it could be much better, the model looks to be too low poly for FF7, With a bit of refinement it could look great, but as is, i'll list a few things that can be improved.
1. The size, it should be around 1.5 times the current size to be accurate
2. the detail level, the model in FF7 had more poly's(in the hilt) and a somewhat(very slightly) higher quality hilt design.
3. the size/color of some of the parts is a bit off, look at http://images4.wikia.nocookie.net/__cb20120402225416/finalfantasy/images/a/a6/UltimaWeapon-ffvii-cloud.png to see for yourself what i mean.
@lancegeis, Yeah, I had a little trouble getting the guard size right because there weren't that many great reference pictures. I'm scrapping this hilt completely and making a new one. So stand by for updates! I need to figure out how I'm going to texture it better.
Thanks again for all the crits guys! I'll update this when it's ready!
The good Idea. The Original One! Omg ! Not a modified 3d model ! something fresh and Low poly! with bad textures! <3 15 years ago?... WUT seriously? ...
A high poly ultima weapon... ... it would be like...
...It look like TETRIS! But Hats. (reference : http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5TwrjtUIcr8 ) atafa!
I still have FF7 on my computer. ( and it still playable! ), Your 3d model is close enough but the red "spikes" on the guard should be Largers, and the overall guard is bulkier ;o
Anyway ! It doesnt match Skyrim .. But Hell yeah thank you !
I use Cinema 4D. I love how simple it is to create stuff in it!
@Tair, Thanks man, that's actually what I was aiming for, closest thing to FF7. Hilt was 2D from the videos I've seen, so I made it 2D, but I suppose that made it suffer. I even copied the low poly style...hehe
@dunatypon, yes that's on one of my todo lists, the original gunblade and the lionheart but the amount of detail and work that has to go into the gun frightened my newbself away so it's at the bottom of my to-do list.
@Foxd1e, I will update this with a better hilt, perhaps it will give the sword some more character as I can see most of you guys saying it's too plain/flat. Hopefully it'll give it more "umph". I'll see what I can do with the textures too.

Update - I can basically start Low Poly for collision testing, but then move up to high-poly afterwards when the basic form works.

It looks good now, just could be better.
