Maybe an incompatibility with other mod, or a bug nobody reported yet. I will use this mod with"Immersive NPC in the dark", that way i could avoid what you said...if now some of them now carry light sources, then they can see me at close range!
How performance intensive is this mod? Want to make sneak a bit harder but I'm running on a complete potato so can only use mods that tweak settings or add new assets (plenty of HDD space but poor graphics card).
Yeah... i dont know man but my common sense tell me " not try to sneak with a big lantern on my hip.... Just saying.. this mod improve immersion and having a lantern .. its not.
maybe I wrong, but im pretty sure that i never saw a ninja with a big lantern on his hip.
Instead of Wearable Lanterns, try Dwemer Googles and Scouter (http://www.nexusmods.com/skyrim/mods/13133/?) instead. You will get largely the same effect you are looking for (being able to see at night) without triggering a detection event that gets you spotted every time.
This is one of my most favorite mods!! Thanks a bunch for taking the time to remake this for SSE!! If, by any chance, your looking to improve more on stealth gameplay I very highly recommend giving this mod a look as imo it is one of the most innovative detection mods for skyrim.
I'd encourage you to take a look at the forums for "Immersive detection of NPC by kkil001" before recommending it. There is a link there to Dangerous Mods Masterlist from Skyrim Mods Reddit. The author goes into considerable detail about the issues with the mod. I'll copy the text here for ease of reference:
Immersive Detection of NPCs (IDoN)
The author of this mod (IDoN) chose to go for gameplay function over technical performance, and while this approach can have benefits, (IDoN) suffers from poor scripting techniques that can bog down your game. The scripts run on an infinite looping cycle that does not come with a delay, meaning that takes up a lot of resources in the scripting engine. Due to the intensity of this mod it may be a notable contributor towards any stack dumps that may occur if it is running in other script heavy areas.
Dynamic Stealth is an unreleased beta of a mod by fadingsignal who has given me permission to have the download link here. It does the same thing as Immersive Detection of NPCs but it updates as you cross cells instead of constantly having a script running which makes it much more reliable and compatible and doesn't risk stalling your papyrus engine.
I am using a darker nights dungeons mod so with the exception of Khajit (cats have night vision) and Argonains (being reptiles sense body temperature) it would always s#*! me when human elves and orcs could find me so easily despite it being almost pitch black when they don't have any torches or lanterns.
in fallout 4 a having a darker nights mod alone make it just as hard for enemies to see me as it is for me to see them. I ma hoping to find a mod that does the same thing for Skyrim.
can this mod take altered light levels from other mods into account into account?
say if i light a fire where it is normally dark or put one out, shoot torches with water arrows, will it have any effect on an npc's ability to detect me?
What would happen in most games if you were standing 20 feet away from an enemy directly in his line of sight in a well lit area whilst holding a torch? Your ass would get detected way before you approached the above scenario but unfortunately Skyrim's AI is so severely myopic that they are completely oblivious to your presence. Well this tiny little mod goes a long way to fixing it.
This mod's best used with SkyTweak. Install it and then tweak stealth parameters in SkyTweak especially the ridiculously low AI search times. You want to take immersion a step further, you could also install Immersive NPC's in the dark to complement them. These three in tandem are a much better and safer alternative to Immersive detection of NPC's which is on the list of dangerous mods.
Since it tweaks core parameters of the game that still remain relevant to this day, the age of this mod is irrelevant.
One tiny issue though due to this mod not being updated in ages is that its Shadow Walker ability which is basically what gets you detected if you are flaunting a torch in the face of your enemy doesn't recognize the lanterns you use from Wearable Lanterns. Still a million times better than vanilla stealth but if someone could make a compatibility patch that would be brilliant.
