This mod helped me once, but the problem is that from the old gamesave it also carries over other game data such as Papyrus values and whatnot into the other gamesave, which would later caused CTD problems for me during my second playthrough.

Instead, I used the new Racemenu replacer ( http://skyrim.nexusmods.com/mods/29624 ), which allowed me to safely "save" my existing face values to the Windows Clipboard (and thence to a text file for archiving), load up the gamesave for the new playthrough, and "load" the values from the Clipboard into the character through this Racemenu.

How do you do that with Racemenu replacer? I'd really like to know, as I didn't know this.

Ok, found the preset button. Still, this program kept my face settings saved. I just transferred to a junk save, hit f5 to save the preset, then loaded up a new save game and hit the f9 to transfer.

When did you get the CTD's? I haven't had any until Dragonborn, and then it's random and often.

Hey thanks for the racemenu replacer trick. I first tried the face transfer mod and my character ended up with an invisible head, except for floating eyebrows and teeth. Creepy. Racemenu replacer worked though (but not on the invisible face save, I had to go back to a save when I still had a head).

I did as you describe. But in the clipboard were FAAAR less variables than you actually set in RM. I mean in the clipboard I had like 24 numbers separated by comma only... maybe I'm doing something wrong...? Thank you

That's odd, I'm pretty sure SFT only touches the player's data, and more specifically only facial data. Papyrus stuff shouldn't be touched by it. Although, this mod is pretty old (and not very well-coded) so I can't be sure. I'd really appreciate if you could elaborate on why you think/how you know papyrus or other irrelevant data are copied.

Seeing how this is still used and I never released a version with mod support, I'm in the middle of rewriting the whole thing. Hopefully this time the next version won't take two more years :>

Sorry for replying for a long time of not visiting, but currently both the latest versions of Racemenu and ECE have different ways of saving face data, as well as allowing to generate facial data for creating followers.

If I remember correctly, before Papyrus Data Transfer came into being, the old gamesave was back when I hadn't used USKP but got the early version of ECE installed with Racemenu -- I liked my character's facial edit that I used your tool to copy the data over to the new one, but for some odd reason I began to experience CTDs (and I wasn't even using bigger resolution textures back then)... dunno, but somehow dirty data got in what was otherwise a vanilla gamesave (which was level 1 at Riverwood, with no other mods added, the very first six I made after installing Skyrim; these I since then used for other playthroughs).

Later I learned that the game engine will permanently "bake in" the data, including Papyrus data, into a packed seemingly complicated morass that later took something like PDT and an earlier utility to dissect and try to clean the gamesave.

I think that since the source code for the gamesave cleaner (I forgot its name, but was coded by a Japanese guy) is out for free inspection, I suppose that you can study the code so that extracting the facial data doesn't inadvertently include anything else.

Well, that still doesn't explain why you insist that SFT copies Papyrus values and other unrelated things. I'm looking at my code (as anyone can, it's open source) and unless it messes up an offset somewhere and carries over a lot of junk (which should probably render the whole save file unusable at that point) I just don't see how it could copy anything unrelated. The code only copies a small, specific part of the player's changeform record as seen here (http://uesp.net/wiki/Tes5Mod:Save_File_Format#Change_Form ).

So in essence, do you have any proof that SFT actually copies a bunch of junk as well? I'm not saying it's bugfree, but find it hard to believe that SFT would copy Papyrus stuff. I'm fairly sure SFT would blow up pretty quick if Papyrus data somehow managed to worm its way into the player's changeform record.

Also, I wrote SFT from scratch using UESP's data on the save file format so I'm not sure what ECE or Racemenu has anything to do with this.

(I'm sorry if I sound angry or anything, that's not my intention. I just want to get to the bottom of this and find out why SFT is broken for some people.)

All I know is I used it to basically restart a character because it was the first one I ever had: I wanted to try the sneak archer character with all of the fixes and such but loved the face too much not to try this mod.

After using it and only on this character, only this character is seeing elevated leveled lists: I just hit level 20 and I am randomly seeing Elder Frost dragons (lvl 36) and bandit groups with 2 or more Bandit Marauders (lvl 25), Mages (lvl 27) and Wizards (lvl 36) in the random leveled lists on standard Adapt difficulty level I have always used. Again, a completely different character that is level 32 that did not use this mod (but uses identical mods) has not seen Elder dragons or Wizards yet.

I have no difficulty changing mods, leveled lists changing mods, etc.

I have no need for higher difficulty settings because I can be one shot sneak shooting enemies with a bow, move around a corner and find three NPCs 8-20 levels higher than me.

Anecdotal evidence in a way... but I have no other explanation.

NO. At this time only the physical basic sliders of your character. I "moved my face" by creating a new female Bosmer at Helgen, saving that game, then using the program to move the face from an existing female Bosmer... Viola! Now I get to replay that old character again.
I suggest doing the same: moving from one sex and race to the identical sex and race.

How do you make it start?

I downloaded python and clicked the exe of the face-change-programm, but all that popped up, was a black window...

Python is actually the language the program is in. I downloaded Python Portable v 2.7.4, installed it in my Downloads folder (it never shows up in Windows Programs: it can be deleted) and opened SkyrimFaceTransfer.pyw with the program PyScripter-Portable.exe. Then I used CTRL F9 to run the programming language on screen from SkyrimFaceTransfer.pyw. This pops up the box you see in the pictures here.
I grabbed this program because I wanted to re-lay a character from the original pre-DLCs and official (and unofficial) patches that had a very unique face: it had been morphed because of gaining the original Dawnguard vampire face and then being cured of it. It actually worked and gave me the exact face that probably could never be made even with advanced sliders mods.
      Good luck.

Is it possible to make it compatible with SSE? As transferring faces from vanilla to SSE by creating a preset in Construction Set makes achievements disabled and marks saves as modded... this method is the only hope of a clean transfer!

Very useful! Still works as of 2015. I would like to see support for the RaceMenu sliders though, it's gotta be said.
    But regardless, much appreciated
