Yes! I have never tested AFT myself (I know, I should do that ;-)), but I found the confirmation in the mod description of "CM New Companions Mod by Cutthroat Mods", and I used the tutorial of that mod to create my followers here. So you could give them a try.
Here is the quote from the description:

It is nothing special (I have made more elaborate mods) but I think they were the first non-vanilla followers in Solstheim. And I really had fun creating them, placing them on the marvelous Morrowind island, and enjoyed wandering about with them. And I am happy when some others get to know them, too!
after installing the mod, the cell names of the two locations in solstheim, where the followers reside, are displayed in German... Could you change that?

I was really wondering why nobody else had done this before - so many mods are published each day and the Dragonborn-DLC is such a must-have and Skyrim milestone for me (and for others, too, I guess). And I really had fun creating the followers, especially Sveya, who is my Frea-alternative.

I could have thought of the cell name issue myself - sorry for this - and I am really grateful that it was finally reported, so I became aware of it!
