I hope people enjoy my contribution to the Skyrim rock retexture mod family.

Feel free to post screenshots in the gallery. I like to see how the textures look under different lighting conditions.

UPDATE 8/21/14 - Version 5.0A was added by request. This is a more colorful vanilla version, which takes the colors from the earlier 1.1 version and applies it to the new rock textures. For those who want more pronounced color to their mountains and rocks.

UPDATE 8/16/14: Version 5.0 now available. A complete rethink of the mountain textures. My aim was to get a real weathered feeling, the idea that the harsh Skyrim climate with its heavy snow and rainfalls would cause fracturing and erosion in the ancient stone. I tired to get real depth and variation into the textures. I hope people are pleased with the results.

UPDATE 8/9/14: Version 4.0 available with improved diffuse, normal map detail and variation. Improved the color blending between the two mountain textures and the normal maps also blend better now. Added an enhanced 2K Rockset normal map. This is the textures that gives shape and definition to the large rock formations.

UPDATE: 7/21/14: Version 3.0.1 now available for download. After further testing, I decided that the colors needed more adjustment, as they were straying too far from the default colors. The rock set normal map spectral layer was also adjusted to make the shading a little more subtle.

UPDATE 7/21/14: Version 3.0 now available with improved diffuse and normal map textures. Added more detail, and lightened the crevice areas, so the game lighting will provide the shadow more than the texture. Improved the color transition between the two mountain textures, so the seams should be less obvious. Added an enhanced rockset normal map to give better definition to the large rock formations in the game.

UPDATE 3/11/14: VERSION 2.0 now available with improved diffuse, normal map, and LOD textures. Same size as before, so I recommend that everyone using should update.

Update: Version 1.2 adds an improved normal map texture. File is the same size, but the detail and clarity of the texture is enhanced.

Your mountains are really impressive. That's very very good 2K textures and rocks and mountains are very "mineral".
I like a lot, one the the best mountain textures available here.

    Superb

Hey, have you ever considered making one big all- in- one mod for your textures? where you can pick and choose what you wanted?

Not possible, way too big a file. It would take forever to download and update.

Is there anything not to use your mod with Purity mod in regards of the special texture Laast provided to optimize lighting and shadow by his mod?

[Update] Added yours and haven't been asked to overwrite anything, so this should be fine, will see how it looks like.

There might be something particular with my setup but it seems to me the distant Lod doesn't match. I'll add a Screenshot soon .

I added version 5 recently and I really like the weathered look. You have inspired me to do my own textures for about a year now. I'm finishing up a granite retexture of Markarth and the Dwemer Ruins to match a retexture of your mod (granite with some lichen added). Is it O.K. to post my version with credits and a link when I'm done? I will still refer and recommend your mountains (ver.3 and 5 work the best).

      Thanks, for the kind words.

I actually had a donate button at one time...... one person gave me a small donation. It seemed that there wasn't much reason to keep that feature.

The colors are still there, but they may be a little more subtle. It really depends a lot on your lighting.I use a colorful ENB, and it really brings out the colors.

thanks. tried the new and damn, they're gorgeous. actually more detailed than 1.1
but you're right, the colors are more subtle and i can't see them much. maybe if there was a light grey version of these new ones. may just keep 1.1. love those!

what is a rockset? like an ingame example so i can check against my current one. is there an example like close to Riverwood? like a semi-specific area that i can check. welp thanks much for all your hard work! i use most all of them

1.1?...... that's so long ago, I don't even remember how those colors looked.

If you want the 1.1 colors in the new version, that wouldn't be hard to do. I could add an optional Mookeylama version.

The rockset is the large formation os rocks you see from a distance. Like when you're on one side of the river gorge below Whiterun. If you look across to the opposite bank, you'll see the large formation of rocks. It's the rockset normal map texture that gives the details to the overall shape.

heh, yeah it's been awhile. actually, on the colors, i posted some pics of 1.1 way back when. they're in your pic "user" section.
hey if you wanted to do that, it would be great. a Mookeylama version lol!

It's been uploaded. I just called it 5.0A..... the "A" is for alternate color version. Now you'll get the colors you liked in the old 1.1 version, but the more dramatic rock textures of the new version. I hope you like the result.

There's absolutely no need for all those so-called "HD" or 4k textures Gamwich. They're not performance-friendly at all & hammer one's GPU pretty hard. Then folks come back & complain about their game crashing/freezing/CTDing all the time. At least your textures are performance-friendly & visually appealing at the same time. I agree with hellanios that your textures deserve way more love than what they're getting. You're an asset to the Nexus community at large & it is my hope that you'll continue to improve/update your mods as time allows. Peace.

      Thanks, ff7legend.

Even with my more popular mods, the download to endorsement ratio is never more than about 10 to 1. My most popular mod, Rustic Windows has over 2,500 endorsements, but it has over 25,000 downloads. This mod has only 213 endorsements (currently), but it only has 1,988 downloads. That means Mountain or Molehill actually has a slightly higher endorsement rate than Rustic Windows.

So, for those that actually bothered to download it, a fair amount have been please enough to leave an endorsement. That's good enough for me. After all, I made it chiefly for myself. If others enjoy it too, then all the better.

Regardless, endorsements show respect & support for your/other mod authors' work Gamwich. You guys put thousands of hours into making mods for the community to enjoy. The least anyone could do is endorse the work/countless hours you guys put into making mods for Skyrim that make the game more appealing. I strive to show my respect/appreciation for your/other mod authors' work by giving my endorsement once I find that everything is in order. Nexus staff did add a pop-in message that's supposed to remind folks to endorse the mods they download/install but I don't know if that feature is working at present. At any rate, at least you have me in your corner of fans who respect/honor your work by endorsing said work. Peace.

Well, if I didn't enjoy it, I wouldn't do it. It definitely isn't paying the bills.

How do you like the new version?......... thoughts?
