Version 1.31 released, simply adds a new option in the census for those of you running Wet and Cold: Holidays.
Open you census > Change other settings > YES (if running Holidays)
If you aren't, don't even bother checking the settings, it will default to NO.
When updating, please avoid doing-so on a Holiday. When changing your option from NO to YES (or vice versa), please avoid doing-so on either the Warriors' or Merchants' Festival. If you don't heed this, you might be left with a buff come the next day. Easily fixed with a console command if it happens to you.
If you find an other compatibility issues b/w the 2 mods (ie innkeeper dialogue not showing on an innkeeper who is in town celebrating, etc), let me know the specifics and I'll figure something out.
I'm really busy these days so haven't worked too much on the mod itself. Plus, with the release of Holidays, my focus has shifted a bit since Holidays covers my 'end-game.' The next version will incorporate a more in-depth Settings system with more options, and will hopefully as well bring in a new 'warning system' for upcoming events. I'm also taking suggestions from the comments section, and have gotten a lot of good ones that I am trying to wrap my head around.
When I started putting mods on my game, Isoku's Holidays was one of the first ones I put on my file but it got inconvenient when I was supposed to talk to Silus Vesuius at his museum and everyone in Dawnstar was carousing at the inn for the day.
I really like the idea of NPCs' birthdays a lot more than just being able to determine my player character's own (and only at the game's intro sequence no less!), and coincidences of randomly-chosen birthdays really make spending more time in-game meaningful. Not to mention gifts aren't a once-in-a-blue-moon deal with friendly-disposition NPCs. I hope you'll be able to return to modding and fill out your vision for living in Skyrim.
Also, I found a typo for the NPC birthday quest: the description for stage 1008 lists "Aerin of Mjoll" when it should have "Aerin, of Riften".
Wet and cold holidays has been updated to just "Holidays" without the need for wet and cold. Is this still compatible if I choose the option or do I not need to choose it anymore?
This mod doesn't truly rely on anything at all. The option I've included just makes it so that there isn't a double-sale on one day of the year. So basically, if Holidays does the same stuff as Wet and Cold Holidays, then nothing is broken and you should probably choose the option included in my mod. Also, there is no need to worry if you uninstall Holidays completely, or install a new version. All that will happen is that there will not be a sale on that one particular day of the year. There are no dependencies, etc.
In conclusion, I recommend using the option in my mod if using Holidays.
Just had another idea for this mod, and that is...
"Special Events of Tamriel: Hearthfire Edition."
If you think about it, in real life, what is it that makes an event, special? It's the people your celebrating that event with ( I.E friends & family) . So my idea is this...from time to time have the player receive notes & gift(s) from his (in game) family members (such as adopted children, wife, etc) during special events. As far as immersion goes this makes sense, because they would be the ones most likely to this.
Edit: Since adopted children already give gifts periodically to the player when he/she returns home, It would be cool to receive "Special Event's" gifts (Birthday, Holiday, Anniversary, etc...) from them via courier while the player is away from home exploring Tamriel.
Maybe one way to do this is to use something similar to how you've implemented the census idea. Could have a list of all the children names in some sort of official adoptions document. Something that says these are the children that have been recognized by the holds as not having legal guardians and by an official decree are therefore eligible to be claimed by adoption. Then you could have a text menu pop up that asks the player to please claim the child that he/she wishes to adopt.( leave an option for no one at this time). Have 6 be the limit on how many children can be adopted and also have there be a processing fee of 250 gold per child. Could use the orphanage as the place to receive and submit the document, or the inns would work again. Then whichever children are "claimed" could send event gifts to the player via courier from time to time.
For people who don't have hearthfire there could be an option to sponsor a child at the orphanage. and then have the children/ orphanage send the player letters or gifts from time to time to thank the dragon born for his support.
couple more ideas...(in case delivery by the courier is hard to implement, or in case his dialog doesn't really fit the event)
Instead of the courier coming to the player, you could make the player have to go and pick up the present from the courier at his "home" (provincial courier service mod).
Or another alternative is to just use messages/quest text to do everything...
For example: Event day happens and the player receives a quest saying, today is such and such event, I should wait for, or rest a while to see if the courier comes by with a gift . Then after the player waits/rests, another quest message appears saying something like, Event completed- while you were waiting the courier stopped by and handed you a package and a note from "so & so" wishing you a happy birthday.
Ha, awesome. I like the idea of implementing new special events, not necessarily described explicitly in the lore, but which we can assume do exist in Skyrim (as you said, Father's Day/Mother's Day). I'd like to expand the mod in that direction for sure.
As for birthdays for the (adoptable) kids, I think they'll be receiving birthdays when/if I get around to adding DLC NPCs in a later version of this mod. Building on both the adoption ideas that you've suggested, and wedding anniversary and other ideas that have popped up in the comments, I think there is a lot of potential for expanding the family dynamic within a special event framework.
Besides family, I think that Housecarls would be the other NPC's most likely to send the player gifts and stuff + want to celebrate holidays with them.
So maybe something like a "servants day" could work as another idea for a non- lore holiday that still seems plausible for the world of skyrim.
Hey. Unfortunately, this isn't a current option. It would be nice to include it in a future update forever, as it sounds like a cool idea. This mod isn't dead, just sleeping, so it may find its way into a later version (If I ever find the time and will to do it...).
While this would be extra probably unneeded work, I'd love to see the Special Events book expanded into an Almanac with extra information below the description of the special event, like Alchemy Tips, background information, maybe the occasional picture of Monsters.
^Caveat: just pie in the sky thinking, I'm sure most players would prefer it were you to work on actual in game interaction and holidays rather than duplicating things that are better covered by separate mods ie. regarding my suggestion of alchemy hints, there is already a mod that adds a book that details all the ingredients uses.
I don't know if I'll evolve the mod in that direction (I very well might, as I'm *still* trying to figure out a good overall direction to head in), but we'll see. I like the idea and would love to see it happen, whether I make it, or someone else does.
Isoku just released Wet and Cold - Holidays, and from the look of things, it does some amazing things with in-game, visual changes: http://www.nexusmods.com/skyrim/mods/51472/?
For anyone concerned about compatibility with this mod, there shouldn't be too many issues, but I'd have to try it myself to be sure. There might be some consistency issues, since isoku has shops closing on days when I lower prices. This isn't a big deal and won't conflict. I'll look into other issues later..
Check it out!
Addendum: The next version of this mod will incorporate a few small settings tweaks to turn off conflicting parts of this mod, when using Wet and Cold: Holidays.
As wellI'm going to shift the focus of SEoT away from large-scale in-game alterations, as I feel Wet and Cold: Holidays is a great mod in this regard, but SEoT will still develop in a few other ways.
Shouldn't matter at all. This mod and WaC: Holidays don't touch any of the same things and use separate systems. The only conflicts will be a few things (ie. Isoku closes shops on a certain day, while I give everyone 20% lower prices: the shops being closed will always happen, rather than the sales, regardless of load order). You could always put mine lower/last in your load order, it won't overwrite anything from Holidays that I know of.
Is there an ETA on the update? I want to install this for my next play, but don't want to play around with removing scripts form the game part way through it.
Edit: The Wet and Cold: Holidays fix should be up tonight or early tomorrow. All it does is remove redundant sales on 2 events to avoid erroneous discounts. The mods are otherwise 100% compatible.
If your above concerns relate to updating causing script problems, then there is no need to worry. Updating this mod (not only to the upcoming fix), but to any other version of this mod will be 100% safe. If for some reason it will not be safe, I'll give everyone fair warning.
Special Events & Wet & Cold: Holidays both work great together. I really like how you've made the quest updates/ quest format for this mod because it helps remind/motivate me to check out the different changes occurring within the different towns. In fact, the quest format got me thinking maybe small Special Event / Holiday themed Quests, with useful rewards, could be one way go with future updates of Special Events of Tamriel. This would also help to compliment Holidays as well, without covering the same territory. What I mean is this...
Example: Local Inn is looking to try out a new recipe for one of it's seasonal dishes, but needs someone to fetch the ingredients (or find the recipe book and Bring them to the Inn on "insert Event" to receive a reward. Reward could be plus one to alchemy skill. (would also serve as a reminder to attend event as well)
Example: Bard needs help obtaining a lyric sheet for a song and he/she needs this to happen by this " holiday" . Obtain this lyrics sheet and attend the event for a special reward. Reward could be plus one to Speech.
Example: Parents can't afford to buy their kids a certain gift for a Holiday, help them track the item down for "insert event here" for a reward. Reward could be, "the good deed warms your soul and you feel energized" +10 stamina.)
Example: The Yarl of "winter hold" is looking to raise his spirits this holiday, and needs someone to bring in a large shipment of mead for the party. Reward = get paid twice in gold what the mead is worth.
I'm sure there are a lot of scenarios that would be better, these are just some ideas to work with. Thanks again for the great mod.
Thanks for the suggestions! I have very little time these days, and I suck at making quests, but I'm working on improving my quest-making in what free time I have. Your ideas thus won't be seen for a while, but I hope to include them at some point. As you mention, doing such would avoid treading the same ground already walked by Holidays, so it's def something I'm strongly considering.
Hey, Just wondering if anyone here has had a chance to run both Special Events and Holidays together at the same time. If you have, it would be great if you could share your opinions / thoughts on having both of these mods installed.

I'm not that interested in the birthday thing but I will try it out and see if I change my mind
