Thanks for your suggestions. I'll consider it! (:

Besides potions, maybe I could try having alchemy affect cooked food somehow.

I would suggest making cooking a skill like alchemy. some perks for making better recipes maybe dwemer, orc, and elvish recipes for the top tier perks. elves more vegetarian improves magic, orc meat and potatoes and improves combat, dwemer a mix of the 2. lower tier perks improve generic recipes, the ability to make bread and various drinks and last one improve the drinks. so list would be:

    1. Improve recipes, cooked food is XX% better. 3 stages of 10% @ lvl 2, 25% @ lvl 30, 50% @ lvl 60.
    2. Make bread and drinks(stronger versions than what you can find, perk 1 doesnt affact them). opens at lvl 20.
    3. Improve bread and drinks. opens at lvl 30. 2 stages of 25% lvl 40, 50% @ lvl 60.
    4. Branches off into 2 perks.
4a. Elvish recipes. vegetarian, cheese, and fish ingredients. improves speech, magic abilities, and archery.
4b. Orcish recipes. meat, cheese, and potatoes for ingrediants. basic hearty food. improves combat abilities and stamina.
    5. Comes back to the final perk:
5a.dwemer, improves all crafting, health, stamina, and magic. improves elvish and orcish recipes. includes recipes that alchemy has exclusive just slightly weaker or doesnt last as long.

Anyway you can ignore that suggestion to make cooking a valid skill alongside your other changes.
