Hi, sorry for necro. Adore this cottage as its perfect for a character of mine. Wondering if you had any plans to update for special edition? Thanks for such a cool mod!!
I did have plans to revamp it for the SE, and wanted to rework it to include voice-acting, but those plans haven't come through yet. I might go ahead and update it for SE and save the big questline update for later.
This cottage is adorable and the quest is tons of fun. I really like the magey ambience of the basement floor. However, I get quite a few script errors in my log from this mod. Here's just a couple for examples.
[09/05/2013 - 08:51:46AM] warning: Property WNTCrabs on script WNTMudcrabScript attached to (09004A76) cannot be initialized because the script no longer contains that property [09/05/2013 - 08:51:46AM] warning: Property WNTColorBlind on script wnt_helloworld attached to (0900A034) cannot be initialized because the script no longer contains that property [09/05/2013 - 08:51:46AM] warning: Property PlayerRef on script wnt_helloworld attached to (0900A034) cannot be initialized because the script no longer contains that property [09/05/2013 - 08:51:46AM] warning: Property WNTColorBlindDis on script wnt_helloworld attached to (0900A034) cannot be initialized because the script no longer contains that property
As I glance down through all the logs, it looks like there is an error for almost every single script file in this mod. I don't know enough about this stuff to say whether these are an issue or not, but I do know about papyrus flooding which causes crashes to desktop and I'm getting a full page and a half of errors. So for me personally, I find that a little alarming and reasonable to hold off on using this mod.
I couldn't reproduce all of the script errors that you were getting, but at the same time, I did clean up a number of errors that I found. Also, it seems that I'd left some old scripts in the BSA that weren't used any more, and they could certainly have screwed things up somehow. I'll upload a new version now, with the cleaned-out BSA and the couple of errors that I could spot fixed. There was one that I couldn't fix, but oh well, it's definitely an improvement at least.
Squashy finish quest a long time ago, now. Squashy never get quest completion, ( not for Squashy, or any of @least 10 other Characters...Yes, Squashy has too many concurrent games 'cause Squashy is KrAzY..) !! Please give Squashy the Quest # and completion code, so he can finally be free in his Journal. Updated to 1.32, but, since the completion was b4, no go.
How to complete the quest if I screwed something up: 1. Open the console 2. Type in help wntquest. You'll get the editor ID, which should be eight characters long and end with 00244d. 3. Type in setstage, then the editor ID, then 130. (For example, for me the command was setstage 5b0244d 130 4. Never get nagged again!
Do you happen to know if this conflicts with any other popular Winterhold mods? I don't currently have any installed, just asking. Anything involving/related to Sheogorath is a total win in my experience.
I don't know of any Winterhold mods, but I kept the edits to Winterhold to a minimum. As long as they don't mess with the specific house I used or change up interior cells it should all be fine.
EDIT: I love it. It's appropriately mad and the quest is fun too.
One problem though: I had Jenassa with me when i entered the house the first time and got my ass handed to me by mudcrabs. We managed to escape, but now she is constantly going aggro on nonexistent enemies, even when we're not inside the house.
Moral of the story: Don't have a follower with you when you do the quest.
I'm not sure what would cause that--it sounds more like a problem with the companion code, but I can't be sure I didn't mess up something with coding the crabs. I'll look into it and see if there's something I could do to fix it. (Maybe cleaning them up instead of just trapping them in the unfinished house forever.)
Just did the quest line with Amazing Follower Tweaks and two custom followers with no problems. The aggro stopped after a couple of minutes outside. Don't know if that's helpful, but there it is. Anyhoo, definitely 100% madgod approved, really enjoyed it.
Well, it's stopped now. I cast a calm spell on her, fast travelled to Whiterun and then my game crashed. When i loaded the save again everything was back to normal, so one of those things must have fixed it.
I didn't check to see if I could reproduce the problem, but I just finished some script revisions that, based on my testing, keeps companions from getting stuck in aggro. I tried it twice with Jenassa and she left aggro as soon as we left the house. (And these revisions should also reduce bloat from potential crabstorms.)

I apologize for your companion developing PTSD.
