The Triforce is an item of mystical power created by the three Golden Goddesses; Din (Strength), Nayru (Wisdom) and Farore (Courage). It is locked away in the Sacred Realm (probably to limit the abuse of its power). If somebody with an imbalanced heart takes the Triforce, it will separate into three pieces, each representing the three Golden Goddesses. The person who tried to take the Triforce will gain the piece that most relates to them. (Example, Ganon recieves Strength) Meanwhile, the other two pieces go to whoever they relate to most (Zelda recieves Wisdom and Link recieves Courage). That person can then seek the other two Triforce pieces in order to regain the whole Triforce.
The Triforce is capable of granting a wish, no matter what said wish is and if a person of great evil were to claim it, the world and the Sacred Realm would fall into absolute chaos. Whereas if it were a person with a good heart, the world and the Sacred Realm would basically become paradise.
Would be amazing if someone could put together a mod where you have to collect 8 Triforce shards, with which you can craft one piece of the triforce (strength, courage and wisdom). so 24 pieces in total. massive dungeon spelunking and treasure hunting right there.

By Din's mighty flames!! The most holy and powerful object in all of Hyrule and all its realms laying atop a measly barrel?!! It deserves a more appropriate location than that, such as Mara's temple.
