I've used it successfully with OG Skyrim characters, but I don't believe that this works for Skyrim Special Edition or A.E.
When using an SSE/SAE character, after I insert my quest number in the appropriate space, and click the "reset stage" button, a command box opens, it reads "Resetting selected QUST" and "Creatied by seifer69er" and then nothing else happens. When I used the tool in Skyrim LE, there was a bit of command line working, and then there would be the "Hit any space to continue" prompt.
So... probably a waste of time for SSE/SAE folks. If anyone has used this with SAE/SSE, please speak up. :)
Hey, does this tool still work? When I press reset stage, the command box opens and it says that it is removing selected info but it actually doesn't do anything. Mupa was previously commenting on this but I don't think he got a response. Anyone have a solution?
Just wanted to say thank you! This cleanedup the stupid Return to Grace stuck quest log. I'm glad there are amazing people like you who just couldn't sit and let go of the bug-filled game.
For those of us who CAN read and understand English, here's how to make this tool work (because the author's readme flat out sucks):
SETUP 1. MAKE A BACKUP OF THE SAVE FILE THAT HAS PROBLEM QUESTS FIRST! you have been warned. 2. Run Skyrim. 3. Load the save file that has the problem quest(s) in it (I had a problem with 'Blood on the Ice' ). You should now be in-game. 4. Bring down the console (~ key) and type: save mygame 1 5. Press RETURN. 6. Skyrim will collate a bunch of info behind the scenes and drop to your desktop. Whether it does or doesn't, quit Skyrim. Now look in your Skyrim saves folder (C:\Users\username\ Documents\My Games\Skyrim\Saves), you should see a new file called mygame.ess.txt. This is the 'info dump' file we just created. Don't open it. If it opened automagically, close it. We'll open it later. 6. Run the Skyrim Quest Deleter program. One thing to note here is that the program consists of 2 parts: the quest deleter and the quest dialog deleter. They work separately and do not need both text boxes filled to work. We'll need both parts of the program though. 7. Now we need the name of the problem quest. Copy the title from Skyrim and go to uesp.net or click the big button on the Skyrim Quest Deleter program to go there. When you're there, type the name into the search box to locate your broken quest. 8. When the quest page comes up, scroll down to the Quest Stages section. The questname will be in parenthesis at the top of the Stage table next to the quest's title (in my case, Blood on the Ice (MS11) means that my questname is MS11). Write it down. We need the questname info for later. 9. In Skyrim Quest Deleter, click the bottom button (Display all QUST's and INFO's). Navigate to your Skyrim saves folder and select mygame.ess.txt (our 'info dump' file). 10. A DOS box will appear for a few seconds, then your default text editor will open with a file named MyIDs.txt. The information is in two parts: Quest information at the top (will have a tag that says Quest Flags (#)), Quest Dialogs in the lower half (will have a tag that says Said Once(#)).
DELETE THE QUEST FIRST: 11. Search the info dump file (MyIDs.txt) for the name/title of the broken quest. The QUST ID is the first number of that entry, on the far left (in my case, 'Blood on the Ice' QUST ID is 0001F7A3). 12. Type the QUST ID in the appropriate box in Skyrim Quest Deleter. Remember that the program has 2 parts, so ignore the other text box. 13. Press the Reset Stage button in the Skyrim Quest Deleter program, and choose the problem save file when the file dialog box appears. A DOS box will appear showing you that the program has modified your save file. Press any key to dismiss it. 14. REMEMBER that QUST ID info has the Quest Flags tag, if you don't see the Quest Flags tag, move your cursor back to the top of the file and skip to step 15 or search again. You should only have to do this once. This removes the quest from your active list.
DELETE THE QUEST DIALOGS NEXT: 15. Now we need the questname from the uesp.net site (remember 'Blood on the Ice' is MS11) 16. Search MyIDs.txt for the questname (MS11 in my case). The INFO ID is the first number of every entry witht the questname in it, on the far left (in my case, the first 'Blood on the Ice' INFO ID is 000BAC24 (MS11Kicker), the second is 000AF269 (MS11PreEssentializing)). 17. Type the INFO ID in the appropriate box in Skyrim Quest Deleter. Ignore the other text box. 18. Press the Remove Dialogue button in the Skyrim Quest Deleter program, and choose the problem save file when the file dialog box appears. A DOS box will appear showing you that the program has modified your save file. Press any key to dismiss it. 19. Repeat steps 16-18 for ALL questname entries you find. Note that your questname may have extra characters attached to it (see step 16 for my experience). This will remove the records of quest specific conversations.
20. You can now quit Skyrim Quest Deleter. You also may want to delete your temporary files (mygame.ess.txt, MyIDs.txt, and mygame.ess) from your Skyrim saves folder. 21. Fire up Skyrim, load your fixed save file and check your quests. The problem ones should be gone. 22. Profit.
I do not recommend using this tool to re-do finished quests. Finishing a quest automatically sets flags for other parts of the massive Skyrim quest database that may be detrimental to your game. Only use this for broken quests that haven't been completed.
Hello! I followed your instructions exactly, and the quest was in my journal still (Ice Cold, Freeformriften07). This is what I did to get rid of it completely: "12. Now you may use the setstage command in the console to remove the quest from your Journal eg. setstage FreeformRiften07 10 setstage FreeformRiften07 20 setstage FreeformRiften07 200" Worked like a charm!

[NeedsMoreCoffee] Ignore this :$ All is well. I just didn't realize I had to use the Deleter on the Save I created with the console command during the first steps, and obviously load that when I'm done.
HI, it doesn't work for me. When I press reset stage or remove info the console opens it sais that it is removing selected info but it actualy doesn't do anything. How long does that console should be working, might it be because I have choosen wrong quest? Thanks
