    ISSUE SOLVED

Thanks to the wonderful xuxos, the solution to the dialogue freezing/dialogue not showing issue has been found. Again, you need subtitles to see dialogue, so this is for the problem as described in the posts below.

    To quote xuxos:

"I found out that this problem is related to the following ini setting in the skyrim.ini file

    bBackgroundLoadLipFiles=1

    turn this thing off

    bBackgroundLoadLipFiles=0

Probably lots of people reporting this issue, have this ini setting (which is often recommended) also."

Massive thank you to this guy for finding the cause!!!

Tested and confirmed, that ini setting that a few sites/forum posts recommend causes the problem.

I know it's been a while since I've been here, but I just completed a clean install of Skyrim and I came to remember this mod. So, My plan is to give this another try on a clean install, only alongside the official DLC and the unofficial patches... and SFO because I can't play without the fancy foliage. Point is, I'll report back if the problem still persists.

Okay... The mod is behaving very strangely for me. As I said, I performed a clean install; the only mods existing alongside this one are SFO and Alternate Start (I decided to use the latter since you already confirmed that it's compatible, and it allowed me to skip the long intro sequence). I installed the no perks version of the mod, started as a camper in the woods, and headed straight to Whiterun. And, to my great surprise, I was able to speak to the hunting lodge owner about the guild! (The dialogue subtitles appeared!)

So, just to experiment, I started another character (one I might actually play the game with, my other was a generic nord "test" character). Again, I went straight to Whiterun and spoke to the Drunken Huntsman owner, but the dialogue froze this time! Due to this happening, I decided to load an autosave of the other character (the one with which the dialogue worked) that was inside the Drunken Huntsman, just before I spoke to the owner. I spoke to him, and the dialogue froze! It was working with this same character just before... Does anyone have any idea as to why the mod would work one moment, and then stop working on the same save without me having changed anything (on a clean install)? I might experiment a bit more and report back if I discover anything.

I've had strange things happen in general due to the papyrus vm during runtime, and not just with my mod. Some script effects will break when loading a save in the middle of the game. Nothing specific, but I've seen issues when doing this between save games without actually restarting the game completely.

Maybe that was the case there, because you loaded a save that had the broken mod conflict, and switched between saves on the fly.

When I see that for some people the dialog starts working correctly if you unpack the BSA file it reminds me of the common problem that the gamebryo/creation engine has. Registering the BSA files in the first place and therefor not getting all the data included. Loose files get priority and don't have to be registered, perhaps this is the problems core and there is nothing that you can do about it, Daddy.
For some BSA files work flawless, others have to wrestle with them on a daily basis.

Just out of curiosity: Which Mod-manager are you guys using?
I strongly advice to use Mod Organizer. This Manager keeps your installation clean if you handle everything with it. There will be no files copied into your data folder, every plugin gets it's own folder and can cleanly be deinstalled (even when BSA files are extracted). NMM has some serious issues regarding uninstallation. I don't want to think about multiple mods that change the same texture for example, as NMM doesn't seem to keep track which change is actually installed and sometimes removes files that shouldn't be removed and vice versa.
Even better is the feature to be able to change the installation order and not only the load order.
For example: If I install a texture replacer like WATER and later another one, which overwrites textures changed by WATER which you want to keep, you have to reinstall WATER again, when using NMM. I simply drag WATER below the other texture mod in the installation section and have the correct textures again. Makes troubleshooting less painful.
Deactivating for testing purposes can be done by simply unchecking the mod in the installation section (Skyrim won't see any file of a deactivated installation) without having the need to really delete the mod itself.
You can use multiple profiles for different mod installations/chars with local savegames. So if you use profile X you only see savegames for this profile.
And it works flawless with Nexus, too. It even recognizes manually added downloads and handles them. Not to mention a small inbuild browser that is lightweight and has only the features it really needs. No annoying Java/flash crap.
Both .inis are handled internally, so having different inis for each profile is possible, too. No more overwriting of ini files when scanning the installation through steam either.

The only downside to really have all the advantages, you have to do a complete clean install and use MO for every mod installation later on. Otherwise you still have the cluttered and messy mod installation that is common for bethesda games. Since using MO I never had any issues regarding BSA files as MO handles the registration and it does it better than bethesda. At least it looks to me like that.

PS: I am not affiliated with the author of the tool and I'm sorry that I rambled about it so much, but it's really worth a try. If you are not okay with the 'advertisement' drop me a line and I'll edit the comment.
PPS: To all the people that use TESVEdit to 'clean' their mods of dirty edits. There are enough cases where cleaning mods breaks them. Before going on a 'dirty edit' killing spree, maybe shoot the mod author a line asking if he/she knows of the dirty edits and if those are intended. The same applies to savegame cleaner, as you never know how save they really clean. They can be a really helpful asset in maintaining your save, but it's also very easily possible that something gets totally messed up in the long run.

Hi, wasn't sure where to post this, I encountered a mod conflict between the Andromeda mod and Hunting in Skyrim. Crash happens during the first quest where you hunt the wolf near Riverwood. Disabling Andromeda, completing the quest and then only turning Andromeda on again solves this problem.

Thanks for all the hard work!

Thanks for letting me know. I move a few things around in that spot where the wolf is, maybe that mod deletes something I've moved. I look into it!

    1. Most recent Steam version, completely up to date. I have all official DLCs (Dawnguard, Hearthfire, Dragonborn). I'm also using all of the unofficial patches.

    2. English U.S.A.

    3. No

    4. Yes, Guard Dialogue Overhaul. (However, I have tried using your mod with and without this mod. In either case, the problem persists.)

    5. Yes, Alternate Start - Live Another Life. (Uses a BSA and BSL file. The silent dialogue in this mod works fine for me.)

    6. No

    7. No

    8. No.

    9. No. I've used a clean save (new character) every time I've used your mod. (My intention was to start a hunter character specifically for this mod.)

    10. This is currently what I'm using (minus your mod):

    5. Not sure, Alternate Start - Live Another Life has silent dialogue as does forgotten magic.  Though the problem existed for me before installing Forgotten Magic.
    6. I don't know.  There are lots of files in my scripts folder, how do I know if they are from this mod?  The sound folder is very neat and empty.

    PLEASE READ BEFORE COMMENTING

Please use this thread to discuss the issues you're having with dialogue in this mod. This is for the dialogue not showing, working, and freezing. The dialogue is silent in this mod, so you need to have subtitles enabled to see what's being said. This topic is for the issues with dialogue not showing even with subtitles enabled, and freezing your game etc.

As of today (29/05/13) no cause has been found. It is definitely a conflict with either another mod, or something else you have in your Skyrim folder.

Please see the post below detailing how you should report the issue.

If you're not willing to help or be constructive don't post at all.

    UPDATE 29/05/13 - PLEASE READ

The BSA compression and Unfuzzing of the dialogue files doesn't appear to have helped the issue. So lets figure out what your pc/game have that mine doesn't. When posting the details of the issue you're having, please also include all the following information:

    1. What version of the game are you running?
    2. What language of the game are you using and what region is your steam account in?
    3. Are you using a pirate copy of the game?
    4. Are you using any mods that affect dialogue?
    5. Are you using any mods that add silent audio files for mods that don't yet have voiced dialogue?
    6. Do you have any loose files in your Data folder for old versions of the mod? Specifically in your Sound/Voice and Scripts folders.
    7. Have you previously used another version of the mod and not followed the updating/installing/uninstalling instructions?
    8. Have you cleaned your mods and official DLC with TES5Edit?
    9. Have you previously ever uninstalled any mods in your current save file? (Uninstalling mods, specifically mods that have scripts, can break your save and/or leave junk behind)
    10. Please post your load order, and note if you have attempted to uninstall (temporarily) any mods you think could be causing the problem. And also post what you have done to try and find the cause yourself.

Please answer all of the above questions. Get involved with other users, find common denominators, reply to posts to help find the cause of this problem.

    Let's get this mystery solved!

Hi,  I like the concept and think this would be a fun mod but I am experiencing the same dialogue freeze problem.  I compared my load order (posted below) to the other one posted and the mods you said were ok and there are some we have in common that are not cleared.  I tried deactivating the following mods, one at a time and initiating the dialogue on my current game and none had any impact.  I also deactivated everything except the hunting (no perks)  mod and that did not help either.  eactivated modes: Achievethat.esp, Acquisitive soul gems.esp, chesko_frostfall.esp, convenient horses.esp, deadlydragons.esp, skyre_ (all), skytest-realisticanimals&predators.esp, realisticneedsanddiseases.esp.

A user has mentioned that when they unpacked the BSA file the mod worked fine. It is a bad idea unpacking the BSA, but what I'm trying to do is see whether the maximum compression setting I use doesn't work well on some setups. Like always with this I'm guessing lol. But I'm thinking it may be something to do with the hardware, if what the user who reported it working when unpacked was correct.

I've uploaded version 2 of the test bsa file. This one has the audio files as XWM and LIP, and compression set at level 5 instead of 10 in BSA Opt. The difference in file size is only a couple of mb.

Download it and let me know how it goes.

I loaded the new BSA and started a new character (just to make sure no problems were left behind from the old BSA), went straight to the Drunken Huntsman, talked to the owner about the guild, and... the dialogue froze. No fix.

Ok mate thanks for testing it and letting me know. I wont be doing anything different with the bsa file now. I'll see if there's anything else i can try over the coming weeks.
