Okay for all wondering if this works with Dawnguard or Dragonborn the answer is: 'yes.'
I have NOT done any NPCs from those expansions though. What that means is that NPCs from those expansions are not in my lists. SO if Bethsada or a mod you are running does not put followers, towns folk, or whatever to be essential they can die. I am speaking about the actors from Dawnguard or Dragonborn.... and ONLY the ones they add. But the NPCs from the regular game will be fine when running this file.
So yes it will work 10000% fine with those DLCs or any mod that adds more NPCs or landscape, like Moonpath to Else-however-its-spelled... the kitty kingdom. Look, all this 'mod' does is tell your save game 'this dude can't die' and your game says 'kay.' So adding DLC, patches, mods, whatever is all safe. Because you have to manually run the batch file AFTER your game starts. Its literally 100% safe and not gonna mess things up so chill. Mostly everyone has all the DLC anyways. I do too and I can confirm is 100% fine to run with DLC. If you didn't follow all that don't worry... just means I'm rambeling and u don't care all that much.
Now... will I do the NPCs from those expansions? Yes. When? No idea. But not anytime in the near future. Maybe when I play the game again and get pissed off when Mrs. Huffenfluff dies.
---note to the derps wondering who Mrs. Huffenfluff is... just made the name up. But! if there actually is an NPC called that I'll eat 47 socks fried in flours and bacon juice for lunch tomorrow. Bet! Anyways, ya it'll work fine with those.
As easy and useful as ever. Going on my 4th replay with this goodie an' never fail to forget it 'cause the name makes me smile. Thanks Drowchyld777 your as godlike as my NPCs and a whole lot more entertaining.
Using for years this mod that I have longtime endorsed. I tweaked it a bit to fix small issues. And still asking myself why people continue to use "Run for your life" dragons/vampires alike mods, when the solution is right ahead quite simple.
I just used a text compare software and I found the following difference between my _ESS1.txt (my list of essential NPCs, that's what I call it, the other is _ESS0.txt) and your esssential.txt from 1.90MG release:
Ugh... that's a lot of work to check. I'll get to it sometime this week. Thanks for the report and I have a hunch most were left out for a reason. Also I've not done the DLC ones yet. One day when I play Skyrim again and do them for the first time I'll work on the dlc lists then. Since its so late I'll need to test it a lot and read up on everything but I don't wanna spoil the quests and stuff for myself before hand, ya know?
Again thanks for taking time to generate this and I'll work on combing through it this week.
Some NPCs lose their essential status after completing some quests, this is more obvious in Riften. So users of this mod are advised to rain again bat essential.txt if they have completed enough quests. No need to run it every time, if you run it 2 or 3 times after 100 hours of game play it will good forever.
That's correct. I am unsure if flagging an actor as essential in this condition before the criteria is met gives the triggered essential command priority or not.
An other discovery and surprise for me since this one I have seen her killed near me by a hostile mage while I was occupied by brawling Benor (since I plan to make him a Blade later): Setessential 000135EC 1;Idgrod the Younger was set non essential by USSEP
I can't run it. As far as I understand it nothing new has really been added or changed and its all based on the origial skyrim code. It just adds new graphics to the game. No new quests, NPCs or content. SO! this should work just fine. If someone could test it for me that'd be cool.
run the bat and try to kill people in Riverwood under tgm (god mode) and see if everyone won't die
Even compiled oldrym scripts works in Skyrim SE (despite I'm cautious to recompile them again). Batch commands should work "on the fly" in Skyrim SE (there is no difference) The only things that cause problems in SE are "meshes" and "bsa" packages
This "mod" is one of those rare gems, you can stumble over once in a lifetime. It annoyed me so much to loose important merchants to these idiotic vampire attacks. Then I had the idea with a batch file and before I sat down to begin this tedious task I happened to find THAT! Thank you sooooooo much for the work and time. Works without the slightest trouble and finally spares me the grief to crawl to the next (living) merchant with tons of loot. Easy to use and failproof. Endorsed!!!! Yours Hans
Super glad you found this and are finding it useful! Remember if you happen across someone you think needs to be flagged or vice versa please just post about it.
While I am not playing the game anymore [but I swear I will one day... and the other 80 I have on hold in my steam library] I'll happily continue supporting fixes and stuff if you guys discover them [and they are indeed things we missed]. Its has a LOT of updates because of players like you reporting them. All the players of the mod, the reporters, endorsers and commenters deserve a piece of every endorsement too. But I'll gladly hold onto it...
*holds up the endorsement like Link does with his first sword*
"I'm going to suggest you turn on my bats before you start that quest then go ahead and turn them back on again after that battle is over. The reason for this is because I am not sure if some of my flagged NPCs are in that battle. If they were they would never get killed. "
That's why I just installed Heart Breaker - A Killmove >:D
By the way, thanks a lot! w/ dawngurad everybody was dying with those damn vampire raids xD
Regarding the civil wars, I've played the Imperial's side through twice with the essential flags active, and didn't notice any weirdness. The particular batch I used is dated October 2013, however.
Well I am assuming by 'protected' you mean 'set to essential.' A protected status NPC is diff then essential and protected status cannot be achived via console commands. This project makes NPCs essential and Captain Aldis is in my files. I just checked.
Also included in the Essential.txt and Nonessential.txt
Maybe its a mod you are using? Try turning my bat off then back on or make a custom bat for that NPC only. That should force the changes over your mods.
Hey there! No I have not worked with this in a long time. There's no DLC peeps added and I have no idea what "cutting room floor" is so nope on that one.
Form what I understand there's not really many NPCs added from the DLC this little project would include... but I dunno. Never actually played any of Skyrim's DLCs besides Hearthfire.
Haha I see I see, cutting room floor is a mod that restores the cut content Bethesda had left out of the vanilla game http://www.nexusmods.com/skyrim/mods/47327/? Thanks for this awesome bat
Sorry I won't ever offer support of a mod. If I did I would get a hundred requests, upset replies if a mod updated and so on. I don't even have the game installed now so... sorry its not gonna happen. Although I basically explain how it all works in the documents so you could make one yourself for the mod you'd like to use.

All the above listed NPCs don't exist in your list.
Since I'm using SSE:
02xxxxxx correspond to Dawnguard.esm
I also note 99% of NPCS from Dragonborn.esm are protected (no need to add them).
Again thanks for taking time to generate this and I'll work on combing through it this week.
