You should update this to use the SDK instead of script dragon. Everytime there's an update to the game, all mods using Script Dragon become useless until the next SD update (which usually takes more than a week). This was something we could live with when there was no sdk. Not necessary anymore.

Edit: Btw about making this mod with the sdk you might want to consider 2 options, you can make it from a quest script of from the horse's scripts if they have one (conditions allowed for the 2 types are diferent).
Looking at the sdk it looks pretty similar to the GECK's so I'm guessing the process to make references persistent is the same. So for that, you only need to open the object's options window by double clicking it on the list, and tick the persistent ref box.

Opening containers can be done through a script using basically 2 diferent commands depending if the object is a container or if it's a companion's inventory.
The first ones can be activated with the "Activate player" command, the last ones with "CompanionRefID showinv" (or something like that).
Bear in mind that I havent tried out the sdk yet (just looked at it) and although it looks pretty much the same, some things may be a little different.

This a great idea for a mod. I was just about to suggest something like this in the forums.

My idea of having a pack horse was replacing the ability to mount the horse with the ability of the horse being able to hold things. The pack horse would follow you around and run away if attacked. As I generally dislike getting off a horse to initiate combat(random enemies, ambushes, and the like). Plus the fact that followers have a hard time keeping pace while on horseback.

But for now, I will try this. thanks a lot!

    GREAT mod!...Endorsed and downloaded.

One request tho, can you please remove the text "[Packhorse] Active" or at least make it optional.

Thanks for the info khbazur, that's quite helpful. Unfortunately I'm still a ways away from making it work, because for the life of me I cannot figure out how to open a container.

the formID 000F8478 creates a TreasChestSmallEMPTYNoRespawn, but the game creates a random prID number that is generated at the time it's spawned. If you can define a prID for the chest you can use that for the horse's container.

Of course this chest is unlimited in capacity though that is no different than riding a horse with 3000 weight and fast traveling lol.

Using a persistent container of some kind was my second idea, but unfortunately I'm not sure how to tell or declare anything as persistent or not. Or how to create a container... or how to open a container... :/

I think I can figure out that last bit, but I need to find a container that is persistent and accessible from all parts of Skyrim (I don't think the horses ever leave the outdoors, though if they do please correct me).

Thanks for the suggestion though, khbazur, I wasn't aware of how the other mod did it.

@blattgeist: if I knew anything about how followers worked I think I would actually try that :p

Oblivion saddlebags mod used a norespawn container tied to the saddlebag command. The container was placed somewhere in the world. (originally at the place where you bought the horse) Then when you opened the saddlebag it called the container but put it underground below your horse when you opened it.(no idea why it did this) This allowed you to put items in and it was persistent and was accessible from any of your horses.

    Maybe do something like that?
