Dear god, this is like the dumbest thing to not have in the vanilla game.
Didn't even notice what with all the time I've spent with mods that let you use charcoal to make steel and never even noticed. No such luck with requiem, I guess.
Hmm..an interesting concept which makes sense but hadn't occurred to me.
In truth I typed "corundum" into the search box on the premise that if 1 iron ore = 1 iron ingot then why does it take 2 corundum ore to make 1 corundum ingot?
Personally, I feel a recipe to change ingots into ore would be too big a break of immersion for me to want to make it. You are welcome to do so, though. It is actually really simple to make recipies.
