After playing with this for a few days I'd like to mention that on the loading screens when they display various objects, the coins in the constructs show the replaced texture. Don't know how important that may be, but it's an interesting fact to know and tell.
If only it was possible to have multiple coin textures-- Awesome face, LOL face, Nuka Cola caps, subway tokens, Mario coins, Legend of Zelda rupees, My Little Pony Cutie Mark images... immersion is all well and good but those of us who don't care shouldn't have to be bound by that. ^_^
Version 2 is now released with a "realistic" look.
Also, I uploaded a "Double Pack" that includes the original and realistic versions. If the shading for the original does not look right, place the "Coin01_n.dds" from the realistic pack in your data folder instead of the one from the original pack. I haven't tested it, but it should work.
One day ..... one day ..... we get a full overhole from skyrim with Ragefaces,lol and awesomefaces and lioncats and pikachu armor and .... omg I want this s#*! !!!!!!
You/someone should create a "realistic" awesome gold mod! Take the original coin colour, and add the awesome face in line with the original style. Sort of subtle awesomeness.
