Well, this mod takes absolutely ages to get off the ground, but when it does it over-spams smithing skill due to the values.
I also spent absolutely ages trying to work out which mod had massively changed the prices of silver, gold and ebony ores and ingots - it was this one. But it does not say so in the readme or on the Description page.
In fact, there IS no readme in the download, which is a Cardinal sin to my mind.
The mod is unbalanced as well due to the skill increases from the value of the items. It would be better if there were new perks in the Smithing tree, such as Finesmith, Silversmith, Goldsmith, Jeweller, Gem Cutter and what you can make depends on spending points on those perks. This would also be more realistic and immersive for pure Mage Characters and Thieves who would not be making lots of armour and weapons.
I had toyed with making my own Smithing mod like that, but there are so many crafting mods already.
I love Shadeybladey's idea on this and I noticed you have said to several posts already that you are no longer interested in Skyrim, so you no longer support the mod. Have you considered opening your mod up to the public so someone can expand on it? I'm sure there are some modders who maybe aren't too good with making models like all the gem cut types and such, but are awesome at scripting and could probably make really cool perks and so forth to flesh this mod out. It just makes me sad. This mod has so much potential. I LOVE finding gems in this game and I'm honestly the kind of person who would love nothing more than for someone to just make a house full of gems like a giant money pit for me to roll my character around in, so seeing this with all the different cuts and new shinies excited me. But.... seeing how it seems easy to get what you need and you've made things sell for WAY more than they should (including things that don't have anything to do with gems, like silverware. I highly dislike that), as well as the lack of perks or immersion, I just can't bring myself to download or use it. It's great, it's just not what I'm looking for. And if you have no more interest, it might be good to open up the way for another modder who IS still interested in Skyrim to carry the torch forward.
Looking at the posts, it looks like I never said how good the mod is and how cleverly it was implemented. I seemed to be too caught up with the changes to ores and ingot prices, and getting multiple Smithing levels from making a gold ring and so on!
I'm still using it to this day, but I did edit the price increases a little.
Such a shame that you lost interest in Skyrim and, in turn, continuing this mod. I really liked it and was hoping there would be an update where I could craft jewelry with these new gemstones. I would try to continue this mod, but I suck at modding.
The player gets stones (either with the ore mesh or like the dense stones from Frostfall) everytime he gets either an ore or a gem. The stone shouldn't be worth anything and weight the same as ores. Out of stones the player could craft a heavy armor (like the glass armor but with stone instead of a gem or ore), jewelry (small prize, weights more than a normal type of jewelry and has smooth little stones instead of gems) and weapons (simple stuff like clubs).
+20 Immersion- and Realism-skill
Fossils could be a great addition too (like dragon-, taesci- or Clannfear-fossils)
ps : I forgot if there already is, but malachite gems would be cool too.
I'd love to add that stuff, but I don't have great meshing skills. Maybe I could find someone to help with it?
I wanted to do a socket-ed gear type thing with it, but omg o_o Would take so long to do.
To bad I don't really have time to work on this. Plus, still can't figure out how to prevent the whole, can't load it in Creation kit bug when I try and re-texture the games vanilla jewelry.
I know it's a few years late, but if you were still interested in getting help, I know a good place to get some. I'm sure you could find someone there who would help you by either joining or teaching you.
I haven't really looked at it in a while since I've lost interest in Skyrim.
But, I used my mod with the money replacer that turns the main money into copper instead of gold, and the gold was worth, I think 50 copper each, so it was 1200 copper for a silver platter which = 24 gold which isn't a lot. I don't remember. But I do remember the reason behind the values was calculated by weight and material value.
Hi, is this mod still being worked on and if so do you still need 150 smithing to cut flawless gems because I just got rid of my community uncapper mod because I don't need it anymore
I'm sorry for the inconvenience! But I really don't do anything Skyrim anymore, I just lost interest.
A fortify smithing potion might work if it increases the skill it'self's number. Also, you could use the console to set smithing to 150 if you don't mind cheating.
Is there a preferred load order for this? I have some gem ores and gems in inventory, but at the Gem Cutting station at Dragonreach, there is nothing to cut.
A Work Hammer, Chisel, Gemcutting Manual, Gem Cut Schematics and a Gem Info Schematics. Different crafts are available at the gemcutting stations, depending on what ones you have in your inventory.
In order for you to cut flawless brilliant diamonds, you'll need, Gemcutting Manual, Grandmaster Gem Info Schematics, Diamond Gem Cut Schematics, Brilliant Chisel, Grandmaster Work Hammer And a raw diamond.
My character is level 23 now and I have not found a single book or tool to do anything. They don't seem to be for sale anywhere.
Does it need to be in a BASH patch? I think I included it anyway, but are there levelled lists in the mods that make the books and tools available to buy?
If not, where can I get them? I am digging up ore and have found some of your fancy gems and some are available for sale, but I just can't find the tools and books.
So that's why I didn't think it was fully working for me! Can you make an MCM to configure these requirements? I should have been putting these things onto my convenient horse rather than selling them.
I study geophysics and love gems, this looks great, but the mod might change the prices of silver or any other unexpected change/bug to the game is known? Just to be sure (maybe you could put a known issues section in the description)? Great idea and work.
I was wondering about this also. I used a mod on steam (now removed by author) which allowed you to buy a gem cutting kit from Madesi. This mod (called the jbs_gem_cutting.esp) which let you craft refined gemstones from vanilla ones at the forge. But it didn't affect the existing global prices of jewelry in Skyrim. Since I've got the Trade and Barter mod, I was wondering how this would affect that global mod since it already influences vendor prices throughout Skyrim.
Regarding future features for this mod: best part about the steam mod was that it also allowed you to use the rough and refined gems you acquired and craft valuable reagents like fire and frost salts. It's one of the ways I got the Riften smith's favor quest done so quickly. Would be nice if this feature were something this mod author would consider in the future.
okay, so all this seems like an interesting mod...but is there some sort of guide or something for it? according to an earlier post you need a bunch of things to cut, but there is no information on where to find them.
awesome, that is much better, thanks for the merchant info as well, will try to find one. I would suggest some better formatting in order to make that info and other important info easier to find, just as a tip. thanks again
I kinda hope you can add craftable armors and weapons to this as it would be awesome to use, for instance, a sword with a ruby blade ^^. ps: A pear cut gem would perfectly fit on a spear

I know I had one, maybe I removed somehow.
But, ya that's what I wanted to do, but I had to make the mod compatible with other mods I liked so I didn't touch the skill trees.

I've not met those people, though.
The mod does change the prices of the ores ingots and silverware, so it's not a bug.

I'll move it to the top of the description.
The items needed can be bought from jewelers, but are expensive,
they can also be found in loot spawns.
I kinda hope you can add craftable armors and weapons to this as it would be awesome to use, for instance, a sword with a ruby blade ^^.

I'll get their eventually.
But I've been having trouble adding ring and amulet re-textures for the in-game jewelry.
Meaning i'm going to have to either start over,
or redo everything after the last step, and more.
First, I have to figure out why it won't load in the creator.
