Thanks for this, endorsed! This is a great guide when combined with STEP and Wrye Bash for mixing texture packs. I hope you will keep this updated if additional texture packs appear
Nice work, must have taken quite some time so make these. Will be back to endorse, I know it's not actually a file that mods the game, but it's the only way I can show my support for the effort you put into this.
I'm going to do the MIX_2048 benchmark after using this. The description will be updated silently with the change, so keep an eye out over the coming days. Edit: Extracted all mods and ran the SMCO and it only optimized 18 dds files. IDK if its even worth benchmarking. Not saying its not worth using SMCO, just me running another benchmark.
Sure you can spread the word. I hope to keep it updated with mod version changes, though that's part of the reason I changed this file names title. I don't want to false advertise anything.
The original upload was "HD DLC vs SMIM vs Skyrim HD 2K vs Realistic Overhaul" which was found by searching any of those mods. Don't want to over-commit myself. I could have just renamed the file, but I had messed with version numbers. This has gone through a lot of changes and wanted those that had seen it previously another chance to have a look before dismissing it.
A simply fantastic job. This is exactly what people need to help make proper choices about their game visuals. If you don't mind, I'll be spreading word of this via Reddit.
You're right about the HD DLC. I think because of the .esp issue some people were down on it, and I think others may assume that even though its higher res, it's still going to be of a lesser caliber somehow. The truth is, though, particularly with the low to mid level armors, it has excellent renders. I have a compilation I just finished of all the major texture packs and the HD DLC, and I still found myself using roughly 40% of the DLC mixed with the others.

vanilla hd is still the best. (lol)
there is almost no diffrence between 1k and 2k except for closeups.

This utility might help you out if you are low on vRAM. I use it for texture compression and can't tell any difference in quality.
I'm not sure I'd try the nif compression yet. The texture compression I've been using for a while though and it seems fine.
