I have a question... I'm a sneak type user and I'm looking for a mod that dog can be quiet too.. Does this mod changes not only the sound of what player hears, but also the actual "effect" that hostile NPCs hear when I sneak around with dog by using this mod? or is it just changing what player hears, but not for the in-game effect of npc's hearing?
I would love this mod. But I can't get it to work. Downloaded, extracted and a new folder called sounds ( I didn't have a sounds folder before) appeared in my Steam Apps. Skyrim. Data. folders, but nothing happened with it and the dog has carried on barking. I picked the 1/4 volume one. Does anyone have any idea why it didn't work?
Got it sussed. Download the half or quarter volume files, jump onto any sound recording software ...record 20 or so seconds of silence and save the file as a .wav
Install the downloaded files and replace half or so of all the "idle" folder samples, using the 20 sec .wav for each, but renaming it accordingly with each file you are replacing.
It seems the game shuffles thru the samples at random, so this way part of the time it will be playing the idle sounds (whines, barks etc) and the rest it will be playing the 20 second silence clips.
This way you get a dog which still occasionally makes some sounds but is often silent as well. Much more realistic and less annoying!
Anyways, endorsed (after i wait an hour :-p ) for giving me the file and folder names! Thx :-)

The "Silent Dogs" file has the right structure, but the others do not. This is what you need to get the mod working:
... DataSoundfxnpcdog
In the bugged versions, the npc folder is missing from the structure.

@Sivos909: Bark folder seem to be the idle barks.
Added 2 reduced volume variants - half and quarter volume
Added all the other dog sounds to silent package
