Wrong! I love japanese style swords but your intepretation of the shinobi sword is wrong. The Ninjato was not curved. It did not have a long handle either as it would be difficult to carry around a long handle sticking out your back. so, the handle was one-handed, and the blade was straight and ended with a ridge, it wasn't made for stabbing
There probably wasn't a proper "ninja sword" to speak of. If there was, most experts agree it wouldn't be much different form a regular Japanese sword. Traditional Japanese swords actually curve naturally due to how they are hardened, so making a straight one would actually be trickier than making a normal one. The theory goes that a shinobi would have picked a shorter blade for various reasons, and sometimes disguise it as a full lenght katana (hence the long hilts). But if you needed a sword that didn't get in the way, a regular kodachi or wakizashi would have worked just fine. Especially since the short sword was the commoner's weapon and already had dedicated fighting styles, so it wouldn't have attracted much attention. But the very distinct-looking straight bladed chokuto-style ninjato doesn't make sense if you think about it - the shinobi were spies and assassins, so carrying such a recognizable weapon probably wasn't a good idea.
(For the same reason, there wouldn't have been a "ninja uniform", because that would have been like wearing a sign saying: "I'm an enemy agent, kill me." A real ninja would have been dressed like a garderner or the guy in charge of cleaning the latrines - someone you don't pay attention to. He also wouldn't have gotten into a lot of swordfights unless he seriously sucked at his job.)
Put like this, I've chatted with people who've spent their whole lives researching Japanese swords and non of them have ever actually seen a real antique ninjato. That's a pretty good indication they didn't exist, or you'd think at least a few would have surived.
You are 100% correct. A slight disagreement on the uniform. They didn't really have a uniform, but would, if the mission required it, soak rough tunics and linen in ash paste, which is probably where they came up with the black outfits. Not much was known about their history with the exception of when they were pretty much wiped out when they were betrayed by a rival group (which were slaughtered, as well).
With that said, the ninjato is a pretty cool looking sword and I own one that was made from a suspension spring from a 1973 Chevy truck. It took three months to straighten it out because I didn't want it to lose its temper and another month of grinding and polishing. It was only the blade for longest time until I finally found a Tsuba and Tsuka that worked. It's not very practical, as far as swords go. Not meant for going blade to blade, but it will slice up zombies, should the need arise. It's functional, sharp as hell, but mostly decorative.
Great swords, both in the aesthetic & real blade philosophy point of view. Simple and beautiful Tsuka, long Tsuba with short wakizashi-blade and a long katana typical Saya. That is the way of the ninja! And the ninja room is just pefect! Blessings on you... P.S. Just for info: the 1h can be improved on the grindstone, but the 2 hand can not be ( "only" 75 like I got it and that´s it).... So, if maybe one day you could fix that...
