It eludes me that this mod was ported to Skyrim SE , and then the Author Disappears and takes his toys with him . No explaination , or anything at all . Really disappointing , from a fellow modder .
is that what happened? i was wondering what happened to the se port because that's what i used ages ago im miffed now because SE doesn't have a good way to do this sort of thing without the tomestone floating or whatnot
Well , there is good news for SE . Try using Clean up their Corpses https://www.nexusmods.com/skyrimspecialedition/mods/24026 Then , craft , buy or find a shovel ( clout shovel preferably ) and all you have to do is hit the corpse , and a tombstone will appear . Plus you can re customize the lettering , so its almost as fun as ( Bury The dead ) . heres the original instructions : Bury Body: You'll need to hit the corpse/charcass with a shovel, axe or scalpel to bury them. How you bury the body depends on what you use. If you use the Corpsecutter's Axe, an impaled detterent gets placed, which can be used as warning for intruders and enemies. It will spread an aura of fear if you choose so. Afterwards you can interact with the detterence, applie fire acceleratn to it, and ignite it with torch or fire spell. If you hit the corpse with a shovel, you will bury them with a tombstone, or under a heap of earth if you've previously put clay into their inventory. And finally, if you previously put 5 linen wraps into their bodys, and use the scalpel, they will end as mummy. Animals/Creatures can only be processed with a shovel and will always leave a heap of earth, which you can then place a tombstone (fully interactable) or weapon at. The shovel and scalpel can be crafted at a forge. Corpsecutter's axes are craftable at forges with the vanilla Woodcutter's Axe as prerequisite.
Question, does anyone have a file of the SE port that went missing some time ago? A couple years ago I took a break from Skryim SE (because a damn chicken mod was causing crashes very frequently and I didn't realize it at the time) and ended up deleting all my mods, including Bury The Dead's SE port and I am now regretting it extremely. Honestly, if I could go back in time, I would probably have fixed my issue and not left Skyrim for a good year or so (though TBF I'd probably also be getting into FFXIV far sooner if I did that so I probably still would have - just would have ended up not deleting Bury The Dead XD)
I can confirm that this Mod works for SSE out of the box at least for me, I used mod Organizer 2 to install it, And it gave an option to Automatically unpack the mods BSA which I did... and It works fine so far.
Thanks a lot! Now I can show my proper respect for my worthy foes. Many times I loot my enemies clothes so it's unconfortable for me to let their dead bodies like that in the ground.
I hope I haven't already left this comment but when I've used this mod in the past it would sometimes still leave the person's body behind AND create a gravestone for them. So their corpse would be stuck there fused to the gravestone. Why would that happen? I doubt I had any mods that would cause that to happen.
It is a severely bugged alpha WIP and I got 125 MB papyrus logs within minutes, stuttering, lag and generally terrible performance. It's the only mod that ever did this and also baked into my save so it's gone. As is any save it touched. It was the grabvampire script doing it, which seemed to fire whenever any creature was near, even though I did not grab them. It started when I searched a vanilla, pre-placed startsasdead vampire at the Vigilants HQ. It re-animated, but did nothing. The script then fired twice per second forever after.
The author was such an arrogant denier, deleting any negative feedback from the comments section and being rude and arrogant on the Bethesda forum (where he cannot delete things), I resolved to never, ever again try any of his mods. Ever.
His answer was basically that every other mod is the problem, not his script. So, Frostfall, Wet and Cold, Truly Undead, SkyTEST and many other mods are causing his script to function as if it is badly written.
He may be able to fix it, but he has blown it with me. In 20 years of PC gaming and 23 months of playing Skyrim and downloading hundreds and hundreds of mods, Clean Up Your Corpses and it's author is my one and only, unique boycott.
Yea, I agree with Shadeybladey. Not all of us are little kids who know nothing. I went to that guy`s mod, but I wasn`t impressed by his attitude or reply when I tried to be helpful about some issues.(I know a bit about how mods work). Pretty much talks to everyone like he`s an idiot. Put me off. I like modders who can at least consider that something may not be quite right.
Thanks for the heads up Shadey! Was already a bit doubtful about CUYC since I'd rather have a simple mod nowadays than huge and complicated overhauls - I have too many mods already and the chance for conflicts gets just that much bigger. Your post here made up my mind. Risking conflicts is bad enough, but supporting an a**hole? NEVER! ;-)
Shadey knows whats up, I thought Clean Up Your Corpses guy was pretty rude towards others. This mod though, bury the dead, is great and simple as well as doesn't require all the DLC
Wow, I thought you all were 'over the top' with the author of CUYC ... and when I read the posts and his various answers, I went, " OMG! This guy is rude ... "
So I decided to not touch that mod ... I can totally understand that some users can be annoying, but that is just part of the ' deal ' with Mod Creation and putting them up ..... you deal with the individuals and not just treat all users the same. Which seems to be the case with the author of CUYC ....
So I've decided to put my vote here ... thanks for the heads up .....
Glad to have found this mod, I felt bad leaving so many "friends" just lying on the ground. A least now they get buried & named even if the tombstone doesn't cooperate in direction. Thanks for a "simple" yet immersive required mod.
(Going to try out Jax's re-namer soon) Edit- works as advertised! .
Yeah, I saw this on one of Gopher's Richard LP's and he mentioned seeing if the author would allow him to do some work on the mod. I guess that never happened for whatever reason. Too bad, it is a great idea for a mod.
Based on what I saw on the description, modders are currently free to pick this mod up and work on it, as it is currently 'abandoned' by the author until further notice. *shrug*
Just came back and saw this. I might pick it up after the enhanced version of Skyrim comes out. I'm working on a Fallout 4 mod now that should take up most of that time anyway.

LatinGames wrote: You can Use Jaxonz Renamer to write the Epitaph for the deceased
I have to agree with LatinGames. It's not a full customization of the epitaph, but Jaxonz Renamer will let you change the "Tombstone" text to something else more personalized. For example, I just found Meeko and his owner's body. There is no record of his name in the shack, but I know he's a Nord. So I moved his corpse to the front of the shack, buried him (using Jaxonz Positioner to align the tombstone correctly), and then used the Renamer to say "A Son of Skyrim". Add a few flowers and a candle from Lanterns and Candles, and you have yourself a memorial to remember!
I found a mod that allows modders to prompt the player for text. This could be used for the Epitaph customization. It's called KeyInput. Heres the link: https://www.nexusmods.com/skyrim/mods/56864

Any ideas why this mod isnt working, and how to fix this so it works?
