IMPORTANT: Many non-map related mods have the worldspace settings embedded in them, even when you can find no reason for the mod needing it. Because of this, whenever you install a new mod, you need to verify that it hasn't changed the load order, or you may find yourself with the vanilla settings again, or with something else you may not like. Mine needs to load LAST. I recommend BOSS for this purpose.
The only things that should load after the main mod file are the Bash patch created by Wrye Bash and the Merge patch created by TES5Edit, if you use those (f you don't, you can ignore this last sentence).
Note: I have been away from Skyrim for quite some time, but am now running it again.
Please see the Files section for the new optional file (World_Map_No_Fog) which removes the fog at higher altitudes. This file (only) appears to be load-order independent, but I'm not completely sure on that.
It took me a bit of time to get it tweaked correctly, as removing the fog messes up the color balance on the map.
Many thanks to uncannychuckles for showing me how to do it.
I'm very glad this is proving useful to all of you. Unfortunately, I am currently unable to do any modding for Skyrim, as I'm dealing with some serious medical issues, and do not have access to my files or my Skyrim installation. I will add the settings that are working for you (& credit you for them) to the description when I get a chance, and will also add the link to the versions created by kraag for the DLC's. Thank you kraag! Thank you all for your support!
I have the same problem, how did you solve it?? And where are you getting those numbers/settings since it's only an esp file? I mean there is no ini file to go alongside with it
Super-duper mega awesome. This fixes the disappearing map bug, where you see a flash of sky and then just get grey instead of the world map. That issue made my game effectively unplayable, and this mod saved it.
PS: I find that this is better loaded AFTER the Bashed Patch from Wrye Bash, just entirely independent of it. In my case, this mod quit working after a while when loaded before the BP, but has worked flawlessly for months since I moved it out of any ability of Wrye Bash to monkey with what it does. I would (and do) also load it after any merged patches from TES5Edit.
The potential problem is as described in the first sticky note here: "Many non-map related mods have the worldspace settings embedded in them", often for no reason. The necessary but missing conclusion: If any merged patch from Wrye Bash or TES5Edit includes any such resources from any such mods, and they load after the Pitch Tweak, then they'll undo some or all of what it is doing.
Basically, the only thing I allow to load after this mod is a mod I'm temporarily testing and have not put into my regular load order.
Downloaded the 250 version that supposedly includes the 90 degree pitch, but I'm only getting 50 degree pitch. It's loaded dead last in my plugin list. Everything else appears to work fine.
great mod. I found that uLockedObjectMapLOD=8 uLockedTerrainLOD=32 worked best for me as if I set my terrain LOD any higher the roads tend to vanish on me. setting uLockedTerrainLOD=8 results in nice detailed terrain but ugly textures and the roads are often missing.
This is a great mod for the zoom, but I would actually like to see an implementation of the sMapCloudNIF=0 setting. The recommended clear map mod helps, but I personally still want to also get rid of ALL the clouds, including those surrounding the map. There are some islands on the outskirts of the map that when you're exploring, the outskirt clouds still interfere with seeing those islands on the map clearly.
Sorry for taking so long to reply, I've been away for a while. I"m not sure what you're asking for. My understanding is that orthographic projection is 2D views of a 3D object (top view, side view, rear view, front view) ... at least that's what it means in drafting or design (I"m an engineer). That doesn't really make sense to me in this context, unless you're asking for a top down view (in which case you want my 90 pitch version of the mod). If that's not it, could you give me an example of what it is you're looking for?

fMapWorldYawRange=3600.0000
fMapWorldMaxHeight=130000.0000
fMapWorldMinHeight=1000.0000
i can zoom great but i want to rotate map and pan better than vanilla! what's the problem with my settings?

Stumbled across this mod here http://www.nexusmods.com/skyrim/mods/16619/?
Applied a couple of his recommended Skyrim.ini tweaks:
fMapWorldMaxPitch=400.0000
fMapWorldMinPitch=0.0000
and now everything works great. Phew!
uLockedTerrainLOD=32 worked best for me as if I set my terrain LOD any higher the roads tend to vanish on me. setting uLockedTerrainLOD=8 results in nice detailed terrain but ugly textures and the roads are often missing.
I've created a mod that does these tweaks for Solstheim, Falskaar & Wyrmstooth world maps.

Would it be feasible to also change the camera from perspective projection to orthographic projection?
