Thank you very much. I'm not sure if I'll find use for my specific case (query plenty of forms)

Is this for people who find tes5edit too user friendly?

This is for people who enjoy reversing the endian of Form IDs in their heads. Bonus points if they get a rush from seeing an ESP loaded, an inadvertently-added CELL record deleted, and the change recompressed and saved before the Enter key makes it back to the top of its stroke.

Why would you use this over TesVedit?

my guess is that "ESP Scalpel" can allow you to edit the mechanics of an ESP and not just what was edited on the ESP, im no expert though.

I think ESP Scalpel is a good choice for tasks that one might wish they could use a hex editor for but be unable to due to the lack of group length recalc and de/compression, but I don't see it being chosen for tasks over any existing ESP editors - especially because it's a command-line only utility. Both of the people who will be into it probably already know who they are. I've included C source code, which demos fast file loading and use of the zlib source, so it's my hope that something in there might be useful to other toolmakers as well.

Because some people prefer a CLI over a GUI? As a UNIX admin I'd be one of them

Looks nice, especially for automating tasks.

Quick Question: What License is your code under?

Thanks! To make it easy for others to use this in conjunction with zlib license, under the same terms as the license in zlib.h.

You should make a "Skyrim savegame scalpel" too

If I ever do that, it will totally have a switch that converts and displays the screenshotData field as ASCII art.
