If you're interested in making a beam saber the transpancy is done through nifskope mostly (you add an "nialphaproperty" node and fiddle with the settings) and also through gimp, photoshop by editing the darnksess of the alpha layer on the diffuse map, the animating should be simple too but I haven't got round to working on anything like that yet so I can't be certain, if you look for "vicious dawnbreaker" mod on the nexus that weapon has a constant anim so maybe you could ask the creator for a tip or two on how to make it work.
