    V2.3 is here!

    =============================================================

*** I have a store! Get your Inigo merch HERE! ***
    =============================================================

V2.3 fixes all known V2.2 issues, adds a few hundred new lines, and adds more whistle functionality. See the change log and the whistling section of the description page for more info.

FAQs and info for older versions of Inigo can be found in the forums section under 'FAQ and info for earlier versions of INIGO'

    ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
    Update instructions

    • 1. Get him out of the control of other mods (UFO, AFT, etc) and make sure he isn't riding, waiting, relaxing, or following Vilja.
    • 2. Save the game using the Save menu and then quit to the desktop.
    • 3. If you previously used Inigo on Steam remember to unsubscribe from the workshop version.
    • 4. Replace the Inigo.esp and Inigo.bsa files with the new versions.
    • 5. For those that use any kind of patcher, ASIS etc, be sure to re-run your patcher.
    • 6. Restart the game and continue from the save you made.

Step 1 is the critical part. He is completely removed from the standard game factions, if other mods (including Vilja) are still trying to affect him then they are going to get confused when he's no longer in those factions. It's fine if he is actively following you, sitting in the Riften jail, or even walking back to the jail.

NOTE: When you next save your game do not overwrite the save you created in step two. Make a new one so you can always go back if something goes wrong. This is a good idea when installing any mod.

Papyrus log activity when updating - When upgrading an existing save game there will be a second or two of scary looking Papyrus log activity. Worry not. This is normal and after saving all future loads should be message free.

SMF users - If you want to use both Inigo and kuertee's Simple Multiple Followers mod you need to turn off the SMF feature that automatically detects all teammates as followers. More info near the top of the description page beneath the update procedures.

    ---------------- WHEN IS V3 COMING??? ----------------

I'm currently working on V3 (where Inigo's quest will continue and end). If I have to stop for some unexpected reason this post will disappear. V3 is massive and I've had various setbacks (actors dropping out, my back going, covid, my pc exploding), but work continues.  It will take as long as it takes. If you ask when it's coming out you will just be referred to this message.

    ========================================================================
If you're interested in seeing a little of what I've been up to with V3 check out the Making Inigo V3 playlist.

An Important Message from Gary and Eolhin
    (Updated July 2022)

Eolhin: Both sections are now updated, spoiler tags added to reduce length to scroll past.  Expand to see the actual updates.

Gary: "Due to a slew of real life trials and troubles neither myself or Eolhin are currently able to reliably monitor these pages for the time being. On my side, this year hasn't been much better than the last, and I can't justify spending the little free time I have here when I could be using it to work on Inigo. Usually the wonderful Eolhin takes care of the day to day Q and A, etc, but she can no longer perform that role for reasons she outlines below. We humbly ask that those in the community who can help others, do so when they are able. Inigo has been out for a very long time and most of the issues/questions you may have will have already been solved/answered many times. If you get stuck, read the front page, FAQ, and sticky posts, search the forums, watch the user guide video, or give it a good old fashioned google. A massive thank you to those who step up and answer what they can in our absence. Stay safe and well, guys and remember to keep an eye on the Smartbluecat YT channel and twitter for news and progress updates."

    "Dearest friends of Inigo,

As many of you know, my life hasn't been the same since covid. The years just before covid were no picnic either, but since the pandemic things got worse... then continued to get worse. Far less security from my day job has meant relying on more freelance which in turn has left me less time to focus on unpaid work like Inigo. Progress is still ongoing, but it has slowed to a crawl. There was a time when I could afford to work on Inigo every day, now I have to grab an hour here or there when I can. There are factors outside of work; real life problems that will remain personal, that have also restricted my free time. That could change at any moment, but for now rent, bills, and family have to come first.

To be honest, I've considered posting that I can no longer work on Inigo; that due to circumstances outside my control, I have been forced to abandon the project (to stop the endless questions filling up my inbox, if nothing else), but that isn't true. No one wants the years of work I've already completed on Inigo V3 to reach fruition more than me, I still get, all too brief, periods where I can fully immerse myself in his development, and his character and story are always on my mind. I do however think it's best for people to understand that I am no longer in a position to dedicate my life to his development. I wish it were not the case, but there you have it.

Despite my apparent lack of progress, I still receive occasional donations. I am beyond grateful for this, and the extra support has really helped. That said, I have a request for those of you who are considering donating explicitly to support Inigo's development: please don't. Given the situation outlined above, I'd much rather people donate for what they've already enjoyed, not what they expect to enjoy in the future. Let's be honest, the way my luck has been going, if I do manage to finish V3 an asteroid will hit the UK just before my finger hits the "publish" button.

In better news, some substantial freelance work fell into my lap a few months ago which, should it continue as it has been, may give me the security to continue work on my best blue buddy properly for, intermittent, yet more prolonged, blocks of time. That would be fantastic, so fingers crossed!

I continue to be in awe of the community that surrounds Inigo. The constant love and support from that quarter has made these recent terrible years all the more bearable. With or without Inigo, you guys are utterly amazing.

Stay fantastic and be kind to one another.

    Much love always

    Gary"

"My brother, who I lived with and have been taking care of all this last year, passed away recently due to the cancer, which metastasized and ate his lungs.  Just two weeks before he passed away, our mother, who is disabled and has dementia, and who I also care for, fell and broke her hip.  The anesthesia made her dementia MUCH worse, so she was in a nursing home/recovery center when my brother passed away.  I had a brief few weeks to get a TON of paperwork, arrangements, and other such taken care of.  During that time, I tried to still do at least some of the Inigo support, though I am sure you will have noticed that I did not respond to everything, and things are not getting covered like they used to.  Now the nursing home has sent mother home, but she is still worse off than she was before breaking her hip.  I am averaging two to three hours of sleep a night, sometimes less, and I can't leave her alone at all.  I have to get someone to stay with her even to just get the groceries and prescriptions, or any other errands, and that is not always easy to arrange.  She frequently needs help during the night, thus the sleep deprivation.  Which is all to say, I will be even less available for now than I was when caring for my brother.  I hope that things will settle down, and I will be able to get decent sleep again eventually... but that is far from certain.  So as I said before, I don't know how things are going to go for a while here, and I may not have the chance to answer things at all for stretches of time, like recently.  As Gary said, anyone with long-standing knowledge of Inigo who can check in and answer questions should please try to do so more often."

I realize you are super busy & I want to say thank you for the many hours Inigo has given me in game. This may not be anything you are interested in doing but I was wondering with the release of Oblivion Remastered if you would consider creating an Inigo for Oblivion. I have started replaying Oblivion & find I miss that smart blue cat. Thank you for your time. Thank you for a wonderful mod and I wish you and yours all the best. Take care of yourself.

No, I fear if Smartbluecat (Gary) has any time at all to spare, which is rare, he puts it into working on Inigo V3.  A follower for Oblivion would be an entirely new endeavor, from scratch, and people are still working out how to do things with the Unreal Engine stitched onto the old Oblivion engine.  I still haven't figured out how to port my Oldblivion mod over to Reblivion.  Other than people fixing basic stuff, it will take a while for the complicated mods to start showing up in Reblivion, and to start with, some will likely be ports of existing mods from Oldblivion.

That said, there were followers created for Oldblivion.  Some of the very first actually complicated followers.  Vilja, the ancestor of the Vilja in Skyrim, was first a mod for Oldblivion.  She could even be asked to lead you out of complicated dungeons if you get lost in them.  (A feature put in for Sir Terry Pratchett who loved Oblivion, and was already starting to have problems navigating at that time.)  It would likely take some work to get that ported from Oldblivion to the Remaster, and I don't know if the author will give permission for that, but there were other follower mods, and there should be some form of followers coming along in the Remaster eventually.  Keep in mind, there are currently no official modding tools, so modders are making it up as they go along, and building the tools they need as they go, sort of like laying the track just in front of the train.  A follower takes TIME to build, it is unreasonable to expect one to materialize from thin air.  I had been looking at the mods that have come out though, and I already saw a nice doggo that is marked essential so he won't get killed easily, and he could keep you company until speaking followers make the port.  I am sure there will be some eventually, just keep an eye on the available mods and give the authors time.  There are also the knights from the castle-home that comes with the Remaster, and the Knights from the Knights of the Nine DLC.  They will follow you and fight by your side, but their dialogue is very limited by the standards you have gotten used to with Skyrim modded followers.

Once Skyblivion comes out (it will be free if you own both games), you will likely see followers for that a bit faster, as that is built in the Skyrim engine.  I also wouldn't put it past the people working on that project to include a few followers built in with more dialogue than the ones from Oldblivion.

I hope that gives you a few ideas of where to look for company on your path through the Remaster.

Explaining at greater length...  Mods for Skyrim LE (Legendary Edition, also called Oldrim) are entirely separate (as in different game) from mods for Skyrim SE (Special Edition and Anniversary Edition).  This is the comments section for the LE version of the mod, so no, it does not work on Skyrim SE or Skyrim AE.  You need to go up to the top where you chose the game you are looking for mods for, and change the game to Skyrim Special Edition.  The Inigo you find under there is the one that you want.

Have you watched a tutorial on beginner modding?  There are also ones on how to use MO2.  Here are the main causes of not being able to find him in the Jail:

First, you have to be sure you activated the mod.  Just downloading and unpacking it isn't enough.  Usually, MO2 would be helping with that, but the mod has to be activated in order to work.  (I don't use MO2, but generally it would be something like a checkbox next to the Inigo mod in MO2.)

Secondly, the Jail has two different levels to it.  Inigo is on the upper level, in the cell next to Sibbi Blackbriar.  If you take the first side path that goes down once you are in the Jail, you can end up on the lower level instead.  Then you wouldn't be able to see Inigo, though you should still hear him.  If you go to the upper floor cell next to Sibbi Blackbriar, and Inigo is not there, and his stuff isn't there either (books/journal/Mr Dragonfly/a lute that has been used for target practice, etc.), then it is very likely that the mod did not get correctly activated.  As you installed the LE version first accidentally, did you uninstall that, before installing the Inigo SE version?  You do not want two contradictory versions of a mod installed and attempting to run at the same time.

It will get easier with time and practice, just like anything.  Just google a Skyrim MO2 video tutorial.  Gopher is a good source, but there are other good reliable tutorial makers as well on YouTube.  The more recently the tutorial was made, the more likely it will prove relevant to the current version of your game, tools, etc.

      Hopefully some of that helps.

The Inigo official patch, and the Legacy of the Dragonborn Inigo add-on both install just like a very small mod.  The install procedure is the same, install with MO2 (in your case), make sure they are activated, and that both of those patches come AFTER Inigo in your load order.  Patches always have to come after the mod you are patching.  And yeah, the way MO2 installs mods, you have to launch the game through MO2 in order to have the mods active, so you will need to always launch through MO2.  Tell me if you have any problems, but really, installing the Inigo Official Patch and such should be very simple (and you do need it if you are using Legacy of the Dragonborn).

Oh yeah. Very thanks. I asked someone else in discord the same and they said after you install the patch and add ons you have to start a new game instead of on going save file because it will not work. Is it true? Is there a way around it? If not that would be a shame.

That all depends on the patch, and what it does.  I don't know if the Legacy of the Dragonborn Inigo add-on requires a new game to work, or not.  If you haven't been to the Museum safehouse yet, I would think it would be fine, but I didn't make that add-on, so I can't tell you for sure.  If you are just now installing Inigo, I wouldn't think starting a new game would be needed by that.

As for my Inigo Official Patch, most of the features will still work just fine if you install the patch mid-game (which I do say on the patch page - always read the mod or patch page... really, the author knows best).  Inigo can also be installed mid-game, as you just did.  There is one feature, a fix for an exotic bug we ran into, if you use SKSE64 and RaceMenu with Inigo, it can break his riding system.  The fix for that bug (built into the patch) has to be installed at the same time as Inigo, to work 100%.  Install the patch after you have been playing with Inigo a while, and it may fix the problem... or it may not, depending on a number of other factors.  If you don't use RaceMenu, you don't have to worry about that at all, and can just install the patch and continue on with your game.  If you do use RaceMenu, you don't have to start an entirely new game, you would just have to roll back to a save from just before you installed Inigo, then go forward from there.  Essentially, as long as Inigo has the patch from the point that he enters your game, that bug should be fixed.  Again, this is only if you use RaceMenu.  Otherwise just install the patch and carry on.

The people you spoke to in Discord may have been speaking more generally.  There are many mods and patches that DO require a new game to function correctly, in which case the author should say that on the mod/patch page.  That is why you should always read the mod pages for things, and when you install something, gather up all the patches you want to install for it to work well with your other mods at the same time.  If they were speaking about Inigo specifically...  Well, there are lots of confidently wrong people in the world.  When in doubt, trust the author of the mod or patch in question.  If they don't say, check the sticky posts in the comments, and if you still can't find it (that usually means it is safe to install any time after the required mods), just ask like you did here (only on the SE side next time please, so as to not confuse people).

PS:  Oh, and in your case, be sure you are reading the Inigo SE front page, not the Inigo LE front page.  The SE one has lots of different information for compatibility with mods that are only available for SE, and CC shop items and such.

Oh Museum safehouse? Whats that? Is it something i need to install beforehand? And yes, in the legacy of dragonball followers page the author did said i have to make a new save file if i installed the mod, nothing about being okay to load ongoing save if i didnt step inside the museum safehouse.

Nonetheless i will install your patch since i dont have skse and racemenu.

And yeah i get it, plenty of discord users say things unconsciously and half-assed without any care because they want to finish the conversation quickly and chat with their daily friends instead.i will read the patch before installing, but i dont know how to make/find one for those if the mod didnt mention it. Next mod i will be installing after this is
      https://www.nexusmods.com/skyrimspecialedition/mods/2247
I dont know how to tell if a mod need patch or anything.

I will try to ask in the SE page from next time, i thought the normal mods like this one can be used in any version, never knew there was a LE version and got confused and thought SE and AE are different, reason i am here instead of there 🙂

I will read the SE version page and make sure to read everything. Thanks for making time mate.

The Museum safehouse is part of the Legacy of the Dragonborn mod.  You will find that out in time.  I wasn't sure how far in you had gotten.

If the author of the Legacy of the Dragonborn Follower patches says you need to start a new game to use it, best listen to them, they would know better than I would.  The Inigo part of that is just a nice little add-on and connection, it is not in any way required to use Inigo along with Legacy of the Dragonborn.

Well, for big or popular mods, if they need patches for each other, it will usually say on the front page of one or the other.  A lot of things just work without needing patching.  But there are always mods that have conflicts that haven't been patched yet.  It really depends on what you are using.  No mod author can possibly be aware of every other mod out there.  I always check the comments page for a mod, and read (or skim) the most recent couple of pages of comments to see if there are any current issues that anyone else has been asking about.

Yeah, the whole LE, then SE/AE thing for Skyrim can get really confusing.  You will get the hang of it though.

I actually dont have the legacy of dragonborn mod, so i absolutely dont know anything about museum and why its important.

Nonetheless thank you. You're very kind. Not many people make time to reply to beginner questions without getting annoyed. I will come back if i had any problems. Thank you now i will go check out some other skyrim mods. I want to install a new lighting/grabhics overhaul mod now. Only problem is i saw it on as a background gameplay on those reddit "those who did" type compilation videos. I probably have to get help from discord. Anyway thanks.

As far as I know, you can't use the Legacy of the Dragonborn follower add-ons without first having the Legacy of the Dragonborn mod, thus my assumption that you were using, or going to be using, Legacy of the Dragonborn.

The mod is working, but it seems to 'reset' every time I close the game. Even after having him travel with me and saving with him at my side, when I next come back to my save he's teleported back to jail having completely reset. I've had to meet him for the first time thrice now. This also means all the equipment I gave him has vanished. Does anyone know what could be causing this? I have some other mods installed via steam workshop but none of them should be conflicting with this one.

Did you ever have the very old Steam Workshop version of Inigo installed?  If you don't completely uninstall the Steam version of Inigo (not just unsubscribe from it, but remove the files and such) before installing the Nexus version, the Steam version tries to grab back control and re-load the old files every time you launch the game (at the same time it checks the game files for updates, etc).  That resets the mod.  Remember, unsubscribing from a workshop mod does not remove the mod files, only deactivates the mod, and only from the Steam perspective.  If you have a mod manager running, that can also turn it back on, or installing the Nexus version and activating it can turn it back on, and whenever the game launches, it has a debate as to which version of Inigo it should be running, and that resets the mod.  Not everyone who had used the Steam version of Inigo gets this problem, but some do.

If you did NOT previously use the Steam Workshop version of Inigo, say so, because then something else is happening.  Or if unsubscribing from Inigo on Steam, removing all Inigo files, going into the game, existing the game, then downloading the Nexus version of Inigo (unless you had that saved somewhere else on your computer), installing it, and activating it (NOT the Steam version) does not fix the problem (it often does), then say that, as there is one internal file where Steam records what Stream workshop mods you have, and if that isn't getting the message that you got rid of the Steam version, that file has to be altered manually, which is a pain.  So tell me if the above doesn't solve the problem, and I will try to find my notes on where that file is stored, etc.  Hopefully the simpler solution will suffice.

I am only using this Nexus version of Inigo, I've never installed the steam workshop version. It said it was outdated anyways, so I figured the Nexus one would be the safe bet.

If it's helpful, here is a current list of the workshop mods I have installed:
      -Playable Fox Race: Fennec
      -Unread Books Glow
      -Bandolier: Bags and Pouches
      -SkyUI
      -Ordinator: Perks of Skyrim
      -Apocalypse: Magic of Skyrim
      -Ordinator/Apocalypse Compatibility Patch

Hopefully I haven't misread anything and haven't somehow glossed over something about any of these conflicting with Inigo. They shouldn't, but I might double check just in case. Thanks for your response, and I hope this is of any help to you.

Edit: It seems to be working now for some reason??? I honestly don't even know what fixed it, or even if anything was fixed to begin with. There's probably still some kind of issue related to it, but for now it seems like it's working again. It also seems to have restored the 'previous' version of him that had all the equipment I gave him. It's as if the game thought there was two of him or something. Not sure what to make of that. The only downside is that he isn't teaching me his map marker again, but he himself is perfectly functional and that's my only real concern.

Generally, barring the presence of any other Inigo versions, like the Steam version (which is the most common cause of this for Inigo on the LE side), the mod-reset when you enter the game can also be caused by problems with a mod manager that decides it needs to reinitialize the mod every time you start the game.  I have no idea what mod manager, if any, you are using, but that is one possibility to consider.  If your manager updated, or otherwise corrected itself, that might explain why the problem stopped again.  If it comes back, and you can't find anything wrong with your mod manager, tell me, and we can poke at it further, though it gets more complicated from there.

Oh, do you have your Steam folder, and all the games in it, NOT in the default Program Files folder that Windows likes to put things in?  If you let it get installed in the default folder, then security features from Windows can and will see it and interfere with how mod managers, and even some mods, work, and that could cause this type of problem, particularly around Windows updates.  That is why it is always recommended to install Steam, and all other games, particularly anything you intend to mod, into a 'Games' folder (or anything other than Program Files, really).  Otherwise Windows may see mods or mod managers changing the game content as malicious code, and try to stop it.  That can also cause mod-resets on game launch (not only for Inigo).

Hopefully the problem just won't come back, but now you know a few possible causes of it to look out for if it does.

I somehow lost Inigo's bow, then I printed setpqv InigoStatus Recover Bow , upgraded it,  and gave bow back to Inigo. And.. Inigo's Bow suddenly has multiplied. Now he has 10 bows, from low to legendary grade. How to fix it? When Im taking it back, bow becomes "one" again , whole again. So please assist
    me to fix this bug.

I have never heard of that happening before.  Huh.  So, did you put the setpqv command into the console, or did you use it through the InigoMCM?  Are you definitely using Skyrim LE, and not Skyrim SE?  This may have nothing to do with having used the recovery command, it is hard to tell without further information.  Are you using any mods that automatically update unique items from quests and mods to the level of item you would get if you got it now?  (If so, which one?)  That shouldn't affect Inigo's bow, but it would hardly be the first time something that shouldn't do something did it anyway.  From a bunch of different bows showing up, at all smithing grades (the bow is not normally leveled), that brings to mind either a mod that upgrades unique items, or a mod that alters how vanilla smithing works.

So, when you are holding the bow, it shows in your inventory as only one bow... at what grade?  The grade that resulted from your smithing?  But if you hand the bow back to Inigo, it shows in his inventory as ten bows, one of each improvement grade... Which one does he have equipped?  Can he fight with the bow normally?

Another possibility, other than another mod interfering, is a simple game glitch.  Because Skyrim.  To check for that, exit the game entirely.  Then start it up again, and this time, load a save from before you improved the bow.  (If that is also while it was lost, you can run the recovery code again, just be sure to check that afterwards, it is only one bow in both your inventory, and Inigo's.)  Check that it is only one bow, both in his inventory, and in yours.  Improve it again.  Hand it back to him, and see if the duplication happens again.  If it does not, then your game just freaked out, and recorded something wrong from your improving the bow.  However, if the same thing happens again, then I need the answers to the questions I asked above to try to determine what is happening.

Oh, and you aren't using the Inigo Morrowloot patch, are you?  That messes with his bow, and marks it as unplayable, so the player can't see it in his inventory to take it (which could cause you to think it is missing).  But if you add that patch after you have already met Inigo (it is meant to be added at start of a fresh game only), that can cause all kinds of strange problems with his bow.  I haven't heard of this particular one before, but it wouldn't surprise me either.

So get me the answers to all of those questions, and hopefully we can sort out what is causing this.

Just the same it has been for a while, due to real life problems, Gary hasn't had the time to work much on it in some time, but he also hasn't given up on it.  I did create an Inigo Official Patch for the SE side, and am currently re-building the Inigo front page on the SE side.  Once I get all that done, I will work on back-porting the parts of the patch that are relevant to LE, so there will be an Inigo Official Patch LE eventually (might be a month or two out, depending on real life for me).  That has various small fixes and quality of life enhancements, more critical for certain SE/AE mods and CC than they are for LE, which is why the SE version came out first.  Unfortunately, what still needs to be done on V3 are things only Gary can do, so I can't help much with that, and we all just have to wait.  I am trying to get those things done that I can manage with the patch.

Easily the best mod I've ever seen. Thank you so much, I can't play without him even if I decide to do a "Vanilla" playthrough.
