with the UHP people myself over that last patch (which I did not download, because your mod works great). But, anyway, I thought I should point out that Arthmoor has posted in the comments thread for the UHP that the next version will be affecting the upstairs beds "again" - this time (and he didn't explain in depth) making them unowned by children unless the character has children who are moved into the house in question.

I wonder how this will affect your mod? Any insight?

your solution with clearownership works, another solution can be, load the uhp into CK and change the owner proportie's for beds again, but with any new update it will be prolly the same

change all ownerships to none and save the esp, release esp and all 3 main(build) houses shoud work again

tested it with a new winstad manor, single beds upstairs not owned anymore

maybe another solution can be, turn your esp to a esm=master file, i think that will work to

THANK YOU! The steward and bard not sleeping was the most irritating thing in this game (at least for me). Finally solved. Thanks again.

My steward finally sleeps now! Thank you! However, my bard and the housecarl just stand by their beds all night - their beds say they are owned (no one slept in them prior to installing this mod, so I assume that means owned by the bard and housecarl as they should be), so not sure what is going on there.

The Unofficial Hearthfire Patch has made a change in their recent update that breaks this mod. I have no idea what they did. If I can figure it out I'll post a fix.

Everyone is sleeping now - I finally adopted children and they are sleeping in the correct beds in my Lakeview Manor house. Thanks again for the fix - it drove my OCD nuts to see my housecarl and bard just wandering around or standing (creepily...) by their beds! : )

look up the beds in CK and change there owner propertie to none, its set to player, as for any bard give them a housecarl sleep script house 1/2/3
that way he/she will sleep in 1 of the single beds upstair, as for the master bed, enable the second entry so that 2 can sleep in that bed
