So I've recently been doing another playthrough, and of course I originally made this mod for myself so it's in my current load order, and when I was hanging out in Proudspire Manor I noticed it wasn't working. Decided to load my entire load order in XEdit to see what all mods were overriding this mod. Surprisingly, a LOT of mods affect player homes and will therefore override the simple change this mod makes. Seriously, ANY MOD that touches player homes in ANY way will bring the original music with it, and thus negate this mod. LOOT tends to sort this plugin fairly high up in the load order, so I'm currently working on trying to figure out how to flag this mod so that LOOT and/or Wrye Bash will automatically put it AFTER any other mods that touch the player homes. When I get that figured out, I'll reupload and also include an optional plugin that doesn't change Jorrvaskr (as that was requested some time ago and I don't think I ever got around to it). In the meantime, I will reiterate what I said in the description - in order for this mod to work as intended, it must be very low in your load order.
The individual Hearthfire & Dragonborn plugins are missing the MUSPlayerHome record & don't reference the record from the main plugin, so the subrecords in the cells they change can't be resolved. The Legendary plugin doesn't have this issue.
Crazy to think these files have been up for 7ish years, and no one (not even me) ever noticed that. I think I know what happened. Working on a fix now. Thanks for the head's up.
It is possible, and since I am currently on a bit of a hiatus from modding I might be willing to entertain some requests. Either post a link here to the mod you'd like my treatment done to, or message me, and I'll see what I can do. I must enter a caveat, though - if the player home mod is ever updated and you install the update, my changes will be lost and will have to be redone. I may just post a tutorial on how to use my mod with custom player homes.
would it be possible to do this for custom player homes?? Or give instructions on how to change the ambient music files for the custom homes to use the tavern music, like you did for the vanilla homes??
That's exactly what I asked too, I'm glad I'm not the only one who wants a custom music for his custom home. lol so far I haven't managed to do anything...

This only works for me in the basement of Heljarchen, but not in the main part of the house. I've got in pretty low on the list, but I do have a few other mods like Chezrie's kitchen and a mod for a bath, plus Hearthfire extended. Not sure why/ if they would conflict though. Should I try using the older version?
I had the same issue with a similar mod - might even be the same mod. I've also noticed that if you load a save inside one of the homes, the music won't play unless you let the cell reset.
hmm.. havent heard any tavern music yet and ive just bought breezehome. I also have your malukah dragonborn comes music replacer for taverns and i was hoping to hear that in breezehome. Do i need to decorate it first or reload or something? ^^
Try placing it lower in your load order. Though based on the date of your comment, it could just be that the old version doesn't work for you for some reason. Try the newer version.
Can you please please create a mod for the hearthfire homes? It's stupid that whenever I hire a bard, I also hear the regular game music playing instead.
Would you extend this mod, so that the tavern music will be also played in the "FC Kagrenacs Instant Fortress" (which is an awesome player home)? http://skyrim.nexusmods.com/mods/17835
Pleeease! I would do it myself if I knew how. Would be really great!
Could you make a version where it simply plays The Dragonborn Comes in player homes (not the tavern music) ? I would like to listen to The Dragonborn Comes only in player houses, not in taverns where I find it somehow distractive when you're trying to have a conversation whith NPCs or read a book.
