ATTENTION! This guide is extremely outdated! Some things may still apply (like the texture section) but all software since this guide's release has been updated A LOT (especially Nifskope)! USE AT YOUR OWN RISK!
When I imported my weapon.obj and blood.obj in their NiTriShapes both of the LightingShaderProperty lines didn't change. I can't edit the properties values but I can changes the BS Properties except they have the right values. The same goes for the Num UV Sets, I can't edit them either. Also, when I click Spells, Batch, Update All Tangent Spaces it says "need vertices, normals, texture coordinates and faces to calculate tangents and bitangents" twice. If it's important info, I made the mesh in Blender, painted the textures in Krita, and create all dds files in GIMP. Oh and I don't have a scabbard cause I'm not sure how to make one for my weapon yet.
Decided to start the process over. I went back and realized I screwed a few things up. The sword appeared in game, but it was all black and it was equipped at my waist even though it's a two-handed weapon. I'm now using GIMP to make the textures since it makes things easier.
Update: I had been using a one-handed nif file for my two-handed word. I fixed that but I still have the same issues in Nifskope. Can anyone help me?
I finally got my sword working. The only thing this guide helped me with is the Creation Kit. The nifskope section is useless (probably because the nifskope in tutorial was outdated). I also don't have 3dsmax, maya, photoshop, mudbox, or any of those paid modeling and painting tools. This tutorial by BlazeLeeDragon: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MwJDy5rNTmo&t helped me with the blender modeling process (except for uv unwrapping, which I can help with), going form blender to nifskope, and the nifskope process. I use blender for modeling and GIMP for texturing. I highly recommend getting both of these. Both are free. If you are using blender or gimp or need help with Nifskope, I can do my best to help you. tl:dr I don't recommend this guide (especially for blender users), use this link: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MwJDy5rNTmo&t
Can anyone please help me with the Texturing part? I cant download Mudbox because I : dont have money for it, dont have PC space for it And even worse i cant figure out how to even put the thing into gimp and photoshop needs the 3D plugin which you can get only by buying it. And I tried to download ZBrush but there are no cracks or anything that worked...
very, very helpfull, my friend... this is perhaps the best tutorial i've ever seen regarding 3D modeling and mod making.
if i might ask, about how long does it take to do something at the level of "WEAPON"? a few days? does makigng more intricate weapons require more than just extra time, texture detail and specularity settings, or if, say, i want a blade with a hollow center that bifurcates at the hilt having two paralell blades require other techniques not shown here?
