If you see the armor as pitch black in game, or far too dark anyway, it's probably because you're using different lighting settings than the mod's author. I ran into this problem because I like having a very dark atmosphere in game usually and I customized everything with various lighting mods.
Anyway, the fix for this is fairly simple if you have any knowledge about Nifskope -- simply open each of the model files in Nifskope and open every NiTriShape in them. Inside each NiTriShape click the BSLightingShaderProperty and change the Emissive Color to white (#ffffff, 1,1,1) instead of black (#000000, 0,0,0). Next change the Specular Strength to 2. I also adjusted my lighting effects to 10.000 each but because I did a retexture to add some glowing glyph effects to the shoulders I'm not sure this is necessary with the base mod.
Anyway, hope this helps somebody else, it took me forever to track down why the armor was so dark. It's an awesome mod and definitely one of my favorite armor sets so I am really glad to have it looking so much better at night/in caves.
