BOOK COVERS SKYRIM SUPPORT CLOSED : November 2016

After four years of playing Skyrim and over two and a half years of developing and supporting Book Covers Skyrim I am moving on from Skyrim and stopping support and maintenance of the Book Covers Skyrim and Book Covers Skyrim - Lost Library mods. I have removed my modded Skyrim install from my SSD and cleared the space for new games.

I have had great fun creating the covers and supporting players using them but I feel that the mod is now complete. Apart from known issues with triple-monitor Widescreen play, I believe the mod to be error-free and stable.

I will update the Nexus permissions to allow ANY and ALL use and modifications to Book Covers Skyrim and its assets with the single proviso that you credit me and link back here. There are stocks used in this mod that require accreditation so please respect this. If you want to take the raw PSD files of the mod and make your own covers, feel free to do so. They are in the Misc Files section of the mod.

Thanks for the company and have fun!

    Daniel.

Book Covers Skyrim - Lost Library brings high quality covers in the style of Book Covers Skyrim to a very broad range of over two hundred books from previous Elder Scrolls games and their expansions. It is a logical extension to Book Covers Skyrim and is fully compatible with this mod.

Subjects range from light-hearted comedy, traditional poetry, plays, stories and legends to heretical diatribes, dark prophecies, cult agendas and insane gibberish.

The new books will be found on Merchants of many types as well as on any NPC that you would expect to have books in their inventory. Similarly, any container that could previously provide a book will have a chance of the new titles.

Please be aware that the Merchants are not guaranteed to have one of the new books as the lists they draw from have a chance of no item. While a General Merchant is quite likely to have a Cheap or Common book or two, you would have to ask the Jarl's Wizards or the Orc Wisewomen if they are lucky enough to have any of the rare or valuable books. Members of the Thieves Guild with access to the Fences will find they tend to be well supplied. Urag in Winterhold is particularly well connected with book suppliers and Brand Shei in Riften has a specific interest that fits with his history.

One book has been defined as a skill book for each of the game's skills and has been hand-placed in the world. Placement does tend to have a certain logic to it. While some are fairly easy to find, others are well hidden. If you are used to searching for rare items in Morrowind, you will feel at home here. Skill books will never appear in a Merchant's inventory or on an NPC. Many of the skill books will have an owner that you may have to become friends with in order to take the book without stealing.

Spanish Language contents for the books is in the Optional Language Pack in the downloads. As for the textures of the booksthat contains the pictures of the English titles, I have made teh Photoshop Source files available too for translating but you would need somoene to create new Normal Maps.

If you use console commands to zoom in to a book's pages itself with either tfc or tcl you can see some kind of Arabic or Persian script. What language is that? And what on Earth does it say? I can't find anything online about it.

If you are looking at the World view of a book, I suspect you are seeing textures\clutter\books\book01paper.dds. It is in English but does not make sense form line to line because it is only a partial slice of a hand-written letter.

@DanielCoffey Thanks and congratulations, great job!
Too bad my loading times more than doubled after installing this mod... Did this happen to anyone else?

It does have a large texture file to parse once unpacked so if you are storing the game on HDD rather than SSD, that might explain it.

I don't know if it would parse faster if the BSA was unpacked into its loose files (using DDSopt) or not but that would make it more troublesome to remove the mod tidily.

Sounds to me it's time to stop playing on a turnip :P

My load times haven't been affected.

@Vlaka Not everyone can afford a high performance laptop or desktop pc. Sounds to me like you should stop telling people what to do and stop being a jerk.

So no one has made a low-resolution version of this mod?

Kinda' a bummer... I'd love to see unique book covers in my game...
but I need to keep resolutions of files to a minimum. :\

Have a look at the DDSOpt tool because you can download the mod, unpack the textures into a folder and resize them to, say, 512x512 with 256x256 normals. Main textures should be DXT1 and normals should be DXT5 with alpha channel.

How does this requires a patch for REQUIEM?....according to "Requiem Patch Central"? do we really need it? :o

You would have to ask on the Requiem mod page. Although I did do some custom book covers for Requiem, I thought that version was standalone. It is possible that Requiem could have added more books using BCS assets?
