For anyone looking to port this to Skyrim Special Edition using Nexus Mod Manager, here are the steps.

Just a heads up, I AM NOT an expert so if there is a step that I don't need, or have left out, let me know.

I have also tested this FULLY and it 100% works.

    1. First off, you will need to download winrar (It might work with other programs like 7zip but this tutorial is for winrar)
    2. You will need to download Skyrim Special Edition NIF Optimizer.
    3. You will need SSE Creation Kit (I will not tell you how to download this, there are plenty of other tutorials)
    4. First, Download the loose files for the latest version (Alternatively, you could download the BSA file and unpack it manually, but it will make this tutorial easier if you download the loose files)
5.Extract the Winrar files to your desktop.
    6. Start up NIF Optimizer and click the "Browse" option.
    7. From there, find the file (folder) you just extracted and click "Select Folder"
    8. After this is done, click optimize. Wait for this to finish (You will know it is done when when the bottom right corner says "Saving...Done!" )
    9. Exit NIF Optimizer as you will not longer need it
    10. Create a "Winrar ZIP Archive" folder and call it "Build Your Own Home SSE.rar" (The .rar is important"
    11. Open the Loose files folder and "Copy" the "buildablehome.esp" file.
    12. Navigate to your Skyrim Special Edition Data folder and paste the "buildablehome.esp" file into it.
    13. Open Skyrim Special Editon Creation Kit and wait for it load.
    14. Click "File" in the top right corner and click data.
    15. Find "buildablehome.esp" and double click it so the box to left has a little black cross. Activate the file by clicking "Set File As Active' button.
    16. After this, click OK. Wait for it to load and it might take a few minutes. A few warnings will pop up, just click "Yes To All" for all of them.
    17. After it's finished loading, a little warning box will pop-up. Click "Clear" and get rid of the little box.
    18. After this click "File" then save. Another little warning box will pop-up again. Once again, click "Clear" and exit the box. Exit Creation Kit you won't be using it anymore.
    19. Navigate back to Skyrim Special Edition data folder and find the "buildablehome.esp" file.
    20. Click cut and paste it back the the loose files folder. Overwrite the Esp file.
    21. Copy all the files from the Loose Files folder and place them into "Build Your Own Home SSE.rar" folder.
    22. Open Nexus Mod Manager and Click "Add Mod From File"
    23. Find "Build Your Own Home SSE.rar" and click "Open".
    24. Your basically done, all you need to do is activate the file. Just click the "Build Your Own Home SSE" file (Which will be under "Unassigned" category) and click the green tick in the top left corner.
    25. Extra step for OCD people like me, to move to file to a different category, right click the file and go down to "Move to". You can put it under what ever category you want but I put it under "Player Homes"

That is it! I hope this guide helped you! Happy Hunting!

      First thanks for your tutorial.

Second I encountered a glitch when using this mod(see this link http://puu.sh/xJvXj/4d591a9fe4.jpg). I know that this happens when the mod is active. Do you know how to fix this glitch and did you also encounter this glitch?

In advanced thnx for your help

The missing part of the river behind the wood hut needs to be fixed in SSEEdit.
If you're somewhat familiar with the tool the steps are as follows:

Open SSEEdit with Skyrim.esm, Update.esm, and this mod (buildablehouse.esp) as the selected files.

Open the "Worldspace" section of buildablehouse.esp, and the sub-sections here. You'll see there's some red cells - conflicts.
Specifically, this mod's esp still has the "old" water records, not the updated water records from Update.esm.

First, you will need to add Update.esm as a master to this mod (right-click on the mod name in the left-side pane -> Add Master).

Next, edit the "XCWT - Water" cells from this mod so they match Update.esm (copy and paste them over). I think there were 4-5 entries in total. They will turn green if it matches. There was also a "Water Height" entry that didn't match either - it was at "default", instead of the value listed for Update.esm. I changed that too, don't know if that was necessary or not though.

Close the tool and save the edited esp (just buildablehouse.esp - if you accidentally made any changes to Update.esm or Skyrim.esm, don't save those of course!)

That seems to have worked for me! If anyone with more SSEEdit experience than I notices any errors in the above, please let me know!

I know your issue was already solved. But I also wanted you guys to know an easy fix can also be if you have the mod Aevon Tor by Boric123, and load it after BYOH, it fixes the water issue without going to xEdit. Fixing the mod in xEdit is a great solution though, wish I thought of that lol :)

Would these instructions be able to turn most if not all oldrim mods to SSE, or are they just for this specific mod?

Yes, defintely DarknessEagleX. But, there would be a few different steps depending on what mod you're trying to portl

Someone NEEDS to port this! I grabbed the mod a few years back and I fell in absolute LOVE with it; My only problem is I only play SE now, and someone STILL hasn't ported it to newrim and I have no technical skill (or patience) whatsoever to port it myself.

A full year has passed, still no port ;(

I never used anything else than NMM throughout my modding foray but I'm willing to try LOL267's guide.

      EDIT:
Well this was interesting, I seem to have made it. There were a few bumps along the way such as fiddling with WinRAR and figuring out how to download the creation kit. Turns out the Skyrim SE Creation Kit is called Creation Kit: Skyrim (they just swapped the words around...) which you can only download by creating a Bethesda account, downloading their Bugtesta.net Launcher and installing it from there.

Next I ran into an issue at step 22. I got a NMM error: Build Your Own Home SSE.rar can't be added -> Incomplete. I fiddled a bit with that and eventually just added the mod as a 7z archive and it worked (I never use WinRAR so maybe I did something wrong there).

Fired up the game and as expected I ran into the same issue as DarknessEagleX. I followed JazzKiwifruit steps after wathcing one or two videos on SSEEdit and managed to sort that out too. Literally takes seconds once you know what you're doing.

Tested it for about 30 minutes and everything works great. Will post here should I run into any issues.

Thanks guys, I added a few levels to my modding skill tree today. Hope this helps someone else.

JazzKiwifruit, thank you for the steps to use SSEEdit to fix the missing water issue for SSE.  I have never used xEdit, but your description was so well written, I had no problems and got it right the first time!

I'm not sure if its necessary to convert it.

I downloaded the loose file version and installed it in SSEE, works fine.
The only problem I noticed up to now is that part of the river is just gone at the top of the mountain.

Though you can just fix that with SSEEdit.

If anyone is curious if this works in anniversary: I tried it out, seemingly, you don't even need to convert it. Was working for me just fine, downloaded the Loose Version.

You can't build an armory, a kitchen, a child's room, or a storage room, and the house is very small compared to the Hearthfire houses. Also, the lag from when you stop using the workbench to build something was annoying.

This house is smaller than Hearthfire houses because the mod predates Hearthfire.

    Hey,

This mod looks great, I managed to find the workbench (that took me some time!) and build the foundations and the home itself.
But from then on nothing works, whatever I try to build and no matter how much stuff and put in the barrel I keep getting the message "It seems I do not have enough materials to do this yet… I should be sure to check out Lucky's plans for the home, I'll find what I need there."

For the record I get the same result whatever kind of deer hide I put in the barrel (when relevant) and when I try to build something that doesn't even need any deer hide (like the fireplace).

    I'm a bit bummed out :(

    Cheers

Don't put the materials in the barrel: that's just for storage. You have to have them on your person.

I got the Oldrim version working on SSE without having to convert it and everything shows up and even the "woodland home" shows up on the world map right across the river from the "Abandoned Prison". So no conversion needed to use for SSE. All you have to do is choose which game you want it installed on, at least it did with Vortex, not sure if it does that with MO2 or NMM though.

My game keeps crashing and im seeing reports that start with something that looks like "Error: Property BYOHRelationshipAdoption_Child1" or "Error: Property BYOHRelationshipAdoptionQuest" or "Error: Property BYOHRelationshipAdoption_CurrentHomeHouse". Am I correct to assume the BYOH is referring to this mod? if so that's a problem because I do not have this mod installed nor have I ever heard of it before searching for the cause of this crash. I also don't have any other mods that are related to adoptions other than the actual DLC

nope, that's hearthfire that you're having issues with; given that you don't have this mod and had never heard of it before, there is no possible way it could be this mod giving you errors.
